Becoming the Wasteland Overlord With My Harem System!

Chapter 179: Stick to Offensive!

After his "outburst," Axel was forced to train far from the others for safety, or as Mimir put it...

"Think about what you did and reflect, you idiot!"

Despite that incident, which nearly turned into a tragedy, Axel felt elated. After all, he had successfully cast his first spell!

"I knew something was off," Axel muttered to himself. "I had been using too little mana previously. This method should be the right path for me!"

But he was reflecting on the wrong thing.

The reason his spells misfired wasn't due to a lack of mana; rather, it stemmed from his lack of "control."

To illustrate, Axel, using the standard amount of mana for his spells, was like someone trying to pick up a single grain of sand from the beach and pass it through the eye of a needle!

His success had simply come from increasing the amount of mana—essentially, the amount of sand—so that he could actually "grasp" it in his hands. Even if a few grains fell away, there was still enough left for the spell to hold together!

However, he had been chased out of the training ground.

His methods posed a danger not only to himself but also to those around him.

Now, he had to move to an even wider space outside the wall, where he was left on his own to practice!

Mimir didn't leave him entirely alone, of course.

She provided Axel with instructions, teaching him basic spells across all elements, from attack spells to support spells like body strengthening and even healing! As an added measure, she eve left Navi to supervise Axel's training.

[...This sucks.]

Naturally, the little penguin was feeling down.

He wanted to stay as close to Mimir as possible, after all.

Now, he had to watch over somebody wielding world-ending spells like a madman.

"Well, take this as an opportunity to earn her praise," Axel muttered casually while reading the notes. "Don't feel so down."

[I'm not talking about that!] Navi growled. [I'm talking about staying here with you! One wrong move, and I could get obliterated!]

Right.

Who would Mimir praise if he ended up scattered to pieces?!

"...You make it sound like I'm some crazy guy out to get you," Axel said, glancing sideways at the penguin. "I feel so hurt that I might just use you as my practice target instead..."

As he spoke, the orb in his hand began to emit a blinding flash of light. It was so bright that Navi lost sight of Axel entirely!

[F-Fuck...!]

Fearing for his life, the little creature ducked to the ground, covering his head and closing his eyes, bracing for impact.

But... after a few seconds.

"Pfft!" Axel's laughter echoed.

Of course, he wouldn't want Navi to die.

Even though he now had two system spirits, he couldn't predict the possible side effects of losing the main spirit connected to his system. Still, it wouldn't hurt to scare the little penguin a bit!

[B-Bastard…! Stop playing around! My poor heart…]

"Well, you're the one who's always messing around. I should thank Mimir for this later."

[Don't you dare!]

Despite their antics, Axel successfully cast all the offensive spells listed by Mimir. From the basic Mana Arrow to the elemental variations—Stone Arrow, Fire Arrow, Wind Arrow, Water Arrow, Darkness Arrow, and Holy Arrow—he managed to master all the basic arrow styles!

As for the other spells… he failed miserably.

Buff spells like body strengthening require precise mana circulation. Even if he channeled as much mana as possible, his control wouldn't improve easily.

Healing spells were even more challenging.

The mana required varied based on the target's magical resistance, the severity of the injury, and the specific spell used. If he miscalculated just one aspect, the spell would fail.

And Axel didn't just fail one aspect; he failed all of them at once!

Still, he didn't give up.

He stubbornly repeated each step, focusing on the details and trying to refine his mana control until, finally…!

"Argh! I give up!" He gasped, collapsing to the ground with his limbs spread wide.

Despite his best efforts, he still failed.

It was already noon, and aside from offensive spells, he couldn't cast anything else! He had wasted three hours practicing without any success!

"Master… you're struggling…"

Fenrir, who had come to watch Axel after some time, playfully poked at his cheeks. However, Axel had nearly exhausted all his mana from practice, leaving him too drained to dismiss her.

"I think you're not suited for basic spells, other than offensive ones," Fenrir commented. "Maybe you should try using bigger spells instead?"

"Bigger… spells?" Her words piqued his curiosity. "What do you mean by that?"

"Just what I said. Spells that consume a lot of mana to cast."

Fenrir stopped poking his cheek and stood up. After taking a short distance away from him, she took a deep breath and—

"Fuu…!"

Cast a powerful buff on herself.

Her mana radiated around her, resembling raging blue flames!

"This is the advanced Body Strengthening spell: Overdrive," Fenrir explained. "It converts mana directly into a power boost, and the effect increases the more mana you feed into it."

"This is…"

Axel gulped.

From what he gathered, it sounded like the perfect spell for him, considering he had plenty of mana to spare!

"However, there's a drawback to it," Fenrir sighed as she released her buffed state.

In the next moment, her body seemed to burst at the seams, blood oozing from her skin. She felt weakened, collapsing to her knees. Her expression remained unchanged, but she looked as though she were on the verge of death.

"A-After using the skill, the recoil is quite heavy... It can even cause your blood vessels to burst."

"F-Fenrir?!"

Axel's heart raced as he saw her condition.

He quickly crawled to her side and uncorked an ultimate potion, pouring it down her throat. Within moments, her injuries healed completely, leaving no trace behind—and her stats even increased by an extra 100!

"What the hell is that terrifying spell?!" Axel snapped, filled with anger. "There's no way I'm using it!"

"…Hehe."

Fenrir chuckled softly before wrapping her arms around Axel. Even though the potion had healed her, her legs still felt like jelly from the severe damage she had endured.

"As I mentioned, it's just the recoil from deactivating the buff spell. But... what if you kept it active all the time, even while you sleep?"

"…Huh?"

Axel was utterly shocked...

And a new idea began to form in his mind.
