Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 52: This Is the Protagonist You Chose?

Watching Yu Yue's nervous demeanor, Su Huan's eyes flickered, but he said nothing, only holding her waist tighter.

"As long as I'm on the carriage, no one can harm me."

A calm voice exuding unparalleled confidence.

Like a stabilizing force, plunging into turbulent waves, it dispelled the unease in Yu Yue's heart.

Su Huan led her forward with long strides.

Before they even approached the carriage door, Lao San's irritable voice came through, "Bullshit, I think you're up to no good, why are you locking the door before the conductor returns?!"

A slight smile played on Su Huan's lips as he pushed the carriage door open.

There, he saw Lao San and his two brothers holding guns, cornering a group, among whom one with a scarred face took the lead.

Seeing Su Huan arrive, Lao San quickly called out, "Everyone else ran forward, but this guy led a group backward. It felt off, so I followed them."

The scarred man, seeing Su Huan, turned pale and quickly defended, "I came to support the conductor. It's you who falsely accused us without any evidence."

Su Huan ignored him, instead looking at the Yu Yue in his arms, asking softly, "Is it him?"

Yu Yue's ears twitched, and she nodded vigorously.

"If I didn't hear wrong, it was this voice."

At those words, cold sweat beaded on the scarred man's forehead. He had encountered Gao Zhe before, so he understood the situation instantly.

This woman had awakened as an Evolver!

"Bang!"

A muffled sound came from behind, as Night Demon's body, hanging on the rearmost carriage door, shook.

Su Huan sensed something and turned his head.

Night Demon's emaciated corpse was torn in half by a terrifying force.

The dismembered body fell to both sides, viscous blood stretching into strands.

A tall headless figure stood behind the door, its shoulders splitting open, revealing a dark human head inside, scarlet eyes piercing through the blood and two carriage doors to meet Su Huan's gaze.

If it evolved a few more tiers, it might discern the emotion in those human eyes, perhaps called... disappointment.

"Is this the protagonist you wanted to choose?" Su Huan's tone carried a faint regret.

Upon seeing the bone sword in the opponent's hand, he recognized it.

A Tier One zombie mutated from a Defender, a Slaughterer.

Zombies mutated from Evolvers would soon enter the second phase.

However, the corpse armor on it hadn't formed, indicating that the mutation failed, trapped in a phase of genetic collapse.

If losing one's mind and turning into a zombie was a first death.

Then genetic collapse means losing all possibilities.

Gao Zhe no longer existed in this world, only an ordinary Slaughterer, no different from those Butchers, Night Demons, or normal zombies outside.

It had lost reason and thought, lost its unique mark on this world.

The Slaughterer began to charge, and the metal door, which could withstand Night Demon's impact, was instantly hacked apart.

Su Huan remained unfazed.

Retracting his hand, he pressed a switch in his pocket.

"Bang!"

An explosion suddenly severed the connection of the last carriage with the train.

The detached carriage, driven by inertia, veered into the zombie horde on both sides of the track.

The zombies there were pleased with the conductor's gift, remaining silent.

The Slaughterer swung its bone whip, piercing through the front carriage door, hooking firmly onto it, attempting to use brute strength to halt the steel giant weighing four thousand tons.

Of course, it was a courageous choice.

But like those road-blocking Butchers, a mindless choice.

The train didn't even shudder; the Slaughterer was dragged behind it like a dead dog off its leash.

Its body intimately scraped against the hard gravel and tracks.

Bone fragments flew in all directions.

Looking at the battered Slaughterer, Su Huan couldn't help but feel a tinge of pity, disappointment mingling with absurdity, compelling him to laugh.

"Is this the protagonist you chose to replace me?"

Though spoken in a questioning tone, it sent a chilling sensation from the spines of the tense group.

Su Huan turned around, pressing the assault rifle into the scarred man's hands, "Go, finish him off."

Lao San frowned, glanced at Su Huan, but hesitated.

The scarred man glanced subconsciously at the old man behind him, then at the dragged Slaughterer, his expression fluctuating.

Su Huan had realized he was a traitor.

Gao Zhe, turned zombie, was no longer significant; the crux was that Su Huan couldn't let him live.

Understanding this, the scarred man's face twisted with fury, he swung the gun towards Su Huan's forehead, "Die!"

"Click, click, click..."

The sound of a jam echoed.

"Sorry, I forgot the bullets were out."

Su Huan apologized without a trace of sincerity.

The corners of Lao San's mouth twitched; this guy was dark through and through.

"Poof!"

The scarred man looked incredulously at his chest as a chilling bone spike pierced through it.

His body was suddenly pulled back, crashing against the carriage door.

The Slaughterer stubbornly climbed up, looking miserably broken, both legs cut off, the bone sword in one hand shattered.

Only the bone whip remained relatively intact.

I guess Gao Zhe wasn't the protagonist, nor was he the antagonist.

Reality wasn't a novel; roles couldn't be exchanged.

"Remember to bring back the body."

Su Huan waved disinterestedly, turning to walk forward.

The three brothers immediately stopped holding back, their armor-piercing rounds and high-explosive bullets showered onto the Slaughterer in less than ten seconds.

The dark head was blasted into a pulp.

The muzzle flashes from the bullets illuminated Su Huan's face intermittently.

He cast a faint glance at the old man hiding at the rear. The old man was watching him, eyes calm, whether feigned or genuinely tired of life was uncertain.

Su Huan's lips curled up, "A motley crew, laughable."

High-voltage electricity surged from below.

In an instant, the few people's eyes turned white, collapsing to the ground, ceasing to breathe.

Yu Yue ran over, picked up the fallen hummingbird SMG, and obediently handed it to Su Huan.

Su Huan shook his head, "You keep it."

Soon, the three brothers returned, dragging the Slaughterer's body.

Su Huan pressed another button.

With a blast, the last shattered green carriage rolled away.

It's not that explosions are cooler, but a moving train can't sever the rear carriages by conventional means, so Su Huan had Xiaoba package explosives in the metal connections early on.

Not only these two sections had them, but all except for the latest eight hydrogen-powered carriages were planted with explosives.

The train's speed increased.

Ordinary zombies found it hard to climb up, only a few Night Demons roamed the rooftops.

As they moved forward, they cleared a path.

To prevent these ordinary carriages from being severely damaged by zombies.

Soon, they arrived at the front carriages.
