SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows

Chapter 58: True Borns

After a while talking to the leader of the Black Knights, Aren came to learn that her name was Selen, and she was from the last Trials that happened.

He also learned that the Black Knights were the main security organization in Raven City, taking orders directly from Gordon. He was the one that had asked for the first Awakened to come out to be specifically brought to him.

He also learned a few things. The God's Domain didn't have its own people normally, but over the years, many Awakened had come to give birth inside the Domain, and those children were known as true-borns.

A true-born wasn't allowed back into the real world. It was illegal, and they would be killed on sight. For a true-born to step out of the God's Domain, many levels had to be passed for that to be allowed.

True-borns didn't have the system or connection to the Trials like the Awakened had, but they had a good connection to soul energy and were capable of growing immensely stronger.

The first true-borns were simply an experiment, but after that, true-borns had their own children, more and more, changing and evolving along with the world around them, and this made them vastly different from normal humans.

A young true-born would wipe the floor with a grown normal adult with one hand tied behind their back.

In a way, this had created two types of humans inside the God's Domain, the Awakened and the true-borns. Despite the fact that the Awakened ran a lot of things inside the Domain, the true-borns also had a lot of influence, their lands, and their own powers.

But unlike the Awakened that grew through soul fragments, they grew through normal hard work and training. When looked at, it seemed like a drawback, but it actually gave them a benefit that the Awakened didn't really have. They gathered experience for every growth they faced.

Aren sat outside on a small wooden bench, wondering if the people they killed in Total Town were true-borns, which would mean they killed actual humans and not humans from the Domain.

The more he thought about the things that he had done, the heavier the weight got. But he had already told himself he would never apologize anymore for anything. He would walk with his head forward.

"Can I sit here?" Kira asked. Aren had been deep in thought and didn't even notice when she had walked over.

"Oh, yeah, sure." He replied and scooted over for her. She sat down beside him and ripped a soft piece of bread she had in half and handed one half to him.

"I can't eat it all," she said.

He took it from her and took a bite.

"I would really kill for some pizza or a burger," she said casually.

"Yeah, definitely. We might get it in the city though," he replied.

"Yeah," she said, taking a bite. "Are you looking forward to the city?" she asked.

"Honestly, yes. Not for any reason in particular. It's because from there I can sleep and also leave the Domain," Aren replied.

"You want to leave?" she asked.

"Not leave for long though. There is just someone that I want to make sure she knows I'm alive," Aren said.

"She?" Kira asked.

"Yeah, my younger sister," he replied.

"Oh, alright then. That makes sense. I want to go to the city and have a little bit of fun, use it to distract myself," she said. The trauma still showed in her eyes. Aren looked at her and he could see it. He let out a sigh and took another bite.

"Maybe I'll tag along for that as well," he said.

She looked at him, her eyes bright when he said that. "Really?"

"Sure. I don't know anyone else here. I'd rather keep the good relationships I've made," he said.

"Relationship," she muttered under her breath.

"What was that?" he asked.

"Oh no, nothing," she replied, shaking her head. She went silent for a few seconds and then spoke after.

"I'm sorry."

"Huh? What for?" he asked, looking at her, confused.

"When I first met you, I thought you were pretty selfish. You didn't use people like Elena did, but you were still selfish. But then you saved me, and went on to help and save us multiple times.

I shouldn't have judged too fast," she said.

"Don't be sorry. I'm not really a good person. It's just," he paused and looked down, "I couldn't watch you get harmed then because it reminded me of some stuff. But beyond that, I'm pretty much selfish," he said, then turned to look at her, only to see her face a few inches away from his. His eyes widened in shock.

"You claim to be selfish, but there is good in you, beyond the nonchalant and cold act. And to be honest, I think I like that even more," she said.

Aren slowly shifted his face back, hiding the slight blush on his face.

"Uhm, so you heard of that Shadow person, right?" he asked, trying to change the topic.

"Oh yeah, that dude. That's you, right?" she said.

His eyes widened when he heard that. His neck snapped to the side, looking right at her.

"What?"

"Oh yeah, I know it's you. I put two and two together. That's something that will happen when you stay long with someone. I wonder how the others didn't know it was you," she said.

"I knew it was him. The only person who didn't was Leon," Aiden said, walking from behind.

Aren was shocked at this revelation, his mouth slightly open.

"What? You use shadows and you were pretty much the strongest, taking out more enemies and leveling up. Also, I believe everyone got the message when you left the Trial, and since we were close to you, we got it the same moment we left, which means it was definitely you," Aiden explained.

Hearing the explanation, Aren realized that it was pretty obvious to them that he was Shadow.
