Victor's mouth twitched as he stared at the bouncing purple blob in front of him.
The slime—if he could even call it that—was giving him what could only be described as a *nod*. Its gelatinous body rippled with the motion, those weird-ass glutinous eyes forming and reforming as it looked at him expectantly.
"Are you some pervert or something?!"
His hand shot out before his brain caught up, pinching the slime's body like he was pulling someone's cheek. The texture was bizarre—soft but resistant, like grabbing a water balloon filled with jelly.
"Kyuu kyuuu!" The slime's voice pitched up, almost like a yelp of pain. It bounced backward, shaking its whole body in frantic denial.
Victor's eye twitched. The chain connecting his wrist to Kaida's rattled as he moved.
"What? You want my tail? To save your wife?"
Nothing about this made sense. The slime kept bouncing, those eyes pleading now, nodding again with desperate enthusiasm.
Behind him, Kaida's voice cut through his confusion. "Don't pull, you idiot!"
The chain yanked taut, jerking her forward. Her feet scrambled against the forest floor, bare shoulders gleaming with moisture from the underground water. The short battle-jeans she wore rode dangerously low on her hips as she stumbled.
"Since my hand is chained with yours, I'm getting yanked around like a damn puppet!" Her scarred face twisted with frustration, red eyes blazing.
Victor steadied himself, turning back to the slime. "Hey, come here."
The purple blob hesitated for a moment, then bounced closer.
Kaida lifted herself up from where she'd nearly fallen, brushing dirt off her thighs. Bella moved up beside them, her golden cat-eyes tracking the slime with newfound wariness. Her silver tail swished nervously, the bandaged tip curling around her leg.
Both women were treating the slime differently now.
Not like some random cute monster, but like something potentially dangerous. Something that demanded cautious.
especially after seeing how it can transform itself into non-threatening appearance yet hold the power that dangerous. It was unpredictable.
But Victor's Beast Tamer ability was working overtime. The skill he'd gained from Mira, multiplied a hundred fold, let him communicate with creatures on a level that bordered on supernatural. And right now, all he was getting from this slime was desperation mixed with hope.
The slime bounced off ahead of them, moving with purpose now.
"Where's it going?" Bella asked softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Let's find out." Victor started walking, which meant Kaida had no choice but to follow.
"I swear to the gods, if this is another one of your perverted schemes—"
"Kaida, shut up for once. This is serious."
Her mouth snapped closed, more from shock at his tone than actual obedience. Victor's face had gone hard, his usual cocky grin nowhere to be seen.
They followed the purple slime through a small clearing. The trees here were twisted, their bark darkened by some kind of residue that smelled faintly of rot. The slime led them to what looked like a miniature structure—a doghouse-sized room made entirely of hardened slime residue.
Victor blinked. "What's this?"
The structure shimmered, and slowly, with what seemed like immense effort, the purple slime snapped its... finger? Body appendage? Whatever.
*Snap.*
The doghouse began to form more clearly, walls solidifying, taking on a translucent purple hue. It was actually kind of beautiful in a weird, otherworldly way.
Kaida's jaw tensed. Her mind was racing. *How dangerous is this thing? Why is Victor even talking to it instead of killing it or running?*
Bella's thoughts mirrored Kaida's. After what they'd experienced underground—the magic circles, the chains, the Demonic Mist—nothing felt safe anymore. Every shadow could be a threat. Every creature could be the one that finally killed them.
And yet Victor was kneeling down, peering into the slime house with genuine curiosity.
The purple slime bounced inside, and when it emerged, it was pulling something.
A small cloth. Makeshift, torn, but clean.
On that cloth lay another slime.
This one was pink. Smaller. And unmistakably feminine in a way that defied logic—it had a tiny flower growing from what Victor could only assume was its "head." The petals were wilted, browning at the edges.
But the real issue was obvious. The pink slime wasn't moving. Its body barely held form, edges blurring like it was dissolving into nothingness.
"Hey, what happened to her?"
Victor swiftly knelt, his voice dropping that annoying perverted edge. For a moment, he sounded almost human. Almost kind.
The purple slime looked at him, those gelatinous eyes filling with something that looked disturbingly like tears. It gave a slow, mournful nod, then started making noises.
"Kyu kyu kyuuuu kyuu kyu!"
Victor's brow furrowed as his Beast Tamer ability translated the sounds into intent, emotion, meaning.
"So you're saying... the only way to save your wife is for me to insert my tail in those women?"
Silence.
Complete and utter silence.
Kaida's head turned so slowly it looked like her neck was being cranked by rusty gears. She blinked once. Twice. Her mouth opened, lips forming words that refused to come out.
Then they did.
"What the hell did you just say, you fucker?!"
Her voice cracked the air like a whip.
Victor winced as Kaida's fist swung toward his face. He barely managed to catch it with his free hand, the chain rattling violently between them.
"Are you trying to fulfill your perverted kinks on the name of this little monster?!" Kaida's scarred face was crimson, veins bulging at her temples. "What the actual fuck is wrong with you?! Insert your tail?! INTO US?!"
"That's what he said!" Victor shot back, gesturing at the purple slime.
"IT'S A SLIME! YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE—"
"I'm translating, not making shit up!"
Bella stepped forward, her voice cutting through their argument. "Sir Victor..."
Both of them turned to look at her.
She was holding the pink slime now, cradling it gently against her chest like it was a dying kitten. Her golden eyes were trembling, and when she spoke, her voice cracked with emotion.
"Sir Victor... we have to save it."
Kaida's anger stuttered. She looked at Bella, then at the pink slime, then at the purple one that was now bouncing anxiously near Victor's feet.
The cloth the pink slime had been resting on was embroidered. Crudely, but with clear intent. Little symbols that could only mean one thing: love.
This purple blob had made a goddamn wedding dress for his dying wife.
Kaida's mouth twitched. Her fist lowered.
She took a breath. Then another. Her red eyes studied the purple slime, watching the way it trembled, the way it kept glancing between Victor and the pink slime with desperate hope.
"This is..." Kaida's voice was quieter now, though still edged with suspicion. "This is actually emotional."
"Told you," Victor muttered.
Kaida glared at him. "But you're still an asshole for how you phrased it!"
"Come on, why would I even lie?" Victor ruffled his hair, frustration clear on his face. "Shit."
He turned to the purple slime, moving closer. The chain forced Kaida to follow, her bare feet padding against the dirt.
"Listen, buddy... she's not dying from some disease."
The purple slime's eyes formed fully, staring at him.
"She's dying from lack of food."
