Tribal Sign-In: Immortal At The Start

Chapter 37: AOC [5] - The Chieftain

Rion once again met up with Karhun, and both of them began to march towards the chieftain's hut.

As they walked, Karhun mumbled in an apologetic tone, "I am sorry for the salt."

Rion furrowed his brows, patted him on the back and responded with a faint smile, "It's okay. Mistakes are just a part of our lives; all that matters is that you learn something out of them."

Kahrun looked into his eyes and gave him a quick nod before entering his own thoughts.

A few minutes later, they stood before the chieftain's hut and knocked at its door.

Tkk! Tkk!

The door creaked open, and Valak's red-haired wife greeted them with a faint smile. "Come in, both of you."

They gave her a slight nod and stepped inside.

Just as they stepped inside, their eyes fell on the other wives of Valak, who were chatting with dejected looks.

"It's been a decade, but there's no result..."

"I know... Am I not good enough to birth a Dhaevrak?"

Even though Rion didn't want to hear their private conversation, he couldn't help but hear them because of his enhanced senses.

As far as Rion knew, the Chieftain Valak was actually older than his father, yet he still didn't have a child, let alone an heir to the seat of Chief of Redwood Basin, so he could understand their disappointment at being unable to have the child of their love.

However, what he didn't know was:

The descendants of the God of Unity and Harmony had always been the ones to rule over the Redwood Basin because their bloodline made them passionate and instinctively great leaders.

The reason why Valak had three wives was that, even after trying countless times, he was unable to sire any children. Being the descendant of the God of Unity and Harmony, he instinctively had a fatherly nature, but he had yet to become a true father, and that had begun to eat at him.

Then, under the advice of other tribemen and Granny Nena the Shaman, he decided to take another wife... but the results were the same, and finally he decided to marry a wife who wasn't a Dhaevrak, and she became his final wife.

But alas, as if a curse had struck him... he was still unable to sier an hier.

Others had expected him to marry another wife, but he didn't.

At the end, he had concluded that he was simply incapable of birthing children and moved on; the pain was still there, but so were the people who loved him.

"It's better if I begin taking care of my lovely wives instead of running behind a blind goal that may not be achieved. Yes, the bloodline may end, but I am sure we would still see multiple great chieftains in the future," said the eleventh chieftain of Dhaevrak - Valak.

Rion, however, was unaware that the third wife was actually an outsider, while he was able to find out that Marin was not a Dhaevrak from a single visit.

The reason was a story to be told in the near future.

Rion glanced at the three wives of the chieftain from the corners of his eyes and thought sarcastically, 'How can he even handle three wives? Are we sure he isn't the true strongest?'

A chuckle nearly escaped his lips, but he forced it down.

A few seconds later, they entered a room and their gaze landed on Valak, who sat upon a chair while staring at a necklace with a single fang that had blue cracks all over.

Just as they stepped in, Valak lifted his head and mumbled, "Hoh? You both already finished your hunt?"

Rion stepped forward and replied with a wide, confident smile, "Yes, Chief."

A faint smile creased Valak's lips. He shifted his eyes towards Karhun and asked, "Why are you in the tow with this monkey? Don't you know standing beside the sun only makes you less visible?"

Rion's smile faltered slightly, and a vein throbbed at his forehead, but he made the smart decision of not doing anything on the auspicious day. Nonetheless, he could still curse him in his head, so he did.

'Damn you, descendant of the God of unity and haremony.'

Kahrun glanced at Rion and answered, "We are friends."

Valak's smile widened a little, he shifted his gaze towards Rion and said, "So you really had another friend except Dora... I can't say it's not a surprise, but I am happy that you were able to make such a good friend."

Rion grinned and remarked, "I am ten times happier than you!"

"Haha! I bet you are. So what did you hunt, little Rio?"

Rion's grin widened even further. He showed the leather pouch to him and muttered, "A dark wolf."

Valak's eyes gleamed in amazement, and he praised, "I wouldn't have expected anything less from you... Just so you know, only fifteen trainees had ever hunted a dark wolf, and you just increased it to sixteen."

Rion, of course, knew it; it was one of the reasons why he had decided to hunt a dark wolf.

Being the son of the Dragonslayer, he had to prove himself to others before they could even point fingers at him being unworthy of such blood, and what better way than hunting what was considered the hardest kill, all within the few hours of the ritual.

"I don't really know how fast you caught it, but I believe you are the fastest to do it," Valak commented. Took the leather pouch from Rion and began to eat a piece.

Rion and Karhun stood there watching him.

He raised an eyebrow and muttered, "What are you two standing here for? Get going, already."

"Y-yes," they stuttered and left the chieftain's hut.

As they stepped out, Rion pulled out a leather pouch and began to walk to the left.

Karhun raised an eyebrow and said while pointing to the right, "Isn't Granny Nena's hut there?"

"Just follow me," Rion muttered and continued his steps.
