The Villain Rising: Ascension of Arcane Trickster.

Chapter 182: Insanity [1]

I will make sure you fuckers pay the price for every bit of this.

But before I could think of anything else… I felt something strange... Something primal, waiting to be awakened within me.

What is happening?

I haven't felt anything like this before… or maybe I have when I underwent my Nexus evolution.

"Hahahahahahahahahahahah."

An unnatural laughter echoed from my throat as my mind felt like it had finally been freed from some kind of restriction.

I felt free like I could do anything at this moment.

"You bastard, hahahaha, you cheated so blatantly." I muttered, making the senior who was lunging at me to stop in his tracks. "That was fun… so much fun…

hahahahah."

Countless so called efficient plans circled through my mind but I did not care about efficiency anymore… I did not care about anything anymore.

I just wanted to laugh…

But that didn't mean I wanted to die because I needed to survive to keep laughing, didn't I?

Maybe the pain broke me or maybe the pain simply brought my true self to the surface. It dragged out every fragment of insanity I had been hiding behind my always sarcastic and dramatic self.

And without anything in mind, I raised my broken body as green flames rose from me.

I didn't give any orders, yet it understood what I wanted and spread through the surrounding area.

The temperature plummeted and mist quickly began to spread in from every direction.

The cold effect of the flame did its job.

This was to blind the archer.

I still hadn't learned any spells, so using mana like this would normally be too inefficient. But I didn't care anymore.

I had a sensory domain, so my movement wouldn't be restricted. The archer and the greatsword wielder were different though… at least as long as they didn't have any special skills.

Each movement of my body hurt… but instead of pain, all I felt was the urge to laugh even more.

"Hahahahahahahahah."

Within seconds, I was right in front of the senior before he could even realize it.

He was no pushover either. Even with his vision distorted by the mist, he still attacked, swinging purely on instinct.

But my cards were already summoned, circling around me like planets bound to their orbit.

I didn't care about his punch and willed one card behind him as two more began rotating rapidly before I sent them forward, aimed straight for his neck.

"Take this, bitch… hahaha."

The senior, as if already predicting this attack, covered his body in aura as my cards crashed against them before bouncing off.

At the same time, his punch, enforced with aura, connected with my cheek and sent me flying through the air once again.

My mind blanked for a second before I regained it.

But instead of worrying about the pain or a possibly broken jaw, I used the Magician effect and teleported to the card I had sent behind him.

I made full use of the momentum, twisting my body before unleashing a kick.

The senior hadn't expected me to attack so soon… or maybe he hadn't expected me to stay conscious at all as he was completely caught off guard.

Before he could conjure another aura shield around his body, my kick connected with the side of his head, sending him skidding across the ground before he crashed into a tree.

Even his greatsword flew out of his hands.

"Oops, sorry. Hope that didn't hurt, hahahaha."

I didn't give him any time to defend and moved forward toward him with unnatural speed.

Rex was a commoner from a peaceful city, far from the main Demon Capital. He spent his childhood listening to all kinds of stories and legends about the Demon King and his brave guards.

From that day on, he and his friend Ron decided to become soldiers who would serve the Demon King loyally.

Then came the awakening.

Rex awakened a low C-Rank Nexus, while his friend awakened a D-Rank one. Still, he didn't give in and chose to keep pursuing his dream.

He didn't have resources like the nobles and elites, but he had will. He learned swordsmanship on his own and trained the few low level skills he had awakened through his Nexus. He even survived the Forest of the Unmasked.

That was when he understood reality.

After spending so much time so close to death, he realized how small he truly was. He was nothing.

Then came Lord Varek, one from the direct bloodline of the Demon King himself. He gave Rex a purpose and accepted him into his faction and helped him survive that brutal first year.

He had never asked for anything in return until now… and even then, all he had asked was for Rex to get rid of an E-Ranked first year.

Back then, Rex hadn't complained or questioned it even when it sounded too easy. But now, as he looked at the boy he was supposed to kill, laughing like a maniac…

All Rex could think was—

"Where did it all go wrong?" He muttered. "I just wanted to grow stronger."

It had been a while since Rael's laughter started and since then it was as if he was possessed. For every four attacks Rex gave, he unleashed a single brutal attack without caring for his own injuries.

Rex waited and hoped his friend Ron would save him again… that an arrow would fly out of the mist and stop the monster charging toward him somehow.

But no such arrow came.

Only the eerie laughter and the mist remained as Rael Von Ashborn, even more injured than Rex himself with his jaw broken and body completely drenched in blood, walked towards him with slow steps.

His pure white cloak remained untouched as it fluttered behind him.

"Hey, get up," Rael said as his smile slowly faded. "Why are you giving up so easily? Let's fight more."

He lightly kicked Rex's body but Rex didn't respond.

His already small mana pool was nearly empty now and he couldn't even move his body anymore. And even if he could do that somehow, Rael had unleashed the same painfully large pressure as before, freezing him on spot.

"Kill me already." Rex didn't wish to beg for forgiveness because the world was unfair and he knew it.

But the boy smiled instead.

"Kill you? Nah, I have a better idea."

With that, Rael raised his hand.
