Era of Magic and Martial Arts

Chapter 78: Things Known and Unknown Big and Small

Time passed in a flash.

In the blink of an eye, it was Friday of the next week.

Feng Mu continued his nine-to-seven routine, peacefully playing the role of a crematorium worker, clocking in at the incineration plant with a regular schedule.

This week was unusually calm, with no surveillance, no stalking, no murders, and no incidents.

The abrupt shift from the intense intrigue to the simple daily life of an ordinary person gave Feng Mu a long pause and a week of rest, making him somewhat unaccustomed to it.

This was the secure, low-key life of development he had always wished for, but now, he actually found it a bit boring. The restlessness deep inside seemed to constantly urge him to stir things up.

This is a change in mindset.

He understood that he could never return to the past. Compared to a peaceful and ordinary life, he now yearned more for the days of licking blood off the blade.

Although it's dangerous and stimulating, the rewards are indeed bountiful. Unlike this week where the [Inheritance Level] was as dead as ever, unmoving.

Of course, it's not that nothing happened; quite a lot did happen this week.

First of all, the [Destiny] members of the "Old and Run-down Community," who were like cornered beasts struggling desperately, were slaughtered.

The blood stained the buildings red.

The Patrol Office and the Investigation Corps, fearing collateral damage, couldn't save the people inside. However, they fought valiantly and paid a heavy price, eventually killing all the trapped criminals, leaving none to escape, avenging the citizens.

This dominated the headlines of Zone 9 news this week, with the authorities sternly condemning [Destiny]'s atrocities and conveying Upper City Council's firm stance on further purging [Destiny].

Citizens were urged to report any suspected [Destiny] members immediately, with confirmation earning a bounty of a million.

Conversely, any collusion with [Destiny], or harboring them, would result in an immediate death penalty for the entire family upon discovery.

In short, everyone in Zone 9, from top to bottom, detests [Destiny], and there is even a group of fearless people scouring the city for "walking millions."

Of course, none found [Destiny], but a few fugitives got caught.

Another major event was that the Investigation Corps made headlines; on the same day the Old and Run-down Community was besieged, the Investigation Corps was also attacked by [Destiny]'s criminals.

With personnel distributed and caught off guard, the Investigation Corps suffered heavy casualties.

Though this group of attackers left many bodies, a few ultimately managed to escape.

Moreover, it is said the newly discovered Hidden Sect by the Investigation Corps was affected by the battle, resulting in extensive damage, requiring considerable time to piece back together.

The Advanced Team was given an extended leave.

As a result, Luo Ji again called for a meal gathering, and this time Feng Mu accepted the invitation.

There's not much to say about the gathering; after leaving school for a while, everyone had changed, most becoming more reserved and silent.

Only Luo Ji and Tao Fei, though trying to conceal it, seemed to have a renewed sense of determination in their eyes.

Luo Ji was always like this, and everyone was used to it. Tao Fei's change surprised some, but no one thought much of it.

Others were unaware of the reason, but Feng Mu, who was not much of a presence at the table, knew well, finding it quite amusing.

Additionally, two events related to Feng Mu occurred this week.

One was that Ma Wei came looking for him.

More accurately, Ma Wei came to the crematorium looking for a crematorium worker named Feng Mu, sincerely inviting him to join the Cyan Wolf Gang.

Feng Mu of course refused, but Ma Wei kept visiting the crematorium three times, blocking the door daily with an unusually friendly and sincere attitude, offering very generous salary and benefits.

A minimum monthly salary of 5000, with various hidden incomes and benefits, and flexible working hours.

Most importantly, Feng Mu didn't even need to work at Cyan Wolf Gang, but could continue working at the crematorium, only needing to ensure that the Black Core produced daily by the cremated Calamity Corpses were all internally repurchased.

Just deliver it to Cyan Wolf Gang once a week, with expenses reimbursed and a commission given. In other words, it's like working one job but receiving two salaries.

Ma Wei didn't understand why Bin valued a mere crematorium worker, but he diligently fulfilled this task specially assigned by Big Brother Bin.

Feng Mu knew this was Ma Bin's answer to the development of [Mask] as [Offline].

How to put it?

Feng Mu was very satisfied. He indeed needed a layer of gang identity to cover his slightly illegal additional income, or in case of any trouble, he could justifiably blame it on the Cyan Wolf Gang or Ma Bin.

All the money was given by Big Brother, and all the tasks were assigned by Big Brother. He's just a crematorium worker doubling as a minor gang member; what could he possibly understand?

The only drawback was that Ma Bin did the task so well that it might make people suspect Feng Mu was a pretty boy kept by Ma Bin outside.

These days, having some abnormal attraction patterns in gangs is quite common.

Feng Mu also suspected Ma Bin might have somewhat guessed [Mask]'s true identity, but it didn't matter. Ma Bin's loyalty was unquestionable, not to mention the double insurance of the Tongue Root Death Curse.

Not admitting or exposing was his discretion as [Online]. As long as he firmly denies it, Ma Bin's suspicions would remain merely [Offline] curiosity, never substantial.

The other incident was Wang Xiuli called him, crying about money issues, and Feng Mu agreed.

It was just repayment for three years of board and lodging fees, but Feng Mu wouldn't give extra, only submitting the crematorium worker's monthly salary.

Just three years of board and lodging, with the lowest tuition tier, attending free courses, deducting 3000 a month, paid off in three years, or perhaps find a chance to clear it with a lump sum later.

No extra payment; if Feng Ju dared to have ill intentions and ask for more, Feng Mu wouldn't hesitate to chop off his other hand.

The day Feng Mu received the call, he went to the hospital to hand in his full month's salary.

In reality, the incineration plant's salary hadn't been issued yet, so Feng Mu used "illegal funds" to advance it.

At the hospital, Feng Ju's attitude softened, probably due to Feng Yuhuai's persuasion, but Feng Mu wasn't buying it at all.

He had no desire to play out some fake familial relationship, a heartfelt father-son mutual understanding leading to a reunion ending.

Feng Mu would rather be a ruthless villain than perform such nauseating acts, just maintaining this cold debt relationship was enough.

After handing over the money and saying, "I'm moving out," Feng Mu turned and left, giving Feng Ju no chance to react.

Feng Ju was so furious that his inner turmoil seemed palpable, and his severed arm itched as if it were growing back, but it didn't stop Feng Mu's departure.

That very night, he rented a room in an old neighborhood near the crematorium, and the next day he packed and moved his belongings.

He had very few belongings: just a sack of rusty nails, two suitcases, a broken computer, and a chipped bicycle.

Everything else, Feng Mu left behind. They were all cheap; he would just buy them as needed later.

The above,

are the major and minor events this week from Feng Mu's perspective.

As for other matters, such as Feng Ju redeeming the Bone Refining Pill, Feng Yuhuai becoming a member of the Azure Dragon Martial Arts Hall, and happily receiving a long-term meal ticket.

Or Zhang Hao getting stitched up at a black clinic, and the fool playing with ants, being the top clue to finding [Mask], hiding around and being vigorously pursued by Li Shang's managed Patrol Office, held in full pursuit and wanted.

Additionally, a new delivery man of the Calamity Corpse Sect unable to find the delivery recipient, along with some amusing incidents in certain prisons, etc.

Those are beyond Feng Mu's perspective, belonging to the concealed stories happening elsewhere in the shadows, temporarily unknown to Feng Mu.

Today, at this moment, having just returned to his new residence, Feng Mu practiced the Body Forging Exercise twice in the living room, focusing his perspective on the [Iron Eater]'s cold progress panel, falling into contemplation....
