I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!

Chapter 145: The First step

By the time an hour had passed, the rumor had mutated with the speed of a lab-grown virus.

What started as 'he's from the lowest floor' had evolved into 'he's the original architect of the prison who got bored and locked himself in his creation'.

Another version claimed he was locked in this prison because he had killed a noble from the Ancient Planets. There were even rumors that he himself was from ancient planets.

Leo, leaning against the damp pillar, could feel the heavy gaze of several hundred inmates. He didn't look back. To look back was to acknowledge them as equals.

Instead, he stared intensely at a crack in the floor as if he were contemplating some universe shaking secret, while in reality, he was trying to remember if he'd packed the spicy dipping sauce for his frozen chicken wings.

The atmosphere shifted. The noise of prisoner chatter died down, replaced by the sound of cold footsteps.

A path cleared through the sea of prisoners. The three-eyed giant returned, looking like a tamed puppy, trailing behind a figure who was, to Leo's slight surprise, not a giant at all.

The man was lean, wearing a prisoner uniform that had been tailored with such precision it looked like high fashion. He had silver skin, which created stark contrast with his pitch black eyes.

He was only a foot or so taller than Leo,l. He held a small piece of crystal in his hand, that he was playing with on his way here.

"So," the silver man said, stopping five feet from Leo. His voice was smooth, cultured, and entirely too calm for a prisoner that was called the boss.

"You're the person that supposedly came from the lowest floor, the man of all the rumours?" He had to look down on Leo who was sitting on the ground.

"My friend says you can block the collar?" He asked. "That shouldn't be possible."

"A lot of things shouldn't be possible for people of your calibre," Leo replied, finally opening one eye to look at the boss.

"If you can block it, then why don't you remove it outright? If you're that strong, and not restricted by this person, then why are you still here? Why didn't you escape?"

The corner of the silver-skinned man's lips crept up, as he went down on a knee before Leo.

"You really think that everyone here is naive to fall for such lies? If a prisoner from the lowest floors was able to move here freely, would everything still be so peaceful?"

He reached out his hand, trying to establish his dominance by lightly patting Leo's cheeks.

"Although I must say, it was a somewhat clever approach for a new prisoner to protect themselves, but it also had too many loopholes.'

Just as the man was about to pet Leo's cheeks, Leo flicked his hand away.

"Before you do something you might regret, you should start to behave. Otherwise, I won't mind changing the boss of this place."

Leo slowly stood up, looking sleepy even as he was called out for his lies. What could they even do if he didn't accept these lies?

The only problem was proving his identity as the one stronger than them. But did he really have to fight to prove his identity? He had a thousand more ways to prove his identity.

As he stood up, his hands remained behind his back, hidden by the pillar behind him from everyone's views.

"So you wouldn't accept the truth until you see your grave? I just acknowledge your bravery, but let me tell you... I hate liars. If you accept the truth right now, I might forgive you for trying to fool others but if you don't..."

The man hadn't even finished speaking when his expressions suddenly froze as he felt Leo's eyes turn cold like he was a different person.

The more scary thing was the aura that had suddenly started spreading from him.

No one knew that the aura didn't belong to Leo. It was simply from a gift that he had received from Voldred.

As he stood up, hiding his hand, he had summoned Voldred's Sword. Fortunately, no one could see the sword, especially since Leo was extremely careful to cover every side.

Once the aura appeared, the silver skinned man froze in place, subconsciously taking a step back until he fell on his butt.

Not just him, but even the other prisoners that were nearby, could feel that terrifying aura which was nothing like they had ever experienced before.

It even felt like a sharp sword was resting against their neck. A single mistake, and they might die.

Fortunately, before the aura spread beyond the floor, Leo sent the sword back to his ring. He had already achieved the effects that he wanted.

He stepped forward, and went down on a knee. This time, he reached out his hand, and lightly patted the cheeks of the silver skinned boss.

"Please continue. If I don't, then...?" Leo asked, the corner of his lips creeping up to form a devilish smile.

The so-called boss of the place couldn't even react. That aura which he felt was truly not simple.

After all, he had been a prominent part of an upper planet before he did something wrong, and was locked up here.

Even before being locked up, he had killed thousands of people that were trying to capture him. So he knew what it felt like to face death. The man before him looked like an ordinary human. But that aura was no different than that of a demon.

"Ancient Planet... You're an Ancient..." That was the only explanation that he could come up with.

As the place was so silent, his words managed to reach almost every prisoner.

The entire place was filled with gasps, filled with shock. None of them could deny this reality now.

None of them realized that they were being fooled exactly as Leo had planned. Leo had taken the first step in the process of conquering the prison, and its human resources from right under the noses of the authorities.
