Sage sighed softly and glanced at the Adventurers forming a line in front of the desk to have their missions processed.
He nodded at the first person and began stamping their Mission Dockets. It wasn't tiring work; he simply had to apply his stamp, and that was it.
"Hey, what missions did you all decide to tackle?" Gregor asked Brutus and the others standing beside him.
"I took on two Beast Subjugation Missions," Brutus replied with a hearty laugh, his face lighting up with excitement. "They're both 2-Star Missions, and the rewards are quite substantial!"
Gregor thought for a moment before nodding. "That sounds great! With your strength, you'll complete them in no time."
Calista playfully waved her Mission Dockets, giggling softly as she chimed in. "I only took two Retrieval Missions, one is to find some rare herbs, and the other is to extract blood essence from a 3rd Order Common Beast. The reward is hefty; it amounts to my salary for three months!"
Gregor raised an eyebrow in surprise but nodded approvingly. "That's impressive! Just be careful with that 3rd Order Common Beast; it's dangerous."
Calista covered her mouth and giggled again, giving him a teasing glance. "Are you worried about me?"
Gregor rolled his eyes dismissively. "Who's worried about you? I'm just looking out for your well-being."
Without waiting for her response, he turned his attention to Caelis and Leona. "What about you two? What missions did you accept?"
Caelis exchanged a glance with Leona before responding calmly. "We both took an Escort Mission to protect a small merchant group traveling to Riverdell City and back. We also accepted two additional missions that can be completed along the way."
Leona smiled as she added, "The reward for the Escort Mission is over a thousand gold coins! We'll split it among ourselves once we finish our tasks."
"Fantastic! That's really good news," Gregor said with a smile, pleased that all of his friends had taken on missions with such promising rewards.
He then adopted a serious expression. "Since you've all accepted these missions, take them seriously. Complete them as quickly as possible without clashing with the Commissioners. If anything goes wrong, report it directly to the Guildmaster."
Brutus and the others nodded solemnly in agreement.
Time passed quickly, and within five minutes Sage finished processing all the missions. The newly registered Adventurers tucked away their Dockets and exited the Guild Hall while chatting animatedly.
"You guys go ahead and complete your missions," Gregor told Brutus and the others. "I have my own tasks to tackle. Let's meet back here when we're done."
"Okay!" they replied in unison.
"Just be careful out there," Gregor added with concern etched on his face. "If you sense danger, don't hesitate, just run."
"Okay, we hear you! Don't worry, this isn't our first dangerous journey," Brutus said, giving Gregor a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
"Yeah, we'll be careful. Just make sure you take care of yourself too," Caelis added with a soft chuckle.
Gregor smiled faintly and rubbed his nose, thinking to himself, "I guess I'm worrying too much. They can handle themselves."
"Alright then, we're off!" Brutus and the others waved goodbye to Gregor as they exited the Guild Hall.
Gregor snapped back to reality and returned their wave with a gentle smile.
"Looks like someone is quite concerned about his friends," Sage's voice drifted into Gregor's ears, instantly dampening his mood. He turned to glare at Sage.
"What do you mean 'children'? They're my best friends!" Gregor crossed his arms in annoyance.
Sage chuckled softly and relaxed his shoulders before speaking in a gentler tone. "You seem pretty worried about them."
Gregor fell silent for a moment, glancing toward the entrance before shaking his head with a warm smile. "Yeah, aside from my sister, those four are my family now. I can't help but worry about them."
Sage raised an eyebrow at Gregor's expression and tapped lightly on the table. "What happened to your parents?"
At that question, pain flickered across Gregor's face as he fell silent and stared blankly ahead.
Seeing the change in Gregor's demeanor, Sage facepalmed internally. "Great job opening old wounds."
He looked at Gregor and quickly added, "Forget what I just asked."
Gregor shook himself out of his daze and met Sage's gaze with gratitude shining in his eyes.
"Guildmaster Sage! I'm back!" Just then an excited voice burst through the entrance as a figure rushed toward them.
Both Sage and Gregor turned to see who it was; confusion clouded Gregor's face while Sage smiled upon recognizing him.
The newcomer wore simple yet worn clothes with bushy hair that seemed unkempt but had eyes sparkling with excitement, this was naturally Pax.
"Hey Pax! Long time no see! How have you been?" Sage greeted him warmly with a wave.
"Hahaha!" Pax laughed loudly as he waved back at Sage. "I've been great! In fact, these past three days have been the best of my life!"
"That's wonderful to hear," Sage replied with a nod.
"Ahem..." A soft voice interrupted their conversation.
Pax turned toward the source of the cough and was puzzled to find a green-haired guy sitting there with arms crossed, studying him intently.
"Oh right! Pax, this is Gregor, the very first adventurer registered here," Sage said while pointing at Gregor.
Then he turned to Gregor: "And green hair this is is Pax, a very good buddy of mine."
"Nice to meet you!" Pax extended his hand for a handshake.
"Nice to meet you too." Gregor extended his hand, and they exchanged a firm handshake.
"I'm sure you've heard the buzz around town about Cassian Thaumas being here," Sage said, leaning back in his chair.
"Yeah, I've caught wind of that," Gregor replied with a calm nod.
"Well, that's all thanks to Pax. He's the one spreading the news; he has quite the talent for rumors," Sage chuckled softly.
Gregor looked at Pax with curiosity, surprised by this revelation.
"Hahaha... I was just doing my job, that's all," Pax said, waving his hand dismissively.
Sage shook his head as he opened a drawer.
"Well, Guildmaster, since you have important matters to attend to, I better get going. I need to wrap up my missions and fulfill my end of our deal," Gregor said as he stood up. He flexed his fingers slightly, the soft clank of his armor echoing as he made his way toward the entrance.
Without looking up, Sage waved him off nonchalantly. "Yeah, yeah, I never wanted you here anyway."
Gregor's lips twitched at this remark. He rubbed his nose and waved back before finally stepping out.
Pax watched Gregor leave with wide-eyed curiosity before taking a seat himself.
Sage closed the drawer and placed ten gold coins on the table, sliding them toward Pax.
Pax's eyes lit up at the sight of the shiny coins in front of him. Trembling with excitement and gratitude, he looked at Sage.
"Thank you! You really helped me a lot," Pax said after a moment, his voice slightly shaky.
"No need to thank me; this is just payment for your hard work," Sage replied with a soft chuckle.
Pax laughed lightly, but his eyes were suspiciously bright. He carefully stacked the coins, his calloused fingers, marked by years of hauling crates and scrubbing floors, tracing their smooth edges with something like reverence.
He carefully tucked the ten gold coins into his pocket, clutching it tightly as if afraid they might vanish.
Watching him, Sage couldn't help but shake his head in amusement. Pax truly knew how to excel at what he did. If he were back on Earth, he'd make an excellent salesman or marketing professional.
A thought crossed Sage's mind as he looked at Pax; a smile crept onto his lips.
"Hey Pax, do you want to take this to the next level?"
Pax looked up at Sage with a puzzled expression. "What do you mean?"
