Chapter 32: The Battle of Xiajiang

Chen Tang looked at the corpse on the ground and suppressed the desires in his heart.

He really wanted to search these people thoroughly.

But he also knew that searching corpses required the right occasion and timing.

At present, they were being pursued; lingering even a moment longer increased the danger.

The beautiful woman held Dugu Qingcheng, and the three of them followed closely behind.

After walking like this for half a day, Dugu Qingcheng awoke, seeing Chen Tang and the others unharmed beside her, she was overjoyed.

During that time, the beautiful woman went out for a while.

When she returned, she found some clothes and threw them to Chen Tang and the others, telling them to change.

The clothes Chen Tang and the others were wearing were not only stained with blood but also seen by many people, making them easily noticeable.

After changing clothes, they followed the beautiful woman and resumed their journey.

After about ten days, they arrived at a place called Mist Rain Village.

This place was still within the borders of Bingzhou, not far from Jingyang County, as mentioned by the Mountain Guest.

Mist Rain Village was located in fertile territory, surrounded by mountains, with layers of verdant peaks.

During the rainy season, mist would rise between the mountains, enveloping the village, making it look like an Immortal Realm.

A short wall was erected around the village for some defensive purpose.

At the village entrance, under an old locust tree, a group of people, both adults and children, sat intently listening to an elderly man narrating something.

Chen Tang and his companions entered the village unobserved by the group.

However, the elderly storyteller glanced in Chen Tang's direction.

"Storyteller, continue please, Celestial King Qin led a million troops to the Fu Shui riverbank, but Wu Country only had eighty thousand troops, how did they resist at Fu Shui?"

Upon hearing the urged demand, the elderly man resumed, "The Qin Army claimed to have a million, but in reality, only had over two hundred thousand. At the time, the northern region was unstable, with the main Qin forces guarding the northern border against invasion."

"Yet, despite this, Celestial King Qin was determined to conquer Wu Country! At the time, Celestial King Qin was famed as the top expert of Qin Country, at the height of his power. Wu Country had a Sword God, hailed as Wu Country's top expert."

"At the frontlines, the two faced off over Fu Shui, the battle was earth-shattering, breaking the flow of Fu Shui…"

Upon hearing this, Dugu Qingcheng, who was leading at the front, suddenly said, "Mother, this sounds like..."

"Do not speak recklessly!"

The beautiful woman coldly rebuked Dugu Qingcheng with an unprecedented severity.

Startled, Dugu Qingcheng dared not speak further.

Changsun Ming showed a strange expression, glancing at Chen Tang and Yuwen Heigou, whispering, "This storyteller seems to be recounting the previous dynasty's events."

"Really."

Yuwen Heigou showed little interest, casually responding.

Changsun Ming whispered, "This Fu Shui Battle is actually the previous dynasty's Xiajiang Battle, and the Celestial King Qin mentioned is the Former Emperor Wu. As far as I know, the Former Emperor Wu had the surname Qin."

Chen Tang's mind jolted, as if realizing something.

Finally, they paused at the village entrance to listen.

The elderly storyteller continued, "Ordinarily, Wu Country's Sword God was not a match for Celestial King Qin. However, during their battle, a treacherous person attempted to assassinate Celestial King Qin!"

"Ah!"

As the audience reached the crucial moment, they gasped softly.

The elderly storyteller said, "Although the assassin was not as strong as Celestial King Qin, he was skilled in assassination, having awaited this moment for a long time. However, even alone, he couldn't harm Celestial King Qin."

"At the moment he acted, another peerless expert attacked Celestial King Qin!"

Infuriated by this, someone cried out, "Though a peerless expert, why not face Celestial King Qin one on one, and instead resort to kicking someone when they're down, truly shameless!"

"Three against one, Celestial King Qin was surely unsustainable."

"Did Celestial King Qin have no aides?"

Listening to the crowd, the elderly storyteller shook his head slightly and said, "At such a high level, others could scarcely intervene. In fact, during that battle, Celestial King Qin fought three on his own, and ultimately, it resulted in mutual exhaustion!"

"Unfortunately, in the end, the Fu Shui Battle saw Qin Army defeated."

"The final peerless expert to appear employed methods beyond common comprehension, turning vegetation into soldiers wielding sharp blades, and even some experts arrived riding cranes, slaughtering Qin Army from above with Flying Swords, each crane scream marked Qin Army casualties…"

"Ah!"

"Could these methods be employed by an Immortal?"

"Why would such an Immortal aid Wu Country against Celestial King Qin?"

The audience erupted in exclamations and discussion.

Chen Tang was left flabbergasted.

Cranes crying, vegetation turned soldiers?

The scene described by the elderly storyteller bore a resemblance to a historic war recorded in past histories.

Of course, the storyteller's description was even more fantastical.

Chen Tang had long noticed that some traces in this world bore a resemblance to his previous life.

But the majority were starkly different.

Changsun Ming whispered, "I am certain this elder is recounting the previous dynasty's events, albeit with different names. That Wu Country Sword God must be Nanxia Sword Sect!"

Yuwen Heigou said, "Let's go, no need to listen to these past stories."

Following the beautiful woman, they entered Mist Rain Village, Changsun Ming still lingering somewhat, occasionally glancing back at the elderly storyteller, marveling, "This elder is quite bold, daring to retell past events with alternate names."

"If someone reports this to the Government Office, it's a beheading crime for sure!"

The beautiful woman suddenly asked, "Do you plan to report it? I reckon reporting would earn you a reward and credit."

Dugu Qingcheng suddenly looked nervous, eyeing Changsun Ming.

Unaware of her expression, Changsun Ming felt displeased and frowned, "What are you implying, senior? How could someone like Changsun Ming commit such despicable acts?"

"Even if this elder speaks of the previous dynasty, it seems irrelevant to me."

Dugu Qingcheng exhaled in relief, smiling once more.

The beautiful woman's expression remained indifferent, without further inquiry.

Changsun Ming did not realize he had briefly hovered over Ghost Gate.

Following the beautiful woman, they entered the village.

The village was bustling, with people slaughtering pigs and sheep, and others hawking simple food by the roadside.

"Madam Lu has returned."

A villager greeted her warmly, smiling.

"Qing'Er, you've finally returned, causing your parents much worry."

A villager remarked upon seeing Dugu Qingcheng, smiling.

Returning to the village, Dugu Qingcheng behaved very obediently, warmly greeting the villagers, entirely unlike the cold-blooded killer she was outside...

If not for Chen Tang and the others having witnessed her skills, they would have easily been deceived.

The villagers found Chen Tang and his companions somewhat unfamiliar, but since they were introduced by Madam Lu, they nodded and smiled at them.

Chen Tang and the others returned the greeting with smiles.

The villagers appeared sincere and friendly, the most ordinary of people; they encountered dozens of them along the way, none showing any signs of martial arts training.
