Beast Taming: Abyssal Descent

Chapter 40: Joining Forces to Slay the Werewolf

Mo Jin hovered in the air, its ruby-like eyes fixed intently on the werewolf on the ground.

For a moment, the Great Needle Bee and the Deteriorated Werewolf were locked in a standoff, neither able to overpower the other.

However, the one with the slight upper hand was still Mo Jin. It hovered high in the sky, its tail needle shooting out like miniature missiles continuously.

The werewolf kept waving its sharp claws, sweeping away the poison needles, yet it could only take the hits passively, exhausted from running around.

Because this guy couldn't fly, nor did it have any long-range attacks.

Even if it picked up stones from the ground and threw them skyward, it was futile. Mo Jin wasn't foolish; by moving a little, it could easily evade the thrown weapons.

In this awkward standoff, neither could gain the upper hand.

After exhausting each other for a few minutes, Mo Jin's eyes narrowed, activating the Wind skill.

A small cyan whirlwind wrapped around its wings, slightly boosting its speed.

After adjusting its sprint angle slightly, Mo Jin dived down, maximizing its speed, its dual riding spears aiming straight at the werewolf's face.

At the moment of direct confrontation, the Deteriorated Werewolf roared, and its whole body suddenly swelled up a notch.

The werewolf exerted force on its legs, its claws thrust forward, intertwining to form a claw net, trying to block the Great Needle Bee's path.

In the blink of an eye, Mo Jin's speed also suddenly surged.

At the extreme, its insect body twisted, the twin riding spears bursting into flowers of spear shadows, enveloping the werewolf in a flurry of spear images.

The ear-piercing clash of metal and iron resounded with sparks flying.

The riding spears and sharp claws continuously clashed, collided, and scraped against each other in an instant.

The battle between the two lasted only a moment, passing by each other, immediately pulling away to create distance.

Mo Jin flew back into the sky, maintaining a distance of thirty meters from the werewolf, hovering in the air.

Yet at this moment, it bore a three-finger claw mark on its abdomen, with threads of fresh blood seeping out.

After several trips to the Abyssal Dungeon, fighting in so many battles, it finally got injured and bled.

The werewolf on the ground was in even worse condition, with a blood hole on its left shoulder. Although it wasn't pierced through, blood was flowing incessantly, further impairing the movement of its left arm.

In addition to this, its abdomen had also been torn with a half-foot long gash, with blood seeping out to soak its brown fur red.

On the surface, this close-quarters battle seemed to end in both sides taking damage, but in truth, the werewolf's situation was more dire.

If the bleeding werewolf continued to fight, it was only a matter of time before Mo Jin would drag it to death.

But, this battle wasn't up to it to choose; whether to retreat completely depended on whether the Great Needle Bee hovering in the air would allow it.

Clearly, Mo Jin had no intention of letting it go, and Mo Qingchen, watching from a distance, had no intention of sparing the werewolf either.

"This Tier Three werewolf is slightly weaker than Jin in terms of Power and Agility. It seems that a Level 35 werewolf can just about surpass Jin in Power and Agility."

The battle between one insect and one wolf was entirely within Mo Qingchen's sight, allowing him to directly deduce the strength of the Deteriorated Werewolf.

Mo Jin, limited by its tier, could only exert a maximum of 70 Attribute points, pairing with Skills to unleash stronger damage.

But these werewolves were not simple either; their Talent for Brutality could boost attacks, their Frenzy Skill could enhance Power and Speed, and their Rush could also increase speed.

In close combat, a Tier Three werewolf could directly confront the Tier Two Mo Jin, and even if slightly disadvantaged, it could still cause some harm to the Great Needle Bee.

Getting injured meant losing strength, and when facing higher-level Deteriorated Werewolves later on, there was a risk of falling.

If that's the case, then they could only take a gamble.

"Jin, engage and tangle it, just don't let it escape. Once I get closer, we'll strike together. I'll use Telekinesis to control the cone spikes to assist you."

Through the Beast Taming Contract, Mo Qingchen conveyed the information to Mo Jin.

In cooperation with the person and the insect, slaying this werewolf would become a bit easier.

But Mo Qingchen was very self-aware; engaging in close combat was out of the question for him as he didn't want to risk his life.

However, using cone spikes to launch a sneak attack was no problem, especially now that his Spiritual Power had nearly doubled.

A distance of 39 meters was sufficient to ensure his safety.

Utilizing the stones and greenery in the canyon for cover, Mo Qingchen quickly reached the edge of the battlefield, and his Spiritual Power was already able to cover the werewolf.

Two cone spikes, under the control of Telekinesis, flew along the ground, swiftly approaching the target.

At this moment, a gray light suddenly appeared on Mo Jin's body, like a layer of shell covering its exterior.

The Hard Armor skill activated, enhancing the insect body's certain defensive abilities.

Next, it was the simultaneous bursting of Wind + High-speed Movement + Extreme Speed Sprint, its speed suddenly soaring to the limit as it charged straight towards the Deteriorated Werewolf.

At the moment of closing in, the Lance Charge Attack skill was deployed, and the dual riding spears turned into bright remnants of spear flowers, enveloping the werewolf in a flurry of spear images.

The Great Needle Bee's sudden outburst caught the Deteriorated Werewolf by surprise, but it also activated its amplification skills in the blink of an eye.

One insect and one wolf once again engaged in close combat.

Just as they clashed, two cone spikes shot up from the ground, precisely aiming at the werewolf's eyes with pinpoint precision!

In a split second, the Deteriorated Werewolf forcibly twisted its head.

One cone spike grazed its cheek, leaving a deep wound down to the bone.

The other cone spike, however, accurately pierced into the werewolf's eyeball.

The rotating cone spike, like a drill bit, instantly punctured its eyeball, drilling straight into its brain.

At the moment when the werewolf was stunned by the injury, Mo Jin naturally seized this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

One of the two riding spears swept across, breaking through the werewolf's claw defense, while the other, wielding fierce power, pierced through the center and stabbed into the opponent's chest.

"Ugh, ugh..."

Letting out a few unintelligible cries, the Deteriorated Werewolf collapsed, convulsing and slowly losing its signs of life.

[Hint: Guardian Beast (Mo Jin) has slain Deteriorated Werewolf (Level 32), Guardian Beast has earned Experience Points +3000.]

Upon seeing the system panel information pop up, Mo Qingchen let out a sigh of relief and quickly ran to Mo Jin's side, taking out Golden Wound Medicine from his Space Backpack.

"Thankfully, the wound isn't deep."

While checking Mo Jin's injuries, he applied the medicine. There were three claw marks on its body; aside from the first claw mark being slightly deeper, the other two were just skin-deep.

"Jin, next time in close combat, use the Hard Armor skill first to enhance your protection."

After applying the Golden Wound Medicine, Mo Qingchen gave a brief instruction before packing the nearby werewolf's corpse into the inventory.

The Werewolf Skeleton, when taken out from the Abyssal Dungeon, is worth 1000 Dragon Coins per pound.

This Deteriorated Werewolf is over two meters tall, with its skeleton weighing at least 25 pounds, making it an income of 25,000 Dragon Coins!
