Prison Chief Qian Huan sighed softly as he picked up the job application from the desk and casually glanced through it.

"Li Bashan, as the division chief of Zone B in Prison Area 1, you should report any issues or requests to your Prison Chief Zhou Hu, not bypass the hierarchy and come directly to me," Qian Huan said with a trace of resignation in his voice.

Li Bashan stood firmly in place, his expression unchanged, speaking in a deep voice: "You're the biggest in the prison, Chief. Reporting to Zhou Hu still needs your approval in the end, so why bother with the hassle?"

Qian Huan slightly furrowed his brow, a bit unaccustomed to Li Bashan's straightforward attitude.

From his words, Qian Huan could barely detect a trace of respect for his position.

He even refrains from addressing me with "Sir"?!!

This "impolite" form of address undoubtedly left an unpleasant impression on Qian Huan.

However, beyond this dissatisfaction, Qian Huan was exceptionally pleased with Li Bashan.

At the very least, Li Bashan was clearly aware of who the true decision-maker in this prison was, who the top person was.

Although his words lacked courtesy, didn't they perfectly reflect how different he is from those seasoned Prison Chiefs like Zhou Hu?

He doesn't curry favor to please superiors, nor does he outwardly comply while secretly being insubordinate.

Qian Huan pondered for a moment, then asked in a gentle tone, "Bashan, who is this candidate to you?"

Li Bashan responded crisply and directly, "He's the newly recruited junior from Douqiong Martial Arts Hall."

Qian Huan softly responded with an "Oh," a sharp glint flashing in his eyes, the corner of his mouth curling into a meaningful smile, "In principle, it can indeed be done. This year, we've been allocated three additional positions, and coincidentally, we're short one person. It'll be your junior."

He paused for a moment and continued, "However, since I'm relatively new here, it's not appropriate to break the existing rules of the prison lightly. We still have to follow the proper procedures."

Saying this, he pushed the resume back to Li Bashan, saying seriously, "Take it back and let Zhou Hu submit it again. Let's complete the necessary procedures."

Li Bashan frowned slightly, then carefully tucked the resume into his chest, responding in his deep voice, "Alright."

As soon as he finished speaking, he didn't wait for further response from Qian Huan but started with resolute steps, quickly leaving the office heading straight for Prison Area 1's Light Supervision Area.

Prison Area 1 is divided into Zones A, B, and C, arranged in a fan shape.

While passing through Zone B, the guards on duty stopped to salute Li Bashan, their demeanor respectful and solemn.

In Zone A and C, although the guards also saluted, their actions and expressions seemed careless, showing an attitude of indifference.

Li Bashan remained unfazed, walking straight through to enter the innermost Prison Chief's office.

5 minutes later.

Five minutes later, he put down the resume, expressionlessly returning to Zone B, which he managed.

From his waist, he drew out a high-voltage electric baton, with a slight flick of his finger, the baton emitted a "zzzz" sound. He swung it aimlessly as if silently venting some inner emotion.

The prisoners around, whether working on sewing machines or doing woodworking, who might have been slacking off or joking earlier, all promptly shut their mouths, each sitting up straight in fear of displeasing the division chief and ending up beaten into mush, perhaps with arcs of electricity as well.

"Did I mess up the junior's job entry?"

Li Bashan frowned in thought. He might not be able to figure out all the intricacies; he wasn't one for scheming or career ambition.

Otherwise, with his combat power, he wouldn't have been just a division chief in a prison up till now.

He was just following "Second Sister's" advice to give himself a legitimate guise and pursue his interests and hobbies by coming to the prison.

However, Li Bashan was by no means a fool.

Though he might not immediately unravel the various connections, his intuition, like that of a wild beast, vaguely sensed that there seemed to be a problem arising.

"Li, has something happened?" A guard in Zone B walked over cautiously, a tinge of wariness in his voice, but his face unhiddenly reverent.

Li Bashan stopped thinking, his thick brows unfurrowing as he grinned, "No worries, it's nothing."

Upon seeing Li Bashan's sincere smile, the guard's heart skipped a beat; their division chief often wore this expression when executing the defiant prisoners.

He already felt like mourning for that person: "Here goes another who dared displease the division chief."

The guard guessed correctly, as Li Bashan smartly thought: "Never mind, I'll stop thinking. Wherever the junior's issue arises, I'll beat whoever's responsible to solve it."

1st Prison Area Division Chief's Office.

Zhou Hu held a resume in hand, an icy gaze fixing upon the photo – Feng Mu.jpg.

"Since when can blank people be stuffed into a prison? Completely devoid of any understanding of rules," Zhou Hu spoke with obvious anger and disdain.

This division chief, nearing forty, still had a temper like a thunderstorm.

His hand gripped firmly, and the resume was instantly crushed, the face on Feng Mu.jpg contorted and deformed.

Afterward, he unhesitatingly tossed the shards into the trash bin and spat a thick glob of phlegm at the photo.

Zone A's division chief, Chang Wei, stood by, sneering: "Exactly, Li Bashan has never shown respect, devoid of rules, he even bypassed the Prison Chief this time to go straight for the Prison Chief, only to get turned down and then remember to find you again, utterly ridiculous."

C Zone's division chief, Ma Xuan, pondered then softly spoke: "He might not have been turned down; perhaps the Prison Chief agreed and just wanted Li Bashan to complete the process."

Ma Xuan paused, gazing at Zhou Hu's grim face and continued: "I suspect the new Prison Chief is testing whether you're obedient with this affair."

Before Zhou Hu could respond, Chang Wei interjected with irony in his voice, "This guy suddenly came from nowhere, parachuting here and taking your spot, still dreaming of making us bow to him, what a joke."

Chang Wei's agitation surged, furiously continuing: "Aside from the 5th Prison Chief, who's never around, among the remaining four prison areas, who truly respects this Qian Huan? Ha, what a farce!"

"Enough!"

Zhou Hu sneered coldly, cutting off Chang Wei's words,

"Don't forget the occasion, show some respect and rules. Since he occupies the position of Prison Chief, we should address him as Prison Chief by rule."

Chang Wei's tone was full of discontent, feeling injustice for Zhou Hu: "I truly feel unwilling for you, that spot should have been…"

But Zhou Hu raised his hand, stopping Chang Wei's complaint, voice low:

"So, everyone must follow the rules. Even if sitting in the position of Prison Chief, one cannot arbitrarily change them. The autonomy of each prison area is a well-established iron law of Prison 2, even if there's a new Prison Chief, they can't change it."

Zhou Hu bit his lip, striving to suppress inner frustration, a hint of ferocity flickering in his eyes: "Thus, we also need to let the Prison Chief understand, to secure his position, he must abide by everyone's rules."

"Only then is a Prison Chief truly a Prison Chief, otherwise, it's merely a high-standing ornament offering.

Having said this, Zhou Hu turned to Chang Wei, saying: "I recall you seem to have a nephew who wants to join the prison system, then quickly write up a resume and I'll deliver it to the Prison Chief this afternoon."

Zhou Hu's eyes filled with mischief: "If the Prison Chief wants us to complete a process, we'll bury him in the process, I really want to see what he can do."

Chang Wei rejoiced: "Good, I'll tell my nephew to prepare a resume right away, only that, as for Li Bashan…."

Zhou Hu showed disdain: "We ignored the Prison Chief, what is Li Bashan? As a courtesy, let him be the Division Chief in Zone B, otherwise, I'll demote him to an ordinary guard."
