Doctor: Picking Up Attributes in the Hospital

Chapter 254: Zhao Heng on the Offensive

10 PM.

"It's about time, we all have work tomorrow, let's call it a night."

Liu Ziang checked the time, it was already 10 o'clock. Everyone here was a doctor, and although there were no surgeries scheduled for tomorrow, they still had to work. Showing up at work reeking of alcohol wouldn't be good. They were all just after a mildly tipsy feeling anyway.

"Alright."

Li Haiyang nodded. In truth, young people love to have fun, but due to work, they rarely have such opportunities. Today, with Liu Ziang treating them, it was a small chance to unwind.

In a way, it's quite a pity. While other young folks can enjoy lively nights, doctors have very little leisure time like this.

"Okay."

Zhao Heng nodded, looking at his phone. Xu Man Ni had already sent him her third WeChat message asking when he'd be back.

"Let's leave it at that, everyone head home, and we'll gather again another time when we're free."

Liu Ziang straightforwardly wrapped things up.

Fifteen minutes later, Zhao Heng, slightly tipsy, arrived at Xu Man Ni's home.

As soon as he walked in, Zhao Heng saw Xu Man Ni in her pajamas, sitting in the living room, seemingly waiting for him.

"You're back."

Seeing Zhao Heng return, Xu Man Ni immediately stood up to greet him.

"Yeah, you should get some rest. We both have work tomorrow."

Seeing Xu Man Ni waiting for him, Zhao Heng felt an inexplicable warmth.

"I'm off tomorrow."

Xu Man Ni smiled and said.

Actually, she was quite at ease with Zhao Heng going out with Liu Ziang and Li Haiyang. In her view, Zhao Heng was indeed too tense usually. Besides work, his resting time was surprisingly scarce.

Soon, Zhao Heng changed into his pajamas, did a quick freshen-up, and since neither of them were sleepy yet, they sat on the sofa, watching TV and chatting.

"Didn't expect the director to be ousted so quickly."

Zhao Heng said to Xu Man Ni, who was leaning against him.

Though he'd already marveled several times today, Zhao Heng still felt that things were changing too fast.

"It's not just you; even Gao didn't see it coming. You could say it's karma at work."

Xu Man Ni agreed.

She hadn't been idle that day either, being in the same faction as Gao Jun. She had done many things Zhao Heng didn't know about.

"It really caught Gao off guard; a lot of arrangements that were set up now have to be redone."

Pausing for a moment, Xu Man Ni continued.

"Being a leader carries many risks. It's better to focus on working well."

Zhao Heng had witnessed it; while being a leader could be glamorous, the fall could be quite devastating.

"True, just focus on honing your skills. That path is actually quite promising."

Xu Man Ni wholeheartedly agreed.

In fact, she hoped Zhao Heng would concentrate on his skills. With his talent and potential, he'd surely become one of Eastern Hospital's top specialists before turning thirty. A doctor's career is long, which means he'd be set for life, increasingly in demand as time goes on.

"It's getting late now; let's get some rest."

After chatting for a while and feeling the tipsiness set in, Zhao Heng suggested to Xu Man Ni.

"Didn't you drink a lot today?"

Xu Man Ni asked.

"Just a little, just tipsy."

Of course, Zhao Heng wouldn't drink excessively. As a doctor, he disliked the kind of drinking that leads to getting drunk and losing shape. It's unhealthy, harms the body, and on some level, it's embarrassing too.

"I still feel a bit restless."

Xu Man Ni suddenly said.

Hearing her say that, Zhao Heng seemed to understand her underlying message. Right on cue, in his tipsy state, he felt quite in tune.

"What do you want?"

Zhao Heng intentionally asked.

"Oh, you know."

Xu Man Ni coyly replied.

...

Another beautiful night.

Next day.

6 AM.

Zhao Heng woke up early. Last night had been intense, and Xu Man Ni was still sound asleep.

Looking at Xu Man Ni lying next to him, Zhao Heng felt very content. A few months ago, he wouldn't have dared to dream of such a life.

Yet suddenly, Zhao Heng felt that maybe this life was missing something.

Perhaps their own home?

Maybe, but it seemed like something else was amiss.

As Zhao Heng pondered, Xu Man Ni woke up.

"You're awake, rest a bit more."

Zhao Heng smiled and said to the drowsy Xu Man Ni.

"No more sleep, I'm off work today anyway."

Xu Man Ni sat up, putting on her pajama robe.

"Why don't I take the day off too? We could go somewhere for a stroll. I suddenly don't feel like going to work today."

Zhao Heng unexpectedly said.

"That's fine, but what's up with you?"

Xu Man Ni nodded, slightly worried seeing Zhao Heng deep in thought, unsure if something was bothering him.

This current life was as satisfying to Xu Man Ni as it was to Zhao Heng. For her, Zhao Heng was everything she ever wanted, but she knew he was still young. Though more mature than many peers, young men could sometimes be swept away by sudden dreams.

Xu Man Ni wondered if Zhao Heng suddenly had some unfulfilled dream and decided to chase it regardless. That would be a significant loss for her.

"Nothing, just want to spend time with you today."

Zhao Heng said.

He indeed felt that since he'd been with Xu Man Ni, he hadn't taken the time to properly be with her, although she never complained.

"So where do you want to go?"

Xu Man Ni asked, relieved.

"We don't have to go anywhere specific, just staying cuddled at home all day is okay too."

Zhao Heng smiled and said.

With that, he started to take action.

"Oh, I haven't even brushed my teeth or taken a shower."

Xu Man Ni exclaimed.

"It's fine, a morning workout is good for health."

10 AM.

Xu Man Ni lay exhausted and said to Zhao Heng, "I can't cook today, just order takeout."

She couldn't figure out why Zhao Heng was different today; he seemed unlike his usual self, perhaps something had stirred him.

"Now you can't complain I didn't spend time with you."

Zhao Heng said smugly.

"This isn't the way to keep me company. My waist is about to break."

Xu Man Ni complained.

Even though she was complaining, she was quite satisfied. After all, being in her early thirties, it was when her needs were at their peak.

This was truly the prime age met with the prime you.

"It's because you're so charming."

Zhao Heng said.

"Do you think I should get some cosmetic treatments? I feel there are fine lines on my face."

Talking about charm, Xu Man Ni suddenly asked.

"No need, you still look younger than some girls."

Zhao Heng said.

"You're sweet, but I still want to try it."

Xu Man Ni laughed and said.
