Chef at the University Canteen

Chapter 81: Just When You Need a Pillow Someone Brings One

"Boss, the National Day is approaching. Are we going to operate during the holiday?"

It was just past breakfast time, and the store was not as busy as before. Lu Shuwu sat at the counter, slowly making soup dumplings while glancing at Jiang Yu, who was sitting beside him. He couldn't help but twitch his eyelids.

"National Day, huh, are you feeling homesick?"

Jiang Yu held a white radish in one hand and a knife in the other, carefully carving something into the radish with the tip of the knife.

While he was busy carving, he continued to chat with Lu Shuwu,

"If you're feeling homesick, just go home for a few days. I'll see how it goes; I might also make a trip back home."

The soup dumpling shop had been open for almost a month. Although they hadn't settled the ingredient costs with Boss Zhao yet, Hu Zhihai had paid the shop's rent and deposit in advance. Besides, the salaries of Lu Shuwu and Yan Tongtong had not been finalized, and there were other miscellaneous expenses like water, electricity, and gas.

Jiang Yu hadn't had the time to determine the exact costs yet, but after roughly estimating in his mind, he concluded that making around two hundred thousand yuan in the entire month of September was absolutely no problem.

The ingredient costs with Boss Zhao, along with the salaries of Lu Shuwu and others, and utility bills, had to be settled. There was no hurry to pay back Hu Zhihai for the rent and deposit, as he wasn't in urgent need of money.

Jiang Yu was thinking about taking advantage of the National Day holiday to return home and pay off a part of the family debt to lighten the burden that had been pressing on his grandma's frail shoulders for years.

Alternatively, he thought of waiting for the approval from the school regarding the entrepreneurial discount application, using that money to acquire a little property, expanding and running the shop until he made enough money to clear all the family debts at once, allowing his grandma to easily shake off that heavy burden.

Jiang Yu wasn't exactly sure how much debt the family owed because his grandma never wanted him to know. She just wanted to repay the debt herself, leaving an easy future for her grandson.

However, he wasn't stupid. Through some clues here and there, he guessed that the debt wasn't small, perhaps between seven to eight hundred thousand yuan, with over ten creditors.

This debt had persisted over the years. Even though his grandma hadn't repaid much, she paid something every year, so the creditors never came knocking on their door.

Probably, they knew it wasn't easy for the old lady, who at such an age still needed to scavenge every day to repay her late son and daughter-in-law's debt, which was quite pitiful indeed.

"Oh, sounds good. I'll tell my little sister tonight so she can come with me."

Lu Shuwu didn't know what Jiang Yu was thinking as he watched the radish in Jiang Yu's hand slowly transform into a pure, crystalline lotus flower. His heart felt like a dead pond, without any ripples.

Jiang Yu's knife skills were improving faster than an airplane, rivaling the Shenzhou 13 rocket. What more could he say?

He already accepted that he was an ordinary person, so comparing himself to a genius was just asking for trouble!

As he thought about this, he sighed and said,

"I'm not going home because I'm homesick. It's just that my grandpa is getting older, and I always make him angry like a child. This time, I should accompany him and make him happy."

"Yeah, you should definitely spend some time with him."

Jiang Yu nodded and placed the radish lotus flower onto a plate with a long breath out.

He decided he would go home for National Day.

Even if he couldn't afford to acquire the little property now, what did it matter?

The little shop at the second cafeteria was making money every day too, albeit less.

Besides, if not for that little property, there would be more opportunities for bigger stalls later on, and he could switch then.

After all, nothing was more important than making life easier for his grandma.

How long could she wait for him?

He smiled at Lu Shuwu and said,

"Since we're both leaving, let's just close the shop for the National Day holiday from the 1st to the 6th, and be back by the 7th to resume work."

"Good, that's generous of you, boss!"

Lu Shuwu chuckled and continued,

"But I do have a small request. Could the boss make a little more of the Sichuan chicken and soup dumplings on the day I leave so I can take them back for my grandpa to try?"

"With your grandpa's skills, his cooking is better than mine!"

Jiang Yu glanced at him, huffing lightly, "I bet you want them for yourself, not your grandpa."

"Hehe, I'm craving them, and my grandpa will try them too!"

"We'll see. If time allows, I'll make them for you."

As they were chatting, Yan Tongtong, who was busy cleaning outside, suddenly called out:

"Boss, someone's looking for you!"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yu put down the radish he had just picked up, stood up, and walked out.

He reached the front to see Xiong Bingsheng standing outside the window, excitedly calling out:

"Boss Xiao Jiang, the entrepreneurial discount application you submitted has been approved by the school leadership!"

"Really? That's fantastic news!"

Overjoyed, Jiang Yu quickly opened the store door and invited Xiong Bingsheng inside to sit down. He took out a clean cup from the cabinet, brewed some tea for him, then sat down, full of anticipation, and asked,

"Teacher Xiong, what specific benefits does the school approval entail?"

"I brought the documents with me. You can read them yourself."

Xiong Bingsheng was also quite excited. He had come running all the way and was a bit parched.

He picked up the tea Jiang Yu had brewed, blew on it, took a sip, and then took a document out of his pocket, handing it over while laughing,

"I've always told you that the school leadership highly supports student entrepreneurship. Look, isn't it true now?"

"Thanks to you, Teacher Xiong. Without your efforts, this wouldn't have been finalized so quickly."

Jiang Yu said gratefully as he took the document and began reading it carefully.

After reading through the document thoroughly, he felt a surge of excitement:

The school was exceptionally supportive and encouraging of student entrepreneurship!

The school had introduced seven preferential policies in support of university students' entrepreneurship.

Among these, the policies included special arrangements for classes and accommodation so that entrepreneurship wouldn't affect academics. It also included support with funding and manpower.

Most importantly, the site support for entrepreneurship, which Jiang Yu cared about, was also included.

The policy stated that the school would provide entrepreneurial space either at a discounted rate or for free, offering students a place and environment for entrepreneurial training.

What Jiang Yu needed most right now was precisely the space!

It was exactly like wanting to sleep, and someone offers you a pillow!
