My Weekly Refreshing Mentor Spirit

Chapter 181: Are You Hurt?

Austin never expected that merely contacting the mystic scholars he was familiar with would result in encountering a fallen elder who brought along several infants and summoned a terrifying monster.

The Wendigo, a twisted creature resembling a humanoid elk, widely spoken of by both Native Americans and later colonizers, wears the skull of an elk on its head, sports antlers over a meter long, stands tall and robust, with solid muscles, and each step it takes carries a heavy oppressive feeling, as if the earth trembles beneath it.

But what sent chills down Austin's spine even more was that this Wendigo wasn't a real monster, but an evil spirit "resurrected" through Qijela's desolate fungus trait.

This made its body overgrown with twisted branches and vines, adorning its antlers and figure, like a vengeful spirit long buried in this land.

"See it, mystic scholar? Hahaha, to us now, what is mysticism? Watch carefully, we have become mages and can even manifest evil spirits from fantasy into reality on this colonized soil!" Hornheim's eyes, grown with branches, stared fixedly at Austin.

Branches sprouted rapidly from his body, and by now, he had entirely turned into a "vegetative person."

Austin knew that Qijela's branches could graft onto human bodies without causing rejection; they would perfectly integrate with a human body, giving rise to "magic organs" that humans could possess.

But the fate of these "vegetative people" was invariably dreadful, either completely overtaken and devoured by Qijela's branches, turning into a tree rooted in the earth, or losing all sense of self, becoming undead shells.

Even Qijela's "Divine Wood Rebirth" research was merely because those trees forcefully occupied the corpses from within, turning them into puppets controlled by plants.

Such as the examples of winter worm and zombie ants in nature, where fungi control the bodies of animals to move, all of this was within Austin's realm of understanding.

But what he couldn't comprehend now was how they managed to summon the local monster from America by sacrificing only two lives, which indeed didn't belong to the realm of mysticism but rather—magic!

However, having personally experienced magic, Austin, who now barely qualified as a Tier Two mage, knew the Wendigo before him virtually had no magic power inside it; it was entirely just an evil spirit manipulated by Qijela.

This was completely not magic!

And at this moment, having learned Holy Light, Austin completely understood that the so-called mystic scholars had long ceased to be considered "human" inside.

They had completely transformed into twisted beings purely in pursuit of "magic," willing to do anything for it, changing themselves into any form, bearing any consequence, as long as they could master "magic," any cost was bearable, everything was worth it.

Understanding this point, cold sweat continually dripped from Austin's forehead, had he not met that person, hadn't mastered Holy Light, and hadn't learned the advanced path of Holy Light in the tokusatsu show, gaining a brightly open road laid before him.

In confronting such an evil sacrifice summoning evil spirits, could he still maintain his humanity?

From the moment he started doubting himself, he realized he might not refuse.

But after obtaining Holy Light, this purest form of energy required someone of immense resolve and sacrifice to harness, so he had no choice but to force himself to adapt to Holy Light, allowing him to see clearly the former mystic scholars like a bystander...

How repugnant they were!

Wretched, filthy, ugly, even despicable.

Just to kill him, they sacrificed two vibrant lives without regard; those two infants seemingly just had their umbilical cords cut, hadn't even opened their eyes to see the world, and left this life just like that!

What on earth do you regard human lives as!

Rage surged forth, the power of Holy Light surged fiery red like an erupting volcano within this veteran mystic scholar.

"Hornheim, I initially wanted to impart a bit of my insights on the path of magic to my former friends, but I've now realized I was wrong, gravely wrong, our pursuit of magic has ventured onto the wrong path, look at what you've become now, does your heart still hold the honor of the Hornheim family?"

"Hah, honor? Being able to master magic, that's true honor!" The other paid no heed to Austin's verbal assault, the next moment, the Wendigo swung its claws with a sonic boom-like might.

"Then let me show you the true power of magic, and that filthy technique you toy with, doesn't deserve to be called magic!" The Holy Light in Austin's hand flared up, swirling into a circular saw blade resembling an electric saw.

At this moment, both the evil spirit Wendigo and the mystic scholar Hornheim on the opposite side were stunned, not through ritual and trickery, but pure energy, this was magic! True magic, and it was Light Magic!

Why, why was this guy across so fortunate to acquire true magic!

Hornheim touched his face the next moment, yet couldn't feel his features, for where his features should be were entirely twisted branches, to him, the so-called features had completely transformed into another form of receiving external information.

This made him all the more envious, why, when both mastered magic, could the other stand like a normal person, seemingly standing in the light, while he had to, like a maggot, obtain a minuscule power.

This jealousy instantly turned into anger, and the Wendigo charged at Austin.

And Austin watched the terrifying creature originating from America, the corners of his mouth curled up.

Hornheim, once from a prestigious lineage among mystic scholars, a figure he once looked up to, even considered the "strongest mystic scholar family," but now, a pitifully thick barrier stood between them, placing them on entirely different levels.

And only after mastering Magic did I become truly the strongest.

Right now, it's the strongest Mystic Scholar in history against the new Mage.

And his opponent is not only the Mystic Scholar in a vegetative state, but also the unknown Evil Spirit Wendigo. If it's one against two, it's quite tricky.

"However, I will win." Austin displayed the smile of a victor and said resolutely, "Senior Hornheim, let me show you real magic, don't worry, it won't take much of your time."

He smiled as he delivered his pre-battle trash talk.

...

2 minutes later...

A figure was knocked flying, skidding nearly a hundred meters across the forest floor, the ground seemed to crack open with pits from the battle, only stopping when crashing into a tree.

Austin felt his whole body was falling apart; if not for the unexpected toughness of his body, he felt he would have been almost sliced in half.

Even without being sliced in half, he couldn't feel his lower body, his spine must be broken...

I've disgraced Mages, I'm really sorry...

Austin looked at Hornheim sneering in the distance, as well as the terrifying Wendigo. Just now they clashed, but in that instant he realized something was wrong.

Why is this monster so strong?

This was the only thought he could manage.

Then he could only desperately maneuver his body to dodge, trying to gain a moment to catch his breath, but it barely lasted two minutes.

"You indeed didn't waste much of my time, Austin." The old man across from him smirked sinisterly, he hadn't expected that Austin, as a Mage, was so... weak...

They had never fought amongst Mages before, having no frame of reference.

If Xue Dili were here, they would only be speechless.

Austin was only Tier Two, and barely so, able to normally exert Tier Two strength only in the body made flesh by Xue Dili's Fantasy Manifestation. Across from him, the Wendigo was nearly Tier Four, a terrifying creature that in Greek Mythology would require several heroes to besiege, akin to the Minotaur.

The two of them were separated by a large rank gap.

Will he win?

Absolutely doomed!

Yet in this moment, Austin didn't panic. He calmly reached into the pocket lining where there was a phone.

By luck, under such circumstances, the phone's screen was merely broken, but could still light up.

Hornheim didn't seem intent on killing his opponent outright. He decided to keep Austin alive, absolutely needing to obtain his magic, and to ask the origin of the magic.

This greed rendered him completely irrational.

The old Mystic Scholar Austin merely dialed a number silently, then immediately said, "Master, west longitude 123°02, north latitude 44°56, northwest of Salem in the forest, save me!"

Finishing, he tossed the phone aside, its shattered screen disappearing who knows where.

This scene caused Hornheim to freeze for a moment; he was utterly confused, having no idea what kind of struggle this Mystic Scholar could unleash even now. In any case, what use was a phone call?

Could his support magically teleport here?

However, this was the last scenario he could imagine.

As he was puzzled, suddenly a distorted spatial gate appeared, and in the next moment, a vertically falling Beheading Blade flashed out of the Teleportation Gate beyond biological reaction limits, slicing the Wendigo in half vertically from top to bottom, splitting him, who was hiding behind the Wendigo, from the middle as well.

Xue Dili stepped out of the Teleportation Gate, observing the chaotic scene and the enemies sliced in half. Tilting their head in confusion, they said, "What happened here? You're not hurt, right?"

Austin finally heaved a sigh of relief, and then realized his condition wasn't good. Although if he died, he might still return to the Magic Academy, it was best not to die, so he immediately said, "Sir, please save me, I guess I'm not really injured, but rather about to die."
