The Gamer’s POV

Chapter 135: Different Sides of the Same Coin

"Do you know who this god is?" I asked after finally finding my voice. "What do they want?"

Uriel shivered slightly and gently shook her head. Leon also had a defeated expression on his face. After a few seconds, he added, "We have not dared try to find out."

Hearing that, I could understand why they did not try to find out more about this god, its identity, its motives, and the reason for bringing the lords here.

It was because, despite having the power to know everything about whatever they wished to know, they couldn't because there was certain knowledge they could not handle at this stage.

Trying to inquire about things of the same grade or a grade higher is fine. But starting from two grades higher, it gets tricky. I'm sure that any time they tried to gain information about the lords, they suffered some sort of mental backlash.

They also cannot see too much information at once. I'm sure that all the information they revealed today was information gathered over the past months.

With this, it's easy to conclude that gathering info three grades higher would likely leave them braindead, not to mention a god. That would completely shatter them, if not outright kill them.

Thinking about it, I suddenly remembered when I tried to see the stats of the Dean back at the bastion. Back then, gamer privileges had told me that my level was too low to withstand the high level of information of the target.

'It sort of makes sense now…'

I sighed, then asked something else he had mentioned that was still bothering me.

"You said that it's not just one person who is influencing the future. Who else is involved?"

Leon looked at me for a moment, long enough that I ended up shifting uncomfortably.

Finally, he said, "I think it's you, Cedric."

When I heard that, I raised a finger and pointed at myself, "Me?"

He nodded.

"I cannot see your future, past, or present. In a way, I could interpret that as you not being tied to fate."

Uriel then spoke.

"I tried to look at the future of two of your party members yesterday. It was blurred and constantly shifting. When I looked into their past, it was as if their history was being rewritten in real time, and this began the night after crossing the veil. I saw them following behind someone, though I couldn't see the person they were following. However, I believe that person is you."

'Oh…?'

I also had a suspicion that I could be responsible for changing and influencing a few things. It was obvious, to be honest, and this finally confirmed it.

But wait…

Could this be why the gods want to get rid of me?

As soon as that thought crossed my mind, Leon spoke, drawing my attention.

"If you don't mind me asking, Cedric. Who exactly are you?"

"Huh?" I lifted my head to him and arched a brow.

"You didn't have a bond," Leon continued, and his voice tightened. "Then, all of a sudden, you had one and I could no longer see you with my eye. Yet, somehow, you know everything about how my power works. If my guess is right, the gods want you dead, and on top of that, you're rewriting the future of everyone you touch. Nothing about you makes any damn sense. So, what in the world are you?"

I leaned back and asked.

"Do you know why the gods want you dead?"

"Huh?" Leon shook his head. "No. I don't."

"Exactly. I also don't know why the gods want me dead. Just like you, I'm an average Dominant who just happens to have a power that hides me from fate, while you have one that lets you see the strings attached to everyone else."

I paused for a brief moment before adding, "As for how I know about your powers? Well, let's just say that like you, I have special eyes too."

Leon glanced at his bond briefly before looking back at me. Then he let out a long, resigned sigh. "Fine…" his tone grew a bit urgent. "So what do you say? Are we allowed to join the party now?"

It was quiet for a bit. Then I finally exhaled and replied. "Yes. You can join us."

An expression of relief crossed both of their faces.

"However…" I quickly added, "We do not like attention. You do know that joining us will draw a lot of eyes to our group, especially from the influential parties who all wanted to recruit you. It is your duty to make sure that we do not get involved in any kind of conflict with them. And also, try to protect the interests of this party, alongside the rest of the members."

Leon smiled and nodded slowly. "I can manage that."

I stood up. "We do not have an extra room here. So… uh…"

"I'll just bring my tent over to this side," Leon offered.

"Great."

I was about to turn away when Leon suddenly stopped me, as if remembering something, then spoke again.

"By the way. I just remembered that one of the lords has an ability to invade dreams. I have a skill that counters that. I do not know if you have any protection against it, so I wanted to warn you."

"Don't worry about me," I replied. "I also have an ability that blocks that."

"Woah… it's almost as if we are both different sides of the same coin."

When he said that, I froze for a second.

Light and darkness.

Creation and decay.

Different sides of the same coin, huh…?

I turned away and left him, muttering under my breath as I walked. "That's… uncanny."

…Upon getting to my room, a raven flew in through the window and shifted into Aika. She was wearing just my oversized shirt, which hung loosely off her small frame.

I raised the feather that I had been holding in my hand this whole time and asked, "You heard everything, right?"

She nodded, then pulled out two bottles of alcohol. "I went to get some more. I figured you'd want a drink."

After everything we just found out?

"Of course."
