Era of Magic and Martial Arts

Chapter 125: Reincarnation?

Zone 9, Jade Garden, Villa C2.

A crystal chandelier hung from the high ceiling, sparkling like the stars, illuminating every corner of the room.

The special agent, dressed in comfortable pajamas, sat leisurely on the spacious sofa.

He gently swirled a wine glass in his hand, the red liquid within glimmering alluringly under the light, hard to distinguish whether it was the richness of wine or the depth of blood.

The special agent's gaze was as cold as ice, staring at Li Shang with a contemptuous sneer at the corner of his mouth, his tone revealing an undisguised indifference.

"I don't care what the Arresting Bureau did," he said blandly, "since I handed this case over to you, just tell me, can you still find [Mask]?"

Failing to pass the buck, Li Shang met the special agent's icy gaze, a chill running through his heart.

Reluctantly nodding repeatedly, Li Shang, with a hint of urgency and certainty, replied: "After thorough investigation and analysis, we can basically conclude that [Mask] is hiding in the Eighth Academy."

The special agent slightly raised his chin, letting out a low, meaningful "hmm" from his nasal cavity.

Li Shang cautiously added: "But there are too many suspicious targets, and [Mask] is really cunning, so I still need time."

The special agent lightly pushed up the glasses on his nose, then elegantly sipped from his wine glass, the crimson liquid leaving a bizarre mark at his lip corner.

He coldly stared at Li Shang until a shiver crept down the latter's spine, then suddenly chuckled: "How many people?"

Li Shang was stunned: "What?"

Special Agent: "I'm asking how many suspicious targets are there?"

Li Shang hurriedly replied: "There are 50 identified suspect targets, 46 students and 4 staff members."

A hint of surprise flashed in the special agent's eyes; he had expected a much larger number, but it turned out to be merely 50 people.

With the list narrowed down to 50 people, what's there to hesitate about?

This ability to close the case is quite lacking!

The special agent narrowed his eyes slightly, asking: "Is it difficult to investigate 50 people?"

Li Shang, bracing himself, replied: "[Mask] is extremely cunning and well-disguised. Our surveillance teams have found nothing unusual, so..."

The special agent impatiently waved his hand, interrupting Li Shang's explanation, with a mocking smile on his lips: "Surveillance? Is this the way Lower City Patrol Office handles cases?"

Li Shang couldn't figure out where he went wrong and nervously asked: "Please enlighten me, Special Agent."

The special agent scrutinized Li Shang with sharp eyes, and after a few seconds of silence, he abruptly changed the topic, asking meaningfully: "The operation against [Destiny] that night, you didn't participate?"

Li Shang quickly replied: "Yes, I stayed back at the office that day, leading the team to crack a major case."

The special agent's brows slightly furrowed, revealing a hint of impatience, deciding to give his seemingly clueless subordinate a subtle hint: "I suggest you go back and ask those colleagues who participated in the operation that day."

A flash of shock crossed Li Shang's face, then a chill surged through his body like an electric current as if he realized the deeper meaning behind the special agent's words.

Nervously swallowing, with a somewhat hoarse voice, he said: "In the siege of [Destiny], we indeed sealed off the entire neighborhood, but this time it's impossible to seal off the school, right."

The special agent inwardly cursed Li Shang's stupidity in frustration, lacking the patience to continue explaining the obvious.

His voice turned cold and hard, slowly extending five fingers, speaking firmly: "Five days, I give you five days. I don't care what methods you use, I just need [Mask], do you understand?"

Li Shang's lips parted slightly, seemingly wanting to argue or plead something, but the special agent had already raised the wine glass and downed it in one go, then gently closed his eyes.

Li Shang decisively shut his mouth, turned, and left swiftly.

The special agent slowly opened his eyes, watching Li Shang's rather embarrassed back, with a hint of unnoticeable ferocity flashing in his deep gaze.

He slightly lowered his head, a cold smile curling his lip, murmuring to himself, deep and chilling: "Hesitant as you are, this knife isn't sharp enough, I need a more handy knife."

The best way, of course, would be to directly draw elite manpower from the family to assist, but such a move would be too noticeable, contrary to the special agent's interests.

He sighed lightly, then took out his phone, skillfully pressing a string of numbers, saying: "Is the merchandise I ordered ready?"

A response came from the other end of the line.

The special agent frowned and replied: "Don't mention any illegal rubbish, I'm aware you can clear customs legally. I can pay more, yes, I have only one demand: be quick."

After hanging up, the special agent gently raised the empty wine glass, the transparent glass refracting the cold light in his eyes under the light.

A face suddenly emerged in his mind, thinking: "If it's this person, he should quickly grasp my intentions and unquestioningly take action against these students to find [Mask] swiftly for me."

Cyan Wolf Gang, Blood Rose Bar.

Chang Erbing was secretly conversing with Ma Bin.

Ma Bin's expression was extremely peculiar, and the list marked with 50 names in his hand gave him a bizarre sense of déjà vu.

He pretended to borrow a light to conceal the shock in his eyes, almost blurting out: "Is this another secret delivery task? Are we actually part of that hidden 'big family'?"

But he ultimately held back.

Chang Erbing looked at the silent Ma Bin with puzzled eyes and asked: "What's wrong, is there something amiss with the list?"

Ma Bin took a drag from his cigarette, exhaling a long smoke ring, pondering for a while before asking: "No, the list is fine, I just want to confirm, we only need to track and monitor, right?"

Chang Erbing nodded, confirming: "Yes, Captain Li doesn't trust the Arresting Bureau much, so... the people you send need to be sharp, don't mess things up."

Unconvinced, Ma Bin asked again: "Just tracking and monitoring, we don't need to bring them back?"

Chang Erbing glared at Ma Bin, speaking sternly: "Of course not, we are part of the Patrol Office. There are 50 students on the list, including some seeds from Martial Arts key classes. If we take them all, both Captain Li and I will lose our heads by the next day."

Ma Bin "oh"ed, regrettably confirming that Chang Erbing and he weren't "family."

Just then, Ma Wei lightly knocked on the door from outside, then pushed it open as Li Shang followed inside, his face ashen.

Chang Erbing immediately stood up with a hint of confusion on his face, asking: "Captain Li, why have you suddenly come?"

Li Shang didn't answer; he sat silently on the sofa, picked up a bottle of wine from the table, and guzzled it down by the mouth.

A crisp sound as the bottle was heavily placed down.

Li Shang loosened his collar, his throat emitting a hoarse voice: "Tracking and monitoring alone isn't enough, we also need to..."

Li Shang made a throat-slitting gesture with his hand, his voice turning grim and cold: "The special agent means that the dead ones are excluded from suspicion, and those alive are naturally the [Mask] we're looking for!!!"
