The Gamer’s POV

Chapter 129: Lord’s of the First Ring [1]

The rain which had been falling heavily outside the castle suddenly began to thin out until it vanished entirely, leaving only a damp silence behind, and the sky which had been choked with black clouds began to clear as if the storm itself had been erased.

Lee Lim watched the sun pour in through the windows. Then, as if putting aside the pain he was still feeling, he gritted his teeth, looked away, and continued down the hallway.

The naga, who was stunned by the display of power, also quickly regained her composure, looked away from the window and followed behind him.

When they reached the doors to the Grand Hall, they shuddered and swung open on its own, revealing a cavernous chamber that felt more like a cathedral. High above, the vaulted ceiling was decorated with obsidian carvings and supported by massive obsidian pillars.

Large braziers filled with glowing blue embers illuminated the entire space and cast long, flickering shadows against the walls. In the center of the room sat a monolithic table, carved from a single slab of dark stone, which stretched long enough to host ten people around it.

Currently, seven people were seated majestically around the massive slab, leaving three chairs empty. Of those present, four were women and three were men and each of them had a naga who stood behind them.

Upon arrival at the Grand Hall, Lee Lim walked into hall with the same indifferent air as before, then took his place at the head of table.

He rested his elbows on the table, locking his fingers together and resting his chin on his hands as he surveyed the seven people before him.

The female naga that had been following him took her place behind him, lowering her eyes.

At that moment, one of the lords, a man who seemed naturally impatient, scoffed and loosened his tie. He looked to be in his twenties with neatly trimmed hair, wearing a sharp, dark suit and leaning back in his chair with a restless energy. While chewing his gum aggressively, he turned his head to Lee Lim and blurted, "Hyung, to be honest, I do not like the way things are going."

He snapped his head towards the others and sneered, "You guys may be okay playing lord in this godforsaken realm, but I am not! I have a wife and children. I had a life back in Seoul, and I need to get back to it. The sooner we finish the task that the god who brought us here gave to us, the sooner we can return. So why the fuck are we just sitting here? How long are we supposed to just sit around and do nothing?!"

The man had barely finished speaking when Kim Eun-ji, who sat across from him, turned to him. "Watch your tone, Min-hyuk."

Even though Eun-ji's eyes were covered with a blindfold, she seemed to be able to see him properly.

Beside her, a beautiful and sharp-featured woman with blonde hair leaned forward onto the table, and said, "Actually, I'm with Min-hyuk here. I mean, we all got dragged here against our will by that god. Isn't it unfair that the only one who can speak to him is Hyung?"

Opposite the blonde-haired woman, a man who looked like a nerdy businessman was drinking from a bottle of water. He slammed the bottle onto the table after she spoke, then raised a hand. "Well, I don't actually miss Korea. I love it here. But I'm also with Min-hyuk and Hana. Why the fuck are we not doing anything? We know where those otherworlders are." He turned to Lee Lim. "So why don't we just go over to the Puppeteer's Grove and wipe those bastards out?!"

It was silent for a moment.

Lee Lim leaned back on his seat and looked down on them with a cold gaze that made the rest of the lords shift uncomfortably in their seats. Then he finally broke the silence in a voice that lacked all emotion. "You guys may not know this, but Soo-Min and Tae-Hyun are dead."

"What?!"

Suddenly, the mood in the grand hall grew tense and everyone went deathly silent. The aggressive energy from moments ago vanished in an instant.

It was easy to tell that everyone was suddenly reeling, their minds flooded with questions about how two Grade Four beings suddenly ended up dead. In a realm where they were essentially like minor gods, the idea of permanent death had always felt like a distant memory… until now.

At that moment, Lee Lim raised a hand and the naga behind him handed him a glass of wine. Lee Lim stared at the red liquid for a few seconds before continuing.

"In the short time we have been in this world, we have become so powerful that causality itself has had to intervene."

He looked up from his hand to the pale faces of the seven people in the hall. "Causality loves balance, you know. It is for this reason that we can no longer move as freely as we want. If we leave the Grade Three region, causality forcefully reduces our grade and suppresses most of our abilities. If we move into the Grade Two region, we are dropped a grade, and two grades if we move into the Grade One region."

A cold smile tugged at the side of his lips. "I warned Soo-min and Tae-hyun to have some patience and trust me. But they refused to listen. They crossed into the Grade Two region, and causality dragged them down to the level of those they sought to conquer. Only for them to be slaughtered by a bunch of Grade Two otherbastards."

He motioned to the others, who were now staring at him with wide eyes. "If you bastards are so hell-bent on going to the Puppeteer's Grove, fine. Go. But after causality drags your ass down to Grade Two, I'm curious how you will fare against a thousand of those on the same level as you."
