SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows

Chapter 53: Escaping the Castle Final part two

The butler stood there. He didn't say a word, but his eyes told Aren everything.

"Is he another fight?" Leon asked, stepping forward.

"Stop moving," Aren said. His voice was sharp and stern. It made Leon stop immediately.

Leon looked at Aren's face and could instantly tell that Aren was worried about this man. He looked at the butler again. There didn't seem to be anything special about him.

"What's up, do you know him?" Leon asked, but before Aren could respond, the dude in white lunged forward. He was an impulsive dude. His blade moved before his brain. It showed when he first attacked the maid and then the chef, but they didn't notice it, and now he did the same.

Aren saw the dude move. He immediately yelled, "Noooo, get away!"

His voice fell on deaf ears as the dude thrust his sword right for the heart of the butler. The butler didn't move. His eyes stayed in place until the last moment. He looked down at the tip of the sword that was an inch away from his chest.

Clang!

The sound of metal slamming against each other echoed as the man blocked the sword with only his finger. The force behind the block was so much that the guy was knocked back, eyes wide as he stared at the butler.

The butler watched him with a blank expression and pointed his finger at the guy again.

Boom.

Rip.

Splat.

The dude slowly looked down after hearing the sound of flesh ripping. He saw that a massive hole had been blasted through half of his abdomen.

His insides colored the floor.

Everyone looked at him in shock. They watched as he slowly fell to the ground in a puddle of his own blood. The threat of the butler finally set in their minds.

The butler turned his eyes back to Aren. He lifted his hand and pointed his finger at Aren. Immediately, Aren bolted. The blast slammed into the ground and exploded, creating a small crater.

Aren landed on the ground. He kept his eyes on the butler. "We aren't capable of defeating him, trust me. Your goal should be to get through the door," he said.

This was the first opponent they had heard Aren say something like that about. Adding to the fact that he had easily killed the white-cloaked dude, they knew this butler was no joke.

Aren immediately summoned the millipede. If it could create even the smallest opening, they would take it. The millipede rushed forward at full speed toward the butler. It slammed into him and pushed him back until it slammed him into a wall.

"Now!" Aren barked and rushed forward. All of them ran for the door.

BOOM!

The thundering sound of an explosion rang out. They all looked back for a moment and saw the millipede getting knocked back several feet, its massive body slamming into the ground. The entire hall trembled.

"Running away isn't allowed," the butler said as he walked out of the hole in the wall.

He dusted himself off and looked up at them.

"Shit!" Aren cursed. "Keep running! Run!"

They bolted toward the door, but just before they could reach it, a blast erupted in front of them. The explosion was so powerful it threw all of them backward. Aren slammed into the ground, rolling several meters before coming to a stop.

He looked up.

The butler stood there, one hand extended, his fingers shaped like a gun.

"You really think it would be that easy?" the butler asked.

He began walking toward Aren.

Aren pushed himself off the ground and rose to his feet, slipping into a fighting stance. He was about to attack, about to unleash a long-range lightning strike, when a memory surfaced.

The butler's words from before.

"I'm more lethal at long range."

Aren's eyes narrowed.

Only now did he fully understand. The butler had been trying to help him, dropping hints, guiding him, showing him how to survive. He didn't want to do this. Something was forcing his hand, something he couldn't resist.

But that didn't matter anymore.

Whether the butler wanted this fight or not, Aren had to survive.

Knowing that the butler was most dangerous at long range, Aren made his decision.

He charged forward.

Closing the distance.

Forcing the fight into close quarters.

The butler knew what Aren was trying to do. Sadly, this wasn't practice like when they were sparring. His orders now were to eliminate Aren.

Aren got close and attacked with a claw strike. The butler dodged easily, caught Aren by the arm, and moved to snap it, but Aren reacted fast. With his other hand, he unleashed a bolt of lightning. The butler saw the lightning and reacted with incredible speed. He let go of Aren to dodge the attack.

Aren saw that as his opportunity to attack again. He rushed in, moving as fast as he could. Sadly, the butler was too fast. His head snapped, looking Aren right in the eye. He stomped the ground and a massive wave blasted out, slamming Aren in the chest and throwing him back.

He flipped in the air and landed on his feet, skidding back a few meters before coming to a stop. He looked up at the butler.

"Let's attack together. We'll have a better chance then," Aiden said. Ever since that butcher man had used one attack to make him bleed, he had felt bad, hating the fact that only blocking one attack had almost taken him out.

The fact that Aren had also been taking care of most of the fights made him feel bad inside. He wanted to fight and win, or at least help, and now that Aren faced a hard time, he wanted to do just that.

Kira also nodded. She spread her hands and multiple ice blades formed. They all lunged forward at the same time, but it was only when they were halfway to the butler that they realized Leon was not attacking with them. This caused all of them to stop and look for Leon, only to see him standing next to the door.

He had a small smile on his face as he looked at them.
