Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 109: Invitation

The annual Freshman Throne Competition is undoubtedly the most eye-catching event of the year at Red Cloud University.

On this day, new students from all over, the Twelve Base Cities, major families and consortiums, as well as students from civilian backgrounds, will showcase their talents and strengths to the fullest.

Whether they are students or teachers, even the school leadership will be present to watch.

Red Cloud University, with over 17,000 freshmen competing for one hundred seats, means that only one out of every 170 people will have a seat; the rest will have to obediently stand.

The higher the ranking position, the fiercer the competition, making it extremely captivating. As for the First Throne, it not only represents glory and privilege, but its rewards drive freshmen mad with desire.

This is not just a competition among students, but also a stage for families and consortiums to demonstrate their strength for the first time.

The group of five led by Lin Feng wandered around the campus, hearing discussions about this event everywhere they went.

"Half-beastman Yun Kai?"

Due to Yun Kai, Lin Feng and his group were the center of attention wherever they went. Everyone knew the names of the three of them, regardless of acquaintance. However, no one asked for autographs, as the talents of those admitted to Red Cloud were quite gifted and had their own pride, not easily idolizing anyone.

"Always on edge in the Otherworld, eating and sleeping in the open, I was hoping to get a good night's sleep at Red Cloud, but who knew it would be so miserable!"

"Are we really camping in tents tonight? What if there are bugs?"

"If we're staying in tents, we might as well go out and stay at a hotel. I'll treat, and we can have a late-night snack too."

"Those tents are new, but they smell like paint. I hope there's no formaldehyde in them!"

In the Otherworld, Dong Yunan had been silent due to tension and fear, but as a chatterbox, she hadn't stopped talking since entering the campus.

She started talking from the city gate of Red Cloud, then about the campus environment and buildings, occasionally mixing in her homesickness, and finally complaining about the tent where they would stay the night.

Dong Yunan was very resistant to sleeping in a tent. In her view, in this hot weather, it's impossible to sleep comfortably inside a tent at night.

"Why stay in a hotel? We will often visit the Otherworld. Staying overnight there, even sleeping in a tent is a luxury, let alone a peaceful sleep," Lin Feng patted Dong Yunan's head, mildly reprimanding her.

This was also what Dong Xiuxian specifically instructed him before leaving.

Talent signifies speed in cultivation but doesn't mean one can live longer.

Compared to ordinary people, geniuses are naturally more valuable.

Yet, every year numerous geniuses die in the Otherworld or the wild, and those who don't grow up are meaningless.

Dong Xiuxian earnestly instructed Lin Feng to protect Dong Yunan's safety, but also to let her endure hardships, teaching her how to survive in the Otherworld.

Only the strong know that sometimes survival skills are more important than talent!

As Dong Xiuxian's only daughter, Dong Yunan was pampered from a young age, living in a villa with every luxury, so it's normal for her to be unused to this. Even Yang Fan wasn't used to it, but as a guy, he wasn't as particular and, even if he were, he wouldn't dare complain in front of Lin Feng.

"I was just saying, this is school after all!" Dong Yunan lowered her head, explaining sheepishly, but soon her eyes lit up: "How about a barbecue tonight? Let's call it an outdoor activity."

After speaking, she glanced at Lin Feng, whose face remained expressionless, with no reaction.

"Kai, do you have any objections?"

Afraid to ask too much, unsure why she was a bit scared of Lin Feng, Dong Yunan patted Yun Kai, only reaching his arm due to her height.

In the Jianghu Martial Arts Club, her relationship with Yun Kai was the best, and only Yun Kai could endure her non-stop chatter for long, seemingly enjoying it.

As for Yang Fan and Gao Hai, they followed Lin Feng's lead entirely, without their own opinions, so she ignored them completely, not bothering to ask.

"I have no objections," Yun Kai looked down at Dong Yunan, who winked at him, smiling slightly and speaking sparingly.

Dong Yunan nodded in satisfaction, patting Yun Kai's arm again in encouragement.

"Brother Feng, Kai has no objections, do you?"

"Are you sure Kai has no objections?"

Lin Feng shook his head, somewhat speechless. If you ask this way, of course, Yun Kai will say he has no objections. You've used this little trick so many times, do you really think I don't know?

"How about you ask Kai?" Dong Yunan tilted her head, looking innocent.

"Alright then," Lin Feng didn't want to ruin the mood, so he agreed.

"Yay!"

Dong Yunan cheered, pleased.

Though they hadn't known each other long and hadn't interacted much, she discovered that Lin Feng was always firm with her, Yang Fan, and Gao Hai. Meanwhile, Yun Kai never voiced his thoughts, but as long as he agreed, Lin Feng would almost never object.

Lin Feng was very indulgent with Yun Kai.

"Lin Feng, are you interested in joining our team?"

While Lin Feng and his group were getting familiar with the campus, five people approached them slowly. Leading them was a young man holding a long sword. He skipped any small talk and directly introduced the strengths of their team of five.

"Sorry, we have our own mercenary team,"

Lin Feng interrupted him, directly declining. Along the way, fifteen people had already invited them, some even with greater strength than this team, including Fourth Grade Martial Artist and Third Grade Demon Spirit Master existences.

Having been declined, the young man wasn't bothered but instead changed the topic: "Dong Yunan, as long as you join our team, I guarantee you'll break through to become a Martial Artist within half a year!"

Whether Lin Feng and Yun Kai would join was indifferent to him.

Admittedly, having an adventure team with Lin Feng and Yun Kai as freshmen would surely be top-notch, but for adventure teams formed by second- and third-year students, the two of them are more of a burden.

While Dong Yunan was weaker, as a Therapist, her strength was secondary to a team; as long as she could release Healing Technique, that was enough.

And Dong Yunan, having refined the Eighth Grade Sea Demoness, had a Demon Spirit's talent ability of Healing Technique.

Dong Yunan shook her head, standing beside Lin Feng, indicating her stance. The young man wasn't discouraged, offering further benefits. Seeing Dong Yunan unmoved, he didn't get angry but politely said a few words before leaving.

"Our Little Sister Dong is indeed popular, a real heartthrob among thousands!" Gao Hai laughed.

He had observed that most who invited them along the way were aiming for Little Sister Dong, while Lin Feng and Yun Kai were merely incidental.

"Of course, do you not see who I am?"

Dong Yunan deliberately displayed a smug expression.

As for breaking through to Martial Artist within half a year, she wasn't really interested.

Joining a strong adventure team would provide more security, potentially speeding up initial strength gains, but would lack the necessary training, doing more harm than good. She understood this logic clearly.

Moreover, Dong Yunan didn't believe that following Lin Feng would slow her cultivation speed.

Besides, her goal was the National College Glory Battle; finishing in the top three could yield rewards even her father's influence couldn't buy.

She was determined to stick with Lin Feng and Yun Kai!
