Tribal Sign-In: Immortal At The Start

Chapter 136: Aggrieved Hearts

A few more minutes passed as Haden pondered whether he should tell him or not, and he finally spoke, "They and we have the same origin."

Rion suddenly stopped in his tracks and looked at Haden with a tilted head.

"What?"

Seeing the dark clouds gather behind Rion's eyes, Haden's lips parted by themselves, and he answered, "The Remnant and Dhaevrak belonged to the same mother or monarch... having said that, I don't know anything about them."

Rion blinked a few times and thought, 'Mother and Monarch...? How are we connected?'

He looked away, and his steps picked up as his thoughts churned.

'Is the Monarch from my bloodline, and the Monarch father is talking of the same? What about the Mother then...? How is the Mother related to the Dhaevrak?'

Suddenly, the memory of the humanoid monster replayed itself in his head, and he thought, 'That chain... I didn't hear the whole of it, but it was named 'The R...' was it The Remnant?'

He shook his head at the thought and remarked, 'No... even though that monster was intelligent and stronger than others, it was nowhere near having such a level of respect from them...'

Haden watched Rion sink further inside his own quagmire and mumbled softly, "Are you not going to ask me anything else?"

All of Rion's thoughts vanished instantly. He looked at Haden and asked evenly, "How did you find out about us being from the same Mother or Monarch...?"

Haden's expression darkened, and he fell silent for a few moments before he answered, "Carvings... Murals and stories left behind by our predecessors."

A puzzled expression appeared on Rion's face. He tilted his head and mumbled, "Why have I never seen or heard of those?"

A dry chuckle escaped Haden, and he said, "They don't exist within the mountains. They exist in the outside world and..."

"And?" Rion asked with curiosity tangible in his eyes.

"Most of them have been destroyed by them," Haden finished.

Rion frowned and mumbled under his breath, "Why would The Remnant destroy the carvings and murals of our predecessors?"

Haden had already made some distance between them as Rion's feet were slower and steadier than before.

A few moments later, Haden laughed.

"Who said that both of them are the same?"

Rion furrowed his brows and asked further, "Then who are they?"

Haden looked back at him with a slightly reluctant gaze and mumbled, "I can not tell you that."

"Huh?" Rion frowned and pressed, "Why?"

Haden looked at the path and responded evenly, "Knowledge is both strength and weakness. Sometimes what you consider knowledge could very well be a curse... and some is not allowed to be spread."

Rion fell silent and thought, 'Curse of knowledge...'

Suddenly, a hazy memory from his past world resurfaced in his head, 'Curse of knowledge and purple... heh.'

He chuckled inwardly, and their steps continued.

Haden's gaze occasionally shifted towards Rion, who was still pondering over everything that he had seen.

Rion suddenly remembered something important that had slipped out of his mind, 'Ah... System.'

'What?' He blinked, and his eyes drifted throughout the screen.

Suddenly, veins bulged all across Rion's head, and a splitting headache struck him like a giant hammer striking metal not to shape it but to destroy it.

A silent groan escaped him as he gritted his teeth and continued his steps.

"Are you okay?" Haden, unaware of Rion's condition, asked worriedly.

Rion shook his head, and blue screens flickered before his eyes.

The headache began to lessen. Rion checked the default profile and thought, 'What was that?'

'Fuck! Why the hell am I getting more questions instead of answers?!' He cursed in irritation, and suddenly Haden placed his hand on his shoulder.

Both of them looked at each other. Rion was confused, while Haden was worried.

"Harden your heart," Haden said, and Rion's confusion deepened even further.

However, Haden didn't explain anything and continued his steps.

Rion followed behind, and just as they reached the Redwood Den, Rion heard them.

Screams, sobs and cries from all over the tribe's settlement.

His heart twisted, and his steps became reluctant.

Haden, however, didn't slow down; he continued to move. His stride was as confident as always, as unreachable as his stature.

The tribe members held on to the bodies of their dead ones who had died long ago but were used by The Remnant as clothing.

Rion watched as Haden walked past all of them and stopped before a woman who wasn't crying; she was laughing hysterically... the grief had broken her.

Haden knelt beside her and mumbled, "Stop crying, your son is hungry, you should feed him."

The woman stopped laughing and looked into Haden's arms.

Her shoulders trembled, and tears streamed down her face as she touched her son's face with a trembling hand.

"B-Bhyang?"

She gently took her son from Haden and cried, "Sniff... Thank you...Sovereign..."

Haden didn't say anything, he patted her head and stood up.

He walked towards those who were stricken with grief and listened to them one by one.

Rion watched everything, and footsteps resounded behind him. He looked back, and his eyes fell on his group members, who had their heads low.

He scanned them and stated with a forced smile, "I am happy that all of you are safe."

His gaze turned towards the aggrieved, he stepped forward and said, "Help our people."
