My Life with Narration

Chapter 39: The Time Has Come When the Party and the People Need You

Actually, he didn't want to be a con artist, but there was no other way!

With his looks, setting up a fortune-telling stall on the street, even the old ladies wouldn't believe him. No wonder, with no hair on his lips, they say you can't do things well.

Fortune-tellers, no matter if they're accurate or not, at least need to have the look. If not a Taoist robe, at least they should have a compass or something like that.

But Su Qing, any sharp-eyed person could tell just by looking at him that this was a teenager who's read too many novels. The youthful look on his face wouldn't fool any old detectives, nor would it fool any HR during a company interview; they'd instantly see he's a recent college graduate.

And Feng Shui Divination? Come on, which officer would believe in that? Yan Lie and Lin Chengcai naturally didn't believe in it either, but what happened next shocked them both.

Time rewinds to five minutes earlier.

Faced with his inquiry, the two couldn't help but exchange a glance. Yan Lie let out a cold laugh and said, "Stop talking nonsense. If you don't come clean, and it turns out later you're involved in this case, you can forget about getting out for ten or eight years."

"Didn't you say you're into Feng Shui Divination? Go ahead, tell me my fortune. I'd like to see what crap you can come up with!"

As an experienced detective, he's handled so many cases he lost count. If he believed in this stuff, how could he solve cases?

But the next second, Su Qing's words left him astounded.

"Looking at Officer Yan's face, he seems to have no major illness or disaster recently. However, there's a cloud of gloom between the brows, indicating a strong liver fire and eyes showing a hint of killing intent, suggesting he's encountered something annoying. And Officer Yan's lean face belongs to the rooster sign, so he should stay away from dogs. Officer Yan, didn't you have a run-in with a dog this morning?"

At first, Yan Lie listened with disdain, thinking Su Qing didn't even know a few Taoist spells and was already pretending to be a mystic. But the last sentence made him freeze.

Because that morning, just as he was leaving the community, he got bitten by some unknown dog, and it was something absolutely no one else could know. Though it only tore his clothes, it did happen.

Beside them, Lin Chengcai naturally noticed his old partner's surprise and wondered if this kid really got it right?

However, before he could think further, Su Qing turned to him and continued, "Officer Lin here, your face shows a full and rounded forehead, clearly a sign of good fortune. The red on your forehead suggests... a new addition to the family!"

After saying this, even Su Qing felt a bit embarrassed because Lin Chengcai's forehead was obviously bitten by a mosquito, hence the redness.

Still, his words left Lin Chenghai at a loss. Though he was sure he believed in materialism, he regrettably started having his doubts.

Because his wife, Huaiyu, only recently suspected she was pregnant. She went to the hospital yesterday and only told him last night. Since Zhao Minghui's incident occurred that afternoon, he didn't get a chance to speak of it, yet Su Qing casually revealed it now.

Noticing Lin Chengcai's reaction, Yan Lie couldn't help but be surprised: "Old Lin, about sister-in-law..."

He didn't finish his sentence, but Lin Chengcai slowly nodded. Though surprised, both of them were seasoned detectives, and despite their shock, they were still skeptical of Feng Shui Divination, even after Su Qing's revelations.

The tricky part was that Su Qing left them with nothing to say; he claimed it was just fortune-telling, and they didn't believe it, but after his demonstration, they couldn't reasonably continue questioning him.

Afterwards, Yan Lie stepped out and relayed the information to Li Zijun, acknowledging there was nothing more they could do.

They investigated, they questioned, and there was no problem; they almost drove these two old detectives to a breakdown.

Upon hearing this, Li Zijun couldn't help but gape. Even if no strangers understood, having grown up with Su Qing, she'd know he was no Feng Shui Divination expert.

Bullshit Feng Shui Divination; it was one thing for him to use it as an excuse in private, but to spout such nonsense in the police station was intolerable.

"Brother Lin, let me tell you, from my point of view, sister-in-law must have recently found out she's pregnant. But brother, you're lucky; when the time comes, mother and child will be safe, so don't worry!"

Just when Su Qing was boasting to Lin Chengcai, the door burst open with a bang, startling the two inside.

Li Zijun stormed in and immediately saw a certain someone looking smug and Lin Chenghai with sweat on his forehead, and she was furious, yanking Su Qing's ear and scolding:

"I brought you here to tell fortunes? Stop playing psychic, or else I'll beat you up!"

The moment he saw Li Zijun, Su Qing knew he was in trouble, as expected.

"Ow ow ow, Sister Jun, I'm wrong, I'm wrong!"

"What's wrong with you?"

"I'm wrong all over!"

Seeing the interaction between the two, Lin Chengcai along with Yan Lie and Zhu Lili at the door seemed to uncover a major secret.

This dialogue was clearly that of a bickering couple, especially for Lin and Yan, earlier Su Qing was so defiant, now he was without his previous smugness.

"Still on about Feng Shui Divination? Okay, tell me, when will I have a disaster? I refuse to believe it!" Li Zijun squinted her eyes, increasing the pressure on his ear.

In pain, Su Qing hastily straightened up: "Sister Jun, let's talk this over, let go, let go!"

"Speak, if you don't clear things up today, I'll tell Auntie to deal with you." With that, she let go.

Having narrowly escaped, Su Qing sighed helplessly and then said: "Haven't you had daily disasters lately? That doesn't need calculating!"

Hearing this, Zhu Lili outside couldn't help but burst into laughter, and Li Zijun's expression turned red with anger, especially with Lin and Yan's curious gawking eyes, she abruptly lost her composure:

"Nonsense, it looks like you're itching for a thrashing, I'll give you one today!"

She raised her hand, ready to strike, but Su Qing swiftly dodged. Thankfully, Lin Chengcai intervened: "That's enough, Little Li. We've questioned him, indeed there's no problem. I think Old Zhao won't mind once he's out of the hospital, but the kid's fortune-telling is quite accurate, haha!"

Seeing this, Li Zijun had to relent, and she spat back: "He can't tell anything. If he could, we wouldn't have to work so hard to solve cases. Might as well ask him where Jiang Dabao hid the stuff, hmph."

[Jiang Dabao hid a large sum under a tree behind his old home, along with evidence of his confession]

[The chance to change your destiny has arrived again. Young man, the Party and the people need you now!]

Just as Li Zijun considered asking him to leave with her, Su Qing slowly spoke up:

"Why don't I go see if I can figure it out?"

Everyone: ???

No one expected him to suddenly suggest fortune-telling, especially since no one present actually believed him, despite Su Qing accurately stating Lin and Yan's experiences.

Upon hearing this, Li Zijun couldn't help but laugh: "We said you're pompous, and you prove it! Do you think you're a demigod? Tell me, what are you up to now?"

Su Qing felt a bit nervous under her gaze, but he still chuckled and replied: "Just as you said, as a good citizen and a recipient of the bravery award, I only want to... um, do my part!"
