"Madam Eve, Jin turned himself in."
"What?" Eve looked toward her assistant with a confused expression. "He turned himself in? Jin Telegard?"
"Yes, Madam."
"Pwahahahaha! He's stupider than I thought! Did he think I wouldn't plan for him to turn himself in? That was the worst option he could choose."
"I don't think so, Madam."
"Hmm? Why is that?"
"Well, for starters, he most likely knows that his government wont give him up. So technically, he's safe. And if there's a chance that they do give him up, he would be away from his home, meaning he could do whatever he wanted without a care in the world."
Eve thought about what her assistant said for a bit. These were things she also considered, but expected Jin to stay out of this conflict in its entirety, allowing for the war she wanted to happen more easily.
"Hmm. Jin is in their custody, right? Send a member there to find out where he is."
"I already did. He is in Location 6-7."
"The lowermost level of the secret prison that's underneath the Presidential House? Interesting. They're trying to run tests on him."
"Do you think he will comply with them?"
"Of course not. Jin isn't someone who would allow others to experiment on him. I doubt he will stay in that prison for long."
"But what if he does?"
"Doesn't matter. Jin was just an excuse to start a war between countries. This way, I can do everything that I want without anyone getting in my way."
"But Madam Eve, aren't you powerful enough to handle the military forces of the world on your own?"
"Of course, but the main purpose of this war is to destabilize Jin's safety and security. He believes that nothing will happen, and he believes that if he turns himself in, there wont be a reason for war because the U.N. will make Tartarus or Ouranos look like the bag guys. But all I care about is making him suffer. I took his parents away from him, then his grandmother. Now, his little life is getting put back together, and I'm going to take that away from him as well! But the way I do it will make him lose his mind."
'She's crazy!'
"I can hear your mind, by the way."
"S-Sorry!"
Eve smiled. "It's okay. I am crazy, but it's not my fault. My family, my child, and my life were all lost by Jin's actions, so I'm going to make sure he feels the same pain as I did."
The assistant finally understood. "You're recreating the scenarios in which Jin made you suffer in your past life!"
"Bingo! That's why I haven't dealt with him myself. But that's not all. Even if I'm not able to recreate every scenario, I want to see how he will react to facing his former self. Then, and only then, will I make Jin feel true pain, because at that point, it would be by his own hands."
"You're amazing, Madam Eve."
"Thank you, thank you. How are things coming along with the clones?"
"Yes, we only need to send out two more clones until we can fully transfer the data into that body you have."
"Good. Hold off on sending them for the moment. We'll send them once the war starts."
"Understood."
---
It had been 22 hours since Jin had turned himself in, and he was in and out of the lab constantly. He didn't feel sick, drained, or overwhelmed. In fact, he welcomed the experiment because he was also curious about why he had powers.
[So, I managed to uncover something.]
'What's up?'
[I checked the history of your DNA, and it seems as if you were producing mana long before you regained your memories.]
'Hmm. I can understand why that would be the case. My soul was most likely bleeding into my body, instinctively absorbing mana in small amounts.'
[No. Even before that point. I'm talking about when you were in your mother's womb.]
'The fuck? How?'
[I don't know. But that would explain how you have powers.]
'Keep going.'
[Your mother underwent that program to enhance herself and her offspring; this enhancement is present in your DNA, but by the looks of things, you would have been born normal, like everyone else.]
'But I wasn't.'
[Yes and no. Once you were conceived and developed to the point where your soul entered the soulless baby, you started to absorb mana, but since you were still developing, that mana merged with your DNA, activating the dormant gene inside you.]
'But I never awakened. Normally, girls have their first awakening at 8.'
[That's true, but that's because your mana suppressed your power. Your soul didn't understand why your DNA was so different, so it stopped your powers from manifesting, but it was always there, growing alongside you.]
'But when they did manifest, it overrided my mana.'
[Correct. That's most likely when your grandmother took your powers away. But even now, your powers are still here, dormant inside you. Your mana kept a copy of it. So you don't have to reactivate it as you would normally. It's as if you never lost them in the first place.]
'What? Then how come I have never been able to use them before?'
[Because your mana is keeping it hidden. Mana is a natural part of life, meaning it's in your DNA as well, but for you, because your control over it is so precise, you're basically forcing your powers to stay dormant without knowing that it's there. This is why you weren't able to detect it.]
'I see. This means to get back my powers, I'd have to shut down mana in my body.'
[Correct. That shouldn't be too hard, right?]
'No, that's extremely difficult. That's like telling a grown adult to pee in their pants after they've trained their whole life to not pee in their pants.'
[Oh. I believe in you.]
Just then, Jin's cell door opened, and the guards told him to exit the cell.
"What's going on?" Jin asked, knowing that was about to happen.
"You're leaving this place. But don't think that you're going to be free. Where you're going is a lot worse than here. Good luck."
