The old friends of Ancient Greece have all left; they have their own poetry and distant places.
Though staying in this world means they've essentially lost everything, starting anew with Treasures, power, and every former relationship and concept, they also must face over 600 million enemies lurking in the shadows.
These enemies are the most cunning and evil misfits in the world, part of the 5.2 billion people turned into zombies, a part that even the Light could not save: they are unparalleled darkness, representing humanity's darkest facet.
Yet none of them hesitated. With 600 million enemies hidden in the shadows, Xue Dili certainly doesn't have the time to pick them off one by one, so they decided to stay, as they said, "Someone has to deal with this."
But next comes the tale of the Masked Rider and the misfits. He might occasionally pay attention, but he won't act like a nanny always watching over it anymore; he has more important things to do.
Not far away, three Evil Spirits were exchanging their insights, mainly listening to Annabelle recount how difficult it was to withstand the attacks of the Evil Spirit's avatars and how she turned into a Toy Bear to fight for her life.
This girl seemed to have a knack for storytelling; her tales left Old Barak and the old master Lovecraft quite amazed, almost saying, "Here's a pen; you write the story, and we'll get it published together..."
Then, somehow, the conversation drifted to a story about Ultraman she'd just watched. She continuously scratched her head, searching for her phone, or rather, "Xue Dili's" phone.
Those two broken phones were Xue Dili's old ones, formatted and loaded with over a hundred gigabytes of Ultraman shows specifically to hand over to kids they might encounter, letting them enjoy more tokusatsu.
One of them ended up with the old Mystic Scholar Austin and eventually found its way to this child.
"Oh, it's gone...," she sighed, deflated like a punctured ball.
"You mentioned before that the battle with the Evil Spirit's avatar was intense, so you probably lost it accidentally back then, right?" the old master Lovecraft patted the young girl's head.
Even he found it intriguing; the three Evil Spirits, summoned in such a manner, genuinely grew fond of this era's world, especially himself, someone with Randolph Carter, the legendary investigator from the Cthulhu mythos, as his core, unexpectedly developing an attachment to another Parallel World.
In this story, though not the legendary investigator, he became an assistant, but within Qijela, he was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Even if not the MVP, he was certainly the best assistant.
Reflecting on this, the old master removed his mask, revealing a slender face of a middle-aged man beneath.
Quite ordinary, quite plain, not as old as imagined, looking around 50 years old.
And after he took off the mask, his figure began to slowly dissolve into light particles. The old master seemed to realize something and smiled, "Looks like my time has come; it's time to leave."
"?" Annabelle and Old Barak were surprised, not expecting the old master Lovecraft to just leave like that.
"Goodbye then. I enjoyed this assignment very much; perhaps in the future, we'll meet again." The legendary investigator from a novel vanished into the Light, leaving one last remark, "Xue Dili, here's my commission fee. Feel free to seek me out next time opportunities arise."
The old master Lovecraft disappeared, vanishing as if he never existed.
The only thing left behind was a gargoyle-like mask, lingering in this world. The mask rose and floated gently toward the feet of Xue Dili, who turned around.
Picking up the gargoyle mask, Xue Dili's System Panel popped up with a scan.
[Face of the Faceless (A-Class): Wearing this mask, "anyone" won't be able to discern your true face. You can modify your appearance to any extent or disguise yourself as someone else.
Note: Limited to "facial appearance." If your habits or posture greatly differ from the mimicked one, you could still be exposed.]
Xue Dili glanced at it, a slight smile curling his lips. This functional type of Treasure was precisely what he needed. Though Fantasy Materialization could achieve more than 90% of these tasks, altering facial appearance with it would be like reshaping a face, requiring constant practice in face-modelling techniques.
Unfortunately, Xue Dili was not skilled at face-modelling when playing games, often opting for default or random appearance settings. If he were to model his face himself, it would probably look like an Ancient God's visage.
But this Faceless Mask provided him with a universal face-modelling library, also preventing others from detecting his true appearance.
Xue Dili donned the mask, choosing a white face-mask style, which perfectly fit his face, feeling natural, with no discomfort or suffocation, as if it was his real face.
"Pop."
The white mask affixed seamlessly, adapting perfectly to Xue Dili's face, making it feel as if the mask was a real face.
"Wow, such an underworld ghoul's face. Can't you choose a more Mortal World-style mask, like my favorite Ultraman or Masked Rider mask?" Annabelle commented, looking at the masked Xue Dili.
Xue Dili: "..."
What? Is a white mask that eerie? Perhaps he'd opt for an Ox-Head Horse-Face one, that'd surely be Underworld enough.
And after Annabelle's comment, a light slowly emerged from her body, and the little witch laughed after the initial surprise, "Oh wow, who would've thought a notorious Demon like me could become Light someday."
"What?" The only old Undead nearby with no signs of fading hurriedly said.
"It means the Evil Spirit's obsessions and wishes are completely satisfied, there's nothing left they want to do. In such cases, the Evil Spirit will slowly disappear. I'm probably in that state now," she scratched her head, saying embarrassingly.
"Well, that's good news. By the way, what was your wish?" the old Undead asked.
"To marry Brother Da Gu."
Old Barak: "..."
What on earth is this? Where did this nutjob come from?
Even though Old Barak isn't from this world, he knows that Da Gu is a character from this era, probably appearing in Ultraman about thirty years ago, and now is likely a man in his fifties or sixties.
And you are an Evil Spirit that existed before the last century, how could you have such an outlandish wish?
"Just kidding, but I really have to go now, it was indeed a pleasant journey," the little Witch completely transformed into Light, then she looked at Xue Dili and said slowly, "Hope to meet again in the future, my 'Brother Da Gu'..."
Xue Dili: "?"
Her last words were not spoken out loud, but mouthed in the Light.
So from the old Undead's perspective, he didn't see it and was still complaining incessantly.
What they didn't know is that there really is an "Annabelle Doll" in this world, it sits in the Supernatural Items Museum in Boston, where many strange items are displayed.
There are blood-stained scissors, a manuscript by good old Lovecraft himself, a rusty chainsaw, a hockey stick, and a clown's red nose... actually, many of those things are just props donated by supernatural enthusiasts, eventually turned into "supernatural items" for display.
Naturally, the Annabelle Doll is among those supernatural items.
Just today, during a staff inspection, they found the display cabinet that held the Annabelle Doll unlocked for unknown reasons, and the cursed doll fell on the floor, pointing forward with a single hand as if telling them not to stop.
"Is it someone's prank?" A staff member picked up the doll and locked it back in the display case.
Of course, that's another story.
Ultimately, of the three major Evil Spirits they summoned, only the old Undead remained, and unlike the other two local Evil Spirits, he was summoned through a connection with Xue Dili from the Otherworld.
Though throughout this battle he felt like he was having the time of his life, lying low the whole time, needing very little effort, and even managed to watch three or four other Ultraman stories along the way.
Moreover, he seemed to have fulfilled his former dream, transforming into the Light he always wanted to be, basking in delight and truly feeling fulfilled.
Looking at this world, though now a Guardian of his own world, to Blue Star, Old Barak always seemed to resemble a "white moonlight" kind of feeling.
In fact, he quite wanted to stay in this world without going back.
Like that man who lost his hometown, he felt the same way.
But after pulling himself together, he decided to return, after all, his little granddaughter was still on that side, at the very least he should bring his little granddaughter over if he wanted to come back.
As he contemplated, Light gradually emanated from him, as if signaling his time here was running out.
"Wait, wait, wait, I still have a lot of things to do..." Old Barak suddenly realized that his time in this world was limited, he immediately took out his phone left with only 1% battery, and said to Xue Dili,
"Xue, hurry up and fill this phone with power, oh, and also give me a charger, if convenient, give me the whole set of charging equipment!" the old Undead kept calling out.
Xue Dili: "?"
But he also breathed a sigh of relief, fortunately, this time the old man wasn't endlessly talking about his granddaughter, Da Gu, or other meaningless things. Actually, Xue Dili knew this guy always had the mindset of an old feudal grandparent.
And due to his age, this mindset was set in stone, belonging to those stubborn old Deng types.
If he forgot, that would be the best outcome.
Xue Dili immediately used Fantasy Manifestation to create a charger, a solar (hand-cranked) dual-charging power bank, saying, "I'll give the phone to you for free, take it with you to pass the time..."
"Hahaha, this feels great," said the old Undead vanishing from sight.
