Anciana was a grand city, famous for its ever-sprawling streets and beautifully shady structures and yet… Here I was, sitting inside a posh five-star hotel instead of exploring any of them.
But that wasn't what annoyed me.
Nope.
What really bothered me was the girl seated across from me, calmly sipping black coffee like she actually enjoyed it.
The act wasn't fooling anyone because her eyes narrowed every time she took a sip.
She was obviously just trying to look mature.
The girl in question was none other than the Student Council President.
Alya Ashen Noctharion.
And somehow by the twisted coincidence of fate… she was already ruining my plans
It had barely been an hour since we arrived in Anciana and she had greeted us as if she had been waiting all along.
Naturally, that alone made me suspicious but then an entire hour passed.
She brought us to this hotel and even assigned each of us our rooms.
And still… she hadn't said a single word about why she was here.
I finally broke the silence.
"Senior," I asked calmly, "may I ask why you are here?"
She let out a sigh, finally putting her black coffee back on the table.
"Why can't I be here, junior?" She replied lightly, her voice almost playful.
"That's not what I meant." I corrected myself. "I just wasn't informed that a senior would be accompanying us."
Her smile deepened.
"The Student Council President has the authority to reassess the difficulty of any mission." She said calmly. "After a careful review, I decided this one required reclassification."
She paused, letting it sink in.
"So I assigned a senior supervisor."
Then, with the same smile, she continued.
"And since no one else was available, I assigned myself."
"Why wasn't I told about the reassessment?" I still held my point firm.
Her presence itself wasn't the problem.
The problem was how I was supposed to act with her here.
She, on the other hand, didn't seem to care in the slightest and simply let out a quiet sigh.
"Alright… I give up," she said, her voice dropping slightly. "You, as someone directly involved in this, deserve to know the truth."
She looked straight at me.
"Especially since I have confirmed just how close you truly are to Noah… and Arza."
Her words caught me off guard.
Why would she bring up Noah… and more importantly, why Arza?
Still, I let her continue.
"What do you mean, senior?" I asked, keeping my voice cautious.
She tapped her finger lightly against the table and a small mana dome spread around us.
We were seated in the lobby lounge and several tables were scattered nearby, yet no one even glanced our way when the dome appeared because things like this were common in a place like Anciana.
Still… I couldn't shake the unease.
Just what game was she playing now?
"You are Arza's fiancé." She said evenly. "And it's clear that you care about her. She also seems to care about you… a lot from how she always follow you around."
She paused briefly before continuing.
"Noah doesn't seem much different either. From what I have seen, you two fight constantly but it feels less like hostility and more like brothers bickering."
"Not just best friends."
She looked at me with quiet certainty.
"So I feel… that I can share certain things with you."
How the hell were my fights with Noah "brotherly"?
I don't know a single brother who would try to cut his sibling down with a sword over a minor disagreement.
If that's family bonding, I would hate to see her reunions.
After my last meeting with her, I actually tried bonding with that guy, Noah.
You know… just in case she decided to start stalking me seriously.
But I failed miserably.
He kept picking fights with me over every stupid little thing, so I figured I had completely blown my chance of getting her on my side.
And yet somehow…
Those fights made me look like Noah's best friend instead.
Yeah, this is beyond fucked up and she really need a change of dictionary.
"What things?" I asked again, hoping she would drop the foreshadowing and just say what she actually wanted.
"I care about Arza and Noah." She said, her tone suddenly dramatic. "Those two gremlins are the only ones among my siblings that I don't want anything to happen to."
I acted surprised because honestly… I didn't even know how I was supposed to react.
Especially when I knew this was bullshit.
At least the part about Arza.
She clearly didn't care about her and that much had been obvious in the novel.
Even now, she was probably taking her name to camouflage her feelings about Noah.
But that wasn't a real problem now…
The real problem was…
Why was she telling all of this to me?
What was her game here?
"Why are you telling all of this to me?" I asked with narrowed eyes.
I mean, there was no need to waste brain power when she was just waiting for a question like this.
Her eyes turned serious.
"You know how dangerous being a successor can be." She continued calmly. "You've already experienced that yourself, with Varek."
"I don't want to lose my brother… or my sister because of something like that."
She looked straight at me.
"So all I need you to do is keep an eye on them and inform me of everything."
Then her gaze sharpened slightly.
"Especially Noah."
"Arza is smart and cold. She doesn't get attached easily." She said, "But Noah… he's a simpleton. He gets close to people far too easily."
Tsk, from what angle that bastard is a simpleton?
But Alya continued without caring for my thoughts.
Her voice softened, just a little.
"So please… Can you do that? For me, for the sake of those we care for."
"And if possible… Can you even convince them to join the student council? Pretty please."
I looked at her wide eyed.
I was genuinely amazed how crazy these kinds of people can even get.
All this drama and bullshit just to ask me to stalk Noah on her behalf and… convince him to join the student council.
This girl was a certified nutcase, alright.
But I didn't show any of that on my face and smiled brightly.
"Why not, senior. Why not."
I wasn't about to miss such great opportunities even if there were chances of failure.
