Era of Magic and Martial Arts

Chapter 39: Exploitation Closing the Loopholes

Feng Mu came home close to midnight.

Wang Xiuli hadn't slept yet, waiting anxiously in the living room for him.

While she was out buying the Neutralizing Agent at the supermarket, a well-connected lady secretly informed her that her son seemed to have caused some trouble and got entangled with two thugs from the Cyan Wolf Gang.

That lady sold canned food at a stall, and her husband sold sausage congee from a cart in the morning. She spat twice as she spoke, cursing that those two thugs ate five bowls of congee without paying.

After Wang Xiuli got home, she called Feng Mu, but no one answered.

She then called Feng Ju, but no one answered.

Finally, she called Feng Yuhuai, but still, no one answered.

Feng Mu, on his way to commit murder, had considerately put his phone on silent mode.

Feng Ju was on surveillance duty, monitoring a few individuals who were, in his eyes, already labeled as deadmen. His phone had been collected and turned off.

Feng Yuhuai was courting disaster; she had gotten to know a few top martial arts students in the grade, formed a small club with them, and recently, on an impulse, was wandering around outside the school at night, hoping to bump into five exposed members of an Extremely Evil Organization.

They hoped for five because it matched their numbers, making it easier to split the credit.

Feng Yuhuai hadn't silenced her phone or turned it off; she simply didn't want to use her outdated, ugly phone in front of other club members.

When Feng Mu entered the door, he saw Wang Xiuli sitting on the sofa, staring blankly with a phone in her hands.

"You're back? Why so late? Did the Cyan Wolf Gang thugs do anything to you?" Wang Xiuli snapped back to reality, bombarding him with questions.

As she spoke, she pulled Feng Mu, looking him over from head to toe.

His jacket had some tears, which Feng Mu had made to remove the fabric stained with blood.

The shoes were dusty and dirty, inevitable when digging a hole to bury a body.

His right index finger was wrapped with a torn cloth, slightly oozing blood from where the skin was sliced off by a hook blade, a real injury.

Wang Xiuli, without saying a word, unraveled the cloth and, seeing the exposed white bone, her eyes instantly turned red: "They beat you and cut the flesh off your finger?"

Wang Xiuli's voice choked, "Why did they beat you? No, you shouldn't go out these days, just stay at home until your father comes back."

Feng Mu watched his mother bandaging him in silence and said, "No need, it was a misunderstanding, it's been resolved. They shouldn't come looking for me again."

Seeing Feng Mu not willing to talk, Wang Xiuli wiped her tears, persistently pressing for answers.

Feng Mu, helplessly, had to reveal some information, enough for Wang Xiuli to know why her son got embroiled in trouble.

In short, the Cyan Wolf Gang leader's son had died, and he blamed the students of 47 Academy, acting like a mad dog, attacking people wildly without reason.

"I explained to them properly, and later those two thugs went to trouble another limping man, so they shouldn't be bothering me anymore~"

Feng Mu ended the conversation with a vague question and retreated to his room.

Wang Xiuli couldn't be at ease; after hearing Feng Mu's explanation, she was both shocked and angry, her heart almost stuck in her throat.

She was determined to report this matter to Feng Ju in full detail.

Her son couldn't possibly be a murderer; though his talents might be slightly dull, he was usually the most honest and dull, couldn't possibly be a criminal, let alone a murderer.

Oh, right, Feng Mu mentioned the night of the 15th.

That night, he came home a bit later; Feng Ju and Feng Yuhuai happened not to be home, and she went to bed early, so.....

After some time, Wang Xiuli thought hard and recalled faint memories; she indeed wasn't clear on exactly what time Feng Mu came home that night.

"No, no, I clearly saw Feng Mu coming in that night, only slightly later than usual. If anyone asks in the future, I must answer this way, including to Feng Ju."

Wang Xiuli rubbed her temples hard, her eyes firm. She wasn't lying to cover for Feng Mu; she just felt this answer would avoid unnecessary trouble.

Also, it would spare Feng Ju from unjustly blaming Feng Mu, further straining their father-son relationship.

Feng Mu closed the door and leaned against it, standing there for a while.

Slightly exploiting Wang Xiuli left him feeling a bit guilty because, after all, this original mother's love was the only genuine concern for him in the family.

Even though Wang Xiuli cared more about Feng Yuhuai and Feng Ju, he was always the last priority.

But it's understandable, and Feng Mu took note of this grace and would repay Wang Xiuli someday.

This family, Wang Xiuli was the only one he genuinely owed some gratitude.

"The Patrol Office had already concluded the case, pegged the murderer, and the Cyan Wolf Gang was nearly resolved. Once I present the previously left out alibi, and threw out the limping true perpetrator."

Feng Mu pondered for a moment and felt that the case had all possible loopholes patched.

In the future, even if someone else came to investigate, it would be difficult to pin it on him.

Though Feng Mu didn't believe that after resolving the Cyan Wolf Gang, anyone else would dig into this case, but he was inherently cautious, having all contingencies sealed in advance.

Sitting at the desk, he reviewed today's actions as usual, summarizing and reflecting.

The pen tip scribbled on the paper, ticking each "self-assessment item," representing Feng Mu's satisfaction with his performance today.

Whether it was the planned goals, the final outcome, or the handling of surprises in the process, he was exceptional today.

Except...

Feng Mu twisted the pen tip, his gaze slightly perplexed: "Having guessed Ma Bin's intentions, I could have taken a more secure approach, kept myself out of it watching the drama, why did I get so restless at that moment, fully intent on jumping in and causing trouble?"

If given another chance to review, Feng Mu would never have chosen to make that call with Ma Bin.

Though he gained a lot, it spiked the risk factor exponentially, and it drew massive animosity.

Feng Mu's expression darkened, and he opened a drawer, inside which syringes were neatly arranged.

"Due to the daily blood draw, my blood levels never meet the full, [Frenzy Blood] worked continuously for 24 hours, my rationality, or rather my temperament subtly altered bit by bit."

Feng Mu identified the culprit—[Frenzy Blood]!

"When nothing's happening, my pure and kind nature and rationality suppress this influence."

"But once a battle erupts, I can't help but transform into someone else, stimulating Huang Mao wasn't false; I really wished, somewhere, he'd fight back and kill me with minimal health~"

Feng Mu meticulously recalled the pathological state of mind during the fight, a few drops of cold sweat surfaced on his forehead.

"I hoped for stronger attacks from the opponent, for greater injuries, for my skin and muscles to be torn, for blood vessels to rip and blood to gush endlessly, until only one drop remains within."

"Because that's what brings me closest to divinity, the body instinctually craves it, even if the cost is dying a second later."

This fight deepened Feng Mu's understanding of [Frenzy Blood], his expression varied.

"So when I noticed an opportunity for chaos, I couldn't restrain my excitement because [Frenzy Blood] eschews peace, inherently seeking danger and death."

"The only thing that comforts me is that despite the influence of [Frenzy Blood], I don't hold back in battle, nor do I intentionally get hurt to bleed."

"Wait, my choice to not retreat, the deadly head-on confrontational approach wasn't at all influenced by [Frenzy Blood]?"

Feng Mu's thought process froze for a moment, his gaze slowly locked onto [Frenzy Blood].

Internally, he muttered, "Damn, this [Frenzy Blood] entry has a bit of a sinister essence~"
