Chef at the University Canteen

Chapter 66: Useless at Everything Except Eating

Lu Jinseng came suddenly and left quickly.

He stayed a little longer in Jiang Yu's small shop and, after eating a few more bites of Jiang Yu's chopped chili fish head, he left.

Although Lu Chunming was a little reluctant, since his father had gone, he could only leave with regret, taking a few servings of soup dumplings and saliva chicken along the way.

"Boss, don't worry, I will work hard in the future."

After sending his grandpa and dad out of the cafeteria, Lu Shuwu returned, looking at Jiang Yu with excitement written all over his face,

"I didn't expect the chopped chili fish head you made to be so delicious. Even my grandpa kept complimenting it. In the future, you have to teach me how to make this dish, okay?"

"Such a delicious dish, how can I teach it to you so casually?"

Before Jiang Yu could speak, Hu Zhihai, who was already stuffed, slumped in his seat, rubbing his stomach and humming,

"At the very least, you have to work like a horse and a cow for a year before we talk about it. Also, listen to instructions in the future. If you're chopping vegetables, don't go washing pots; if you're washing pots, don't go cleaning tables..."

"Shoo, shoo, go sit over there!"

Lu Shuwu, having no more worries, became much more lively, and he pouted disdainfully,

"You're a 'good-for-nothing except eating,' what business is it of yours?"

"You don't know that being able to eat is a blessing?"

Hu Zhihai scoffed and turned to look at Jiang Yu with a flattering smile,

"Lao Jiang, I haven't had enough of this fish head. When we close up tonight, can you also steam the fish pieces from the fridge?"

Just now, there were two large dishes of chopped chili fish head, and seven or eight people were fighting over them. Hu Zhihai was among the quick ones, and the big fish head Jiang Yu made allowed him to grab nearly half of it, eating until oil dripped from his mouth, euphorically exclaiming "satisfying!"

However, Boss Zhao's homemade chili paste was indeed spicy; his mouth and stomach were burning hot even now. He was somewhat worried whether the backdoor of his house would suffer later.

But then again, the chopped chili fish head that Jiang Yu made was just so delicious. Even though he was full now, he still yearned for a few more bites!

"You've just eaten your fill, and you're already thinking about what to eat tonight? Let's talk about it when evening comes."

Jiang Yu took out his phone to check the time. It was already past three, so he turned to Lu Shuwu,

"It's about time, we can start making the soup dumplings, otherwise, they won't be enough to sell tonight."

"Oh, okay."

Lu Shuwu responded and hurriedly followed him.

"Xiaoyan, you guys rest for a while first. Once you're rested, wash the unwashed steamers, bowls, and dishes, sterilize them, and once that's done, wash the vegetables too."

Seeing Jiang Yu and Lu Shuwu busy inside, Hu Zhihai couldn't bear to continue lounging around. He stood up and said to Yan Tongtong and the others who were still resting,

"I have to go to the library to study this afternoon, so decide on the division of labor among yourselves."

After saying that, he grabbed his bag from the corner and turned to leave.

At first, he had told his family he wanted to pursue a graduate degree. For the sake of the food Jiang Yu made, no matter how hard or tiring it was, he had to persist!

...

Jiangzhou University, Administration Building.

Teacher Xiong was busy with his work in the office when the landline on the desk suddenly rang.

He turned his head to glance at the caller ID; it was an internal line from the Logistics Support Department.

Teacher Xiong immediately became excited, quickly picking up the receiver:

"Hello, this is Xiong Bingsheng!"

A cheerful and bold voice came from the other end of the line:

"Hello! Mr. Xiong, this is Niu Wenlin. I heard you were looking for me a while ago?"

"Yes, yes, yes! Minister Niu, you're back from your trip?"

Xiong Bingsheng stood up from his chair, smiling as he said,

"A while ago, I went over to the logistics to discuss something with you, but my colleagues said you were on a business trip. Are you free now?

If you have time, I'll come over to you!"

"Sure, come over then. I just brought back some good tea from outside; let me treat you to some!"

"Haha! Alright, I'll be there soon!"

After hanging up the phone, Xiong Bingsheng tidied up the documents on the desk a bit and then quickly walked out of the office.

Ever since witnessing Jiang Yu's culinary skills in the cafeteria that night, he ran to the logistics department the next morning, intending to discuss with the Minister of Logistics, Niu Wenlin, hoping to help Jiang Yu secure a larger stall at the school through him.

He and Niu Wenlin started working at Jiangzhou University at the same time, coming from the same hometown and getting along well, so this minor matter within his authority shouldn't be an issue.

However, Xiong Bingsheng excitedly went there, only to return empty-handed.

He reached the logistics only to find no one there, and upon inquiry, discovered that Niu Wenlin had gone on a business trip, expected to return in several days.

For Xiong Bingsheng, this waiting period was torturous.

Since tasting Jiang Yu's food, every mealtime his mind inevitably recalled those delicious moments:

The soup dumplings that would gush out juice at a bite, the spicy and appetizing hot and sour soup, and the spicy, delectable, yet tender saliva chicken...

That wonderful taste seemed etched into his bones, impossible to forget.

In contrast, looking back at the food in the faculty canteen:

The overly fatty and greasy braised pork, the tough, dry, and fibrous chicken legs, and the stir-fried vegetables that clearly lacked oil...

No matter how you looked at it, they were unappetizing, making it hard to swallow.

There were several times when Xiong Bingsheng almost couldn't resist and planned to rush to Jiang Yu's shop for a feast.

But as a school teacher, if he repeatedly went to a student shop for free meals, where would his dignity go?

Even merely to maintain the decorum of being a teacher, he couldn't go.

Now that Niu Wenlin finally returned, how could he not be thrilled?

Hastily exiting the Administration Building, Xiong Bingsheng didn't stop for a moment, heading straight to the logistics office.

Arriving at the office of the Minister of Logistics, Niu Wenlin had just brewed some tea.

Seeing Xiong Bingsheng's hurried appearance, as if something urgent had happened, he passed the tea to him while curiously asking:

"Lao Bear, you seem like you're in a rush, did something significant happen?"

"You said 'significant,' of course, it's significant!"

Familiar with him, Xiong Bingsheng didn't stand on ceremony, taking the tea and drinking it down in three swigs, sat down comfortably in the chair opposite, let out a pleasant sigh, and said with a smile,

"In this world, nothing's bigger than eating! You tell me, isn't a matter concerning food a major one?"

"Eating is indeed major, but when it comes to you, it depends on the circumstances."

Niu Wenlin, seeing his relaxed expression, guessed it wasn't anything serious and relaxed himself, jokingly saying,

"I see that you don't seem too anxious now, so it must be a minor issue.

I just returned today; let's set aside minor issues and have a good drink together in a while."

"Hey, we've got plenty of time for drinks, but this is indeed a major issue!"

Upon hearing this, Xiong Bingsheng became anxious.

He had waited for so long, and now it's being postponed again?

If it got delayed any further, he'd almost develop anorexia!
