SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows

Chapter 18: Attacking the Boss

While everyone else was still staring at the massive wolf in shock, Aren was already moving. He dashed forward, leaping from black box to black box. He was far from the most athletic person, but after several level ups, his body felt lighter and stronger than before.

A lightning-covered wolf lunged at him. Aren gritted his teeth and dodged to the side, feeling the static crackle past his face. The wolf skidded across the square and lunged again, but Fang intercepted it, slamming the wolf into the ground.

Another wolf leaped toward Aren. It was too late to use Claw Strike, so he raised his arm to block. Its fangs crashed against the metal guard and bounced off, the impact sending a jolt through its own body. Aren grabbed it by the neck and yanked its head down.

"Arghhhh!"

BAM.

He drove the wolf's skull into the ground with such force that the head burst like a smashed fruit.

Aren did not even blink. He was already scanning for the next move.

"System, assign two stats to Speed and two to Constitution," he ordered, setting his sights on the next black square two whites away. He needed more agility and better control over his body to keep moving across the thinning floor.

Some of the other awakened finally understood the situation. Their eyes moved to the massive wolf at the center. It was clear that killing it would give a ridiculous amount of soul fragments and possibly soul energy.

But not everyone had the guts to run toward a creature like that. Those who could began sprinting and leaping across the platforms, racing for the monster.

The boss wolf noticed Aren approaching and released a low growl that vibrated across the entire platform. The nearby wolves charged toward Aren, lightning crackling across their fur.

Fang finished off his opponent and rushed to help, but he would not arrive in time.

Aren knew he was running low on soul energy. He could not summon too many shadows, and fighting alone was impossible. So he gambled. He summoned the merged wolf.

The massive shadow wolf materialized, and Aren immediately leaped onto its back. The creature let out a thunderous roar, shaking the other wolves and making them hesitate for a moment, but they still charged.

That was fine. Aren had a different plan.

Standing on the shadow wolf's back, he scanned the field. When he spotted the closest black square to the boss wolf, he leaped. He flew clean over five incoming wolves, landed hard, and almost slipped off the edge of the square, but caught himself just before touching white.

He took one fast breath and looked back. His two shadows were already tearing into the wolves, giving him the space he needed.

Now he focused on the boss.

The massive wolf met Aren's eyes. Its gaze was different now, sharper, more focused. It had finally acknowledged Aren as a real threat.

It unleashed a thunderous roar. Bolts of black lightning exploded outward, ripping through the platform in streaks of destruction.

Aren sprang to the next black box just before the lightning obliterated the one he had stood on. As soon as he landed, two smaller wolves rushed him.

He activated Claw Strike, slicing through the legs of one wolf and sending it crashing down. The second wolf lunged with its mouth crackling full of lightning. Aren raised his guard, blocked the bite, then twisted its head sharply.

SNAP.

[You have gained 50 soul fragments]

He jumped again, landing on another black box that brought him even closer.

Other awakened had also begun heading for the boss wolf. The two S tier and the A tier were among them, using their power to clear a path.

Aren clicked his tongue. "Tsk." The kill would be his. He would not let anyone else land the final blow.

Almost all smaller wolves were dead. That made reaching the boss easier. Yet the boss wolf proved it did not need them.

Its entire body ignited with so much black lightning that it shot arcs in every direction. The farther away you were, the safer you were. But for people like Aren, in the middle, it was complete death.

Elena made the first move. She spread her arms and released a gravity attack, slamming immense weight onto the boss wolf's body. The wolf's legs bent, forcing it down for a few seconds.

But only for a few.

It rose with a furious roar and released a massive lightning breath straight at her. The awakened scattered in panic. Elena lightened her own body and vaulted high into the air, barely escaping the blast.

The wolf tilted its head upward, ready to fire again.

Before it could, a massive metallic sword ripped through the air and stabbed into its side. Lightning flared, but the blade still dug partially into its hide. Aren saw Leon below, arms extended, more metal swords forming behind him.

The wolf roared in pain and slammed its paw to the ground, unleashing a shockwave of lightning. The wave tore across the floor. Several awakened were too slow, stepped onto white squares, and immediately burst into particles of light.

Dead.

"Shit, it is getting enraged," Aren thought. He needed to move now.

[Level up. +4 stat points]

Fang and the shadow wolf had finished their wolves and delivered Aren another level up. A grin spread across his face.

"System, two stats to Defense and two to Strength," he said.

His eyes locked onto the boss, he started leaping from square root square in a rush. When he was within range, he released a claw strike.

"Arghhhhhhhhhhh!" He swung his hand with the most force that he had used ever, the claw strike came out massive, firing at the wolf, but it was prepared, it moved out of your way, dodging the attacking and then lunged at Aren, he had determined that Aren, Leon, and Elena were the greatest threats here.

But sadly, due to that, it had not paid attention ti the blonde haired boy that was already in the air, a sword in his hands as he swung down full force.
