Awakening: Reincarnating With the SSS-Level Infinite Evolution Talent

Chapter 44: The God of Oblivion's Reward Hand of Oblivion

Karl stepped toward the altar without rushing, his eyes fixed on the strange purple cracks running across its surface.

"You're trying to help?" he almost found himself surprised by how calm he sounded.

But he still walked forward anyway, stopping only when he was close enough to feel the faint pulse of energy leaking out of the stone.

"Huh," he muttered under his breath, not really expecting an answer.

He knew exactly who this presence was.

There was no hesitation in identifying it, no confusion.

This was the [God of Oblivion], the very same being tied to his class.

Even though the description of his [Heir of Oblivion] class claimed that the god had been killed, torn apart by the other [Ancient Gods].

But the fact that this eye still appeared, still spoke, meant that wasn't the full story.

And now, with the god communicating directly with him again, the last pieces of Karl's theory finally clicked into place.

Everything pointed to the same conclusion: whatever remained of the [God of Oblivion] had fused with him.

Maybe not completely or perfectly, but enough that Karl could borrow a fragment of that power.

Enough that the god could still interact with him through dreams or visions like this.

And if that was true… then the god wasn't fully dead. Not entirely.

He was living inside Karl.

Karl's fingers twitched slightly at that realization.

'Can I even trust him?' he wondered, the thought forming so naturally he didn't even think to restrain it.

If this god had been one of the [Ancient Gods], one of the beings strong enough to wage war across all existence, then trusting him blindly would be stupid.

Any being capable of destroying the world probably wasn't the kind of thing a normal person could depend on.

And yet… here they were.

The massive eye above him pulsed with purple light as new words appeared.

[I cannot grant you all of our power.]

[But as you get stronger, I may be able to "bless" you. Today is one of those rare occasions.]

Karl didn't reply this time.

He simply stepped closer until he was directly in front of the altar.

He watched the cracks carefully.

Each one pulsed like a heartbeat, the glow inside them shifting from dim to bright in slow waves.

He felt something tugging at him, something instinctive, something deep, urging him to touch it. So he did.

He raised his hand and pressed his palm against the stone.

The reaction was immediate.

[Not that long left for "them" to sense you. Better focus.]

Karl tilted his head slightly upward, staring at the giant eye above him.

The vortex-like pupil was spinning faster, glowing even brighter.

Whatever the god was talking about… was getting closer.

But there was nothing Karl could do about that now.

He forced himself to stay still.

And then—

Boom!

The altar jolted violently, cracks widening in a split second.

Purple energy rushed through them, spreading like lightning as the entire structure vibrated.

Karl didn't flinch.

He just watched as the light grew brighter and brighter until—

Bam!

A shockwave exploded outward, slamming into him with so much force it almost knocked him back.

But instead of throwing him away, the wave sank into him, pulling itself inside his skin.

Purple cracks formed all over his body, glowing faintly.

He looked down at them, unmoving, expression blank.

They hurt. Not a lot, but enough to notice. He still didn't react.

Several seconds later, the energy surged all at once—

BAM!

And the altar collapsed completely.

The entire thing shattered into fragments of stone that dissolved into tiny specks of purple light before disappearing into the void.

Karl exhaled slowly. More text appeared.

[Those that still worship me are few, almost nonexistent, while the other "Ancient Gods" are still at the peak of their forms.]

[There is no need to hold back. Good luck.]

And then, as suddenly as it had come, the massive eye vanished.

The darkness returned to being just darkness. The presence was gone.

Karl was alone again.

Ding!

A purple panel formed directly in front of him.

[You have learned the skill "Hand of Oblivion"]

"Oh?" Karl blinked once.

Fwish!

A massive purple hand erupted from the ground in front of him.

It was huge, shaped from swirling aura, and even though it didn't move, it radiated an eerie pressure.

It hovered in the air for a few seconds before dissolving into smoke-like wisps and sinking into Karl's body.

The moment it disappeared, Karl opened the skill's details.

---

[Hand of Oblivion (Uncommon): Can be used on monster corpses, granting a 20% chance to obtain another loot/reward.]

---

"What the hell?"

Karl frowned at the description. He had never seen anything like this.

Not in this life, not in his past life. Absolutely nothing.

A skill that straight up let him obtain an extra loot drop just by using it?

Not guaranteed, but still a consistent chance? It was absurd.

Even if it was only a 20% chance, one out of five, he didn't need anyone to tell him how strong that was.

'I'll have to test it out to see.'

But the moment he thought that, another thought followed immediately: this came directly from the [God of Oblivion].

That alone made it different from every other skill in existence.

Nobody else had this or could even get it. It was unique to him.

A grin stretched across Karl's face. He didn't hesitate.

He called open his menu and immediately went to evolve the skill.

[Current Evolution Points: 32.]

'Can I actually do that in a dream?' he wondered for a moment.

But then he shrugged mentally.

'Oh well.'

He opened his skill panel.

[Skills: Fire Meteor (Mythical), Hand of Oblivion (Uncommon)]

The system confirmed that the skill existed on the real-world side, making everything easier.

Karl didn't waste time.

[Do you wish to consume 3 + 5 + 7 + 10 Evolution Points to evolve "Hand of Oblivion"?]

His grin grew wider. He could evolve it four times in a row.

"Yes."

Ding!

[You have evolved "Hand of Oblivion" (Uncommon) to "Hand of Oblivion" (Rare) to "Hand of Oblivion" (Elite) to "Hand of Oblivion" (Epic) to "Hand of Oblivion" (Legendary)]

[Current Evolution Points: 7.]

Karl raised an eyebrow.

'I guess this is the type of skill that never changes names.'

He checked the new description.

---

[Hand of Oblivion (Legendary): Can be used on monster corpses, granting a 20% → 40% → 60% → 80% → 100% chance to obtain another loot/reward.]

---

"DAMN."

Karl's eyes widened slightly. He honestly hadn't expected that much.

Going from 20% all the way to 100% meant there was no guesswork now.

It would always activate. Every time.

That meant his loot gain would double permanently.

'Amazing.'

But even with how powerful it was, Karl stayed grounded.

He knew this wasn't a miracle handed out for free.

The only reason he even received this power in the first place was because his [Heir of Oblivion] class reached [Tier-2].

That had to be the only time the god could interact with him this much.

The god likely only had enough influence left to do things through Karl's growth.

And in the end, the god just wanted revenge.

Karl knew he was a host. A vessel. Nothing more.

He exhaled slowly and prepared himself.

BOOM!

His vision cracked like glass.

And he woke up.

Karl opened his eyes again.

This time, he was actually lying in his bed in the real world.

Sunlight filtered through his window. He checked the time.

Only five hours had passed. Still the middle of the day.

Which meant the time [Gods Ascension] was at its busiest. He didn't delay.

---

[Do you wish to enter "Gods Ascension"?]

[Yes] [No]

---

"Yes."

Ding!

The real world faded. The game world replaced it.

Karl re-appeared inside [Moon City], the familiar surroundings forming around him.

He smiled.

'Perfect. I guess I should move to the next region, then.'
