Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 156: I Must Save Su

Zhang Min's pupils contracted violently, and the damned smiling face from her memory was right in front of her.

Why is he here?

That's a Tier Two Zombie with a strong corpse armor.

A monster that even bullets couldn't penetrate, why did it seem as frail as paper before him?

She was already a Tier One Evolver, she had gained power that ordinary people could only look up to, she... was no longer the weakling abandoned by the train.

So why, when facing him, did she still feel like a cat with its neck pinched, unable to even muster the courage to struggle?

She felt the "Seed of Hatred" surging inside her, which should have been her source of power, her reliance for revenge, yet at this moment, it cowered like a young beast frightened by a storm, trembling, not daring to feed back even a bit of malice to her.

Why did the man in front of her harbor no malice towards her?

No killing, no desire, not even a hint of disgust?

Or was he so strong that it exceeded the limits of what her abilities could seize upon...

How could the gap be so wide?

She looked at the lightning still flickering around Su Huan, and at his teasing eyes, and suddenly realized—

The "growing stronger" she believed in, was perhaps just a laughable self-consolation in his eyes.

She had struggled to reach Tier One, yet he... had already stood at a height she couldn't even look up to.

Why?

She bit her lip hard until the taste of blood spread in her mouth.

Why could she chase with all her might and not even touch his shadow?

Why could the person she hated to the bone appear before her again with such a nonchalant demeanor?

Unwillingness...

Anger...

Despair...

Emotions churned in her chest, but in the end, transformed into a whisper even she couldn't hear clearly—

"Conductor, what... kind of monster... are you..."

"The conductor likes polite children, so this time, I'll let it slide."

Even though blood couldn't stop flowing out as soon as he opened his mouth, and his body felt like it was splitting apart in pain, Su Huan still pulled out a perfect smile.

Supporting himself on his knees to stand up, energy kept overflowing from his body like a leaking balloon.

Su Huan's lightning zone extended ten meters around him.

"Bang-bang——"

The sound of a sniper rifle rang out steadily, helping Su Huan clear the surrounding zombies and Evolution Beasts approaching.

Looking indifferently at Professor Xu in front of him, "People, the serum!"

When he charged to the experiment tower, he happened to run into this person in charge, grabbed him by the collar for an account, and found the Genetic Primordial was gone, chasing here with lightning speed.

Director Xu quickly pointed to the broken cockpit beside him.

Although he couldn't see anyone, Su Huan felt something very "delicious" in the cockpit attracting him.

He tore open the deformed car door and looked inside.

The girl in front of him bore a three-to-five-point resemblance to Lin Jin, only with more delicate features and a terribly thin body, looking like a little bean sprout shorted on food by the Steel Council, beautiful though he never interested in such types.

"No."

The girl suddenly said.

Su Huan's eyes grew sharp immediately, with a faint smile hanging at the corner of his mouth, "No what?"

The girl said nothing more.

"What are her abilities in those two domains?" Su Huan asked Director Xu.

The latter hesitated for a moment.

Another ability was disintegrating, but Su Huan's face showed no rush, instead kindly saying, "Is the one below your assistant or student? Why not let me dig him out, and you two have an extreme buzz-in round, the slower one gets eliminated, what do you think?"

Director Xu had never seen anyone so wild; even those with the most power on the Steel Council would maintain basic respect for him.

"It's the domains of manipulation and collection."

'Collection...' Su Huan savored these words carefully, looking at the young girl with a wicked smile.

"Lin Xi, is it? Your brother sold you to me as a wife."

The girl's expression was very subtle.

Su Huan looked at the bloodstain on her dress and suddenly frowned, lifting her skirt to smooth down from the knee joint along the shinbone, feeling cold and smooth under his hands, like a piece of silken tofu.

'Luckily, it was just a scratch, not a bone injury, or I'd have to carry her.'

Lin Xi showed no surprise towards this series of actions, she just quietly looked him over with her pale gray eyes.

When he finished checking the injury and put down her skirt, she held out her arms, softly saying, "Hold."

"Huh?!"

Su Huan squinted his eyes slightly.

He bent down, one hand supporting her waist, the other passing through the crook of her legs, just lifting her up when a mouthful of blood surged up.

Not concealing it, he turned his head and spat it to the side.

This scene left Director Xu beside them deep in thought.

Su Huan felt something touch the corner of his mouth, turning back to find the girl seriously wiping the blood off the corner of his lips with her sleeve.

The large area of searchlights in the south had already gone dark, leaving only a few to illuminate a corner of the raging zombie tide.

A troop transport vehicle stopped horizontally in front of Su Huan, the door opened, and Jiang Rong's voice came through.

Not bothering with her futile actions, he said in a deep voice, "Bring the Genetic Primordial Serum, go!"

Director Xu hurriedly said, "There's a pan-energy detection device in the car!"

Upon hearing this, Su Huan's eyes suddenly gleamed.

He had indeed heard of this, it was what the Steel Council had exchanged for at great cost before the apocalypse.

Not to mention an armored train, even the current Steel Council couldn't develop such a device utilizing pan-energy.

Conducting scientific research in the apocalypse was no simple matter.
