SSS Ranked Talent: I Can Upgrade My Skills Infinitely

Chapter 98: The Flash and the Void A Dance of Death

Voltex slammed into the spot where Alvian had been a millisecond before. The water boiled instantly from the heat of his passage.

Alvian reappeared ten meters away, using [Shadow Step]. But Voltex was already moving again.

"Too slow!" Voltex taunted, his voice coming from everywhere at once.

He circled them. He was moving so fast he created a vortex of electrified water, a cage of lightning that enclosed the team.

"Valeria, shield up! Seraphina, stay low!" Alvian ordered.

Valeria slammed her shield down, creating a golden dome. But the lightning was relentless. It hammered against the barrier, draining her mana reserves rapidly.

"He's too fast to target!" Seraphina yelled, her daggers useless against a blur of light. "I can't hit what I can't see!"

Alvian narrowed his eyes. His [Perception] stat was high, but even he was struggling to track the Naga General. Voltex was using the conductivity of the water to essentially teleport continuously.

"Inefficient," Alvian muttered. "If I can't hit him, I have to make him hit me."

He looked at the environment. The coral pillars surrounding them were rich in [Thunder Stone]. They were acting as conductors, amplifying Voltex's speed.

"Seraphina," Alvian said calmly over the comms. "Do you see those pillars? The ones glowing blue?"

"Yeah?"

"Blow them up."

"With pleasure."

Seraphina cloaked herself in shadows, slipping out of Valeria's shield. She moved toward the nearest pillar, planting a mana bomb at its base.

Meanwhile, Alvian stepped out of the shield.

"Hey! Sparky!" Alvian shouted.

Voltex stopped his circling for a fraction of a second, hovering in the water, his four weapons raised.

"You wish to die first?"

"I wish to see if you can take a hit," Alvian said.

He raised his hand.

"[Frost Descent +2]: Absolute Zero Pulse."

He released a ring of cold. It wasn't meant to freeze Voltex; he was too fast. It was meant to freeze the water around him. The sudden drop in temperature created pockets of ice in the water, disrupting the conductivity.

Voltex snarled as his lightning form stuttered. He couldn't travel through ice as easily as water.

"Clever trick!" Voltex roared. "But not enough!"

He charged Alvian, his spear aiming for Alvian's heart.

"NOW!" Alvian shouted.

"BOOM!"

Seraphina detonated the charges on the coral pillars. The massive structures collapsed, sending clouds of dust and debris into the water. But more importantly, the destruction of the [Thunder Stones] disrupted the ambient mana field.

Voltex's speed dropped instantly. The blur vanished. He was just a fast Naga now.

[Debuff: Static Disruption. Speed reduced by 40%.]

"You broke my reef!" Voltex screamed, his eyes glowing red with rage.

"I'm going to break your face next," Alvian said.

He equipped the [Lance of the Void Winter].

"Valeria! Pin him!"

Valeria dropped her shield. She activated [Titan's Charge]. She propelled herself through the water, slamming into Voltex's side like a torpedo.

"UGH!" Voltex grunted as the air was knocked out of him.

He tried to stab her with his sword, but the blade skittered off her rubberized armor.

"Get off me, insect!"

He raised his lightning net to trap her.

"Alvian!" Valeria shouted, grappling with the four-armed monstrosity.

Alvian was already there. He used [Shadow Step] to appear directly above the General. He gripped his lance with both hands, the violet frost on the blade intensifying until the water around it sizzled.

"[Glacial Void Pierce]: Heart Seeker."

He thrust downward.

The lance descended, a streak of black nothingness aiming for the gap in Voltex's golden armor.

But the General was a veteran of a thousand underwater wars. Even pinned, even slowed, his reflexes were god-tier.

"NO!"

Voltex released a pulse of pure electricity from his body.

"THUNDER NOVA!"

"BOOM!"

A sphere of lightning expanded outward. It blasted Valeria backward, her heavy armor conducting enough force to send her tumbling through the coral despite the insulation. It hit Alvian mid-air.

[System Warning: High Voltage Impact.]

[Damage Absorbed by [Vestments of the Void Monarch].]

[Mana Shield: 80% Capacity.]

Alvian was thrown back, flipping in the water to regain his balance. The attack hadn't hurt him, but it had pushed him away.

Voltex floated in the center of the devastation, breathing heavily. Arcs of electricity danced across his skin, repairing his minor wounds.

"You think you can kill the storm?" Voltex laughed, though there was a hint of fear in his eyes now. "I am eternal! As long as the current flows, I am infinite!"

He raised his conch shell. He blew into it.

"Woooooo..."

The sound summoned the storm. The water above them began to swirl. A whirlpool formed, sucking in debris and mana. Lightning struck the surface of the ocean miles above, channeling down into the whirlpool, feeding Voltex.

[Boss Ability: [Avatar of the Storm].]

[Stats increased by 50%.]

[Health Regen: Extreme.]

"He's drawing power from the surface," Seraphina shouted, swimming back to the group. "He's turning the whole ocean into a battery!"

"Then we unplug him," Alvian said.

He looked at the whirlpool connecting Voltex to the surface. It was a column of pure energy.

"Valeria," Alvian said. "Can you throw me?"

Valeria blinked, wiping blood from her lip. "Throw you?"

"I need speed. More speed than I have. I need to become a projectile."

Valeria grinned. She planted her feet in the sand. She locked her gauntleted hands together, forming a step.

"Load up, cannonball."

Alvian stepped onto her hands. He activated [Genesis Mode] for a split second—just long enough to boost his weight and density.

"System. Maximize [Terra-Form]. Density: 500%."

He became as heavy as a mountain.

"HEAVE!" Valeria roared, activating [Titan's Strength].

She threw him.

"WHOOSH!"

Alvian shot through the water like a railgun slug. The water pressure bowed around him. He wasn't aiming for Voltex. He was aiming for the whirlpool.

Voltex saw him coming. "You missed, fool!"

Alvian didn't miss. He hit the column of the whirlpool.

"[Frost Descent +2]: Flash Freeze."

He dumped his entire mana pool into the spell at the moment of impact.

The whirlpool froze.
