Doctor: Picking Up Attributes in the Hospital

Chapter 154: Blossoming Along the Way

7:00 in the evening.

Zhao Heng sat alone in the office, tonight was a night shift.

"Dr. Zhao, coffee."

Zhao Heng was sitting, Tian Zhen brought over a cup of coffee, it looked like it was takeout.

"Hmm, thank you."

Zhao Heng nodded, on night shifts at the hospital, coffee was essential.

In other hospitals, night shifts might allow for intermittent rest, but at Eastern Hospital, a night shift basically meant staying up all night.

Given the current strain on medical resources, Zhao Heng estimated he'd be getting busier and busier.

"Is this from that hand-crafted coffee place?"

Zhao Heng just took a sip and could tell; this coffee was the one he drank most often.

"Yep, I saw Man Ni order it and just followed suit."

Tian Zhen nodded, she herself was drinking a bottle of soda; too much coffee wasn't good for a girl's skin.

"Your uncle got admitted to the hospital, right?"

Zhao Heng asked again.

"Yes, he's admitted, Dr. Li is overseeing his bed."

Tian Zhen nodded and said.

To be honest, even though she worked in the operating room, arranging an admission like this, and even getting it overseen by the most senior oncologist, Dr. Li Haiyang, wasn't something she had the connections for.

The most Tian Zhen could do was perhaps book an appointment in advance in some less busy departments; she couldn't cut the line.

Frankly, she was just a nurse, these department doctors might not pay much attention to her.

But Zhao Heng was different, now all the surgeons knew if they encountered a high-risk surgery, having Zhao Heng handle the anesthesia significantly increased safety.

Plus, with Gao Jun's connections, Zhao Heng's reputation at Eastern Hospital was quite substantial now.

"That's good; surgeries have been fully booked lately, the soonest will be next week."

Zhao Heng nodded and said.

Surgeries that have been scheduled cannot be postponed for patients, so scheduling the soonest means three days later, next week.

This shows that there are many people seeking Zhao Heng specifically for epidural analgesia implants.

However, even if Zhao Heng worked himself to death, the surgeries he could perform were just a drop in the ocean for the vast population of late-stage cancer patients.

"Getting scheduled for next week is already quite good."

Tian Zhen said.

"Sister Tian, how did you and Man Ni become good friends? You see, your personalities are totally different."

There was some downtime now, drinking hand-crafted coffee with nothing to do, they just chatted casually.

"You mean Man Ni? Her personality is indeed quite strong, maybe we complement each other."

Tian Zhen thought about it and said.

Xu Man Ni already had a strong personality; if her personality were also strong, two strong-willed people couldn't be friends.

If they quarrel upon meeting, how could they get along?

"Actually, people are quite envious of you and Man Ni."

After a pause, Tian Zhen sighed and said.

"Envious? What's there to be envious of, if I were still just a scrub nurse, would anyone be envious?"

Zhao Heng casually revealed the truth; he never cared much for others' opinions.

Especially since he started at Eastern Hospital as just a low-level scrub nurse.

"Someone will always see the good in you, isn't Man Ni one of them."

Tian Zhen smiled and said.

Listening to Tian Zhen's words, Zhao Heng was noncommittal, he and Xu Man Ni developed the right kind of relationship at the right time, and naturally ended up together.

The key among all this was being suitable.

Some things can't be said too clearly, especially with Tian Zhen.

Tian Zhen was always Xu Man Ni's close friend.

Seeing Zhao Heng suddenly fall silent, Tian Zhen suddenly understood a bit.

Yeah, when Zhao Heng was just a scrub nurse, no one looked up to him, let alone dated him.

Climbing his way up from the bottom, Zhao Heng understood the nature of some things more clearly than anyone.

This is reality, there's no such thing as modest acquaintances or staying through thick and thin, let alone growing together.

"Dr. Zhao, do you want to eat something? I noticed you haven't eaten dinner."

Tian Zhen wisely changed the subject and asked Zhao Heng.

"Hmm, anything's fine."

Zhao Heng nodded, today was another day without dinner, which was pretty normal for doctors.

Not eating all day was something Zhao Heng often experienced too.

After all, once a surgery starts, it's like going to battle, no time to stop for a meal.

"I'll see to it then."

Tian Zhen said.

With that, she left the doctor's office and went to the nurses' station.

Once at the nurses' station, Tian Zhen noticed the other nurses watching her intentionally or not.

After all, Zhao Heng was Xu Man Ni's boyfriend, and Tian Zhen was Xu Man Ni's close friend, yet the two were on a night shift together.

Some gossipers might already be spinning tales.

However, Tian Zhen didn't care what others said.

Being on shift with Zhao Heng was arranged by Gao Jun, considering Tian Zhen's strong professional ability to assist Zhao Heng well in surgery.

"Look at those gossipers."

Sun Li walked over, disdainfully glancing at the other nurses whispering together, and remarked to Tian Zhen.

"Should I just go tear their mouths apart?"

Tian Zhen laughed and said.

"Should I talk to Director Gao and change your shift?"

Sun Li suddenly suggested.

Some things don't need to be said too clearly.

"No need, I think I work well with Dr. Zhao."

Tian Zhen shook her head slightly and said.

"Then I'll take half of your shifts."

Sun Li looked at Tian Zhen, giving her an undeniable look.

Taking half of the shifts means that half of the days Tian Zhen was on duty with Zhao Heng would be swapped for Sun Li.

This Sun Li had a personality completely different from Xu Man Ni and Tian Zhen.

Sun Li had an extremely cold demeanor, seemingly uninterested in anything.

Many nurses in the operating room gossiped in private that she was a lesbian because of her cold-to-the-bone aloofness and her indifferent attitude towards any men.

"No need to change, more talk will arise with others."

Tian Zhen still rejected Sun Li's shift change suggestion.

"You..."

Sun Li had been testing Tian Zhen, but she indeed sensed something was up and began to sigh.

"I know my limits."

Tian Zhen gently smiled and said.

"Your uncle got admitted to the hospital, right?"

Sun Li asked again with concern.

She was the type who was cold on the outside but warm on the inside with friends she cared about.

"Yeah, Dr. Zhao arranged it."

Tian Zhen nodded.

"He's really influential now, thinking back to two months ago, he was just a scrub nurse who didn't dare to speak loudly in front of us."

Sun Li commented with a bit of emotion.

As indifferent as she was, she found Zhao Heng's rapid rise quite incredible.

"Don't keep mentioning scrub nurse stuff, he's not that anymore."

Tian Zhen said.

"Alright, alright, Man Ni said the same thing."

Sun Li waved her hand and said.
