The Gamer’s POV

Chapter 157: Cull the Pack

Except Audrey who was flying low to the ground, everyone walked carefully further down the grass field until a one-meter white rock came into view. As we got closer, more of the same rocks appeared, scattered across the landscape.

But we could immediately tell that those were not rocks. Those were eggs.

At that moment, we heard the growl again. It dragged on like the grinding of a noisy engine struggling to start.

We did not even need to get close to where the eggs began to see the first of the creatures in the distance.

It was a four-meter-tall feathered lizard that stood on long, powerful hind legs. Its two arms were short, feathered, and shaped like a bird's. Its neck was extremely long, supporting a narrow head that ended in a snout filled with thin, needle-like teeth, while its long tail swayed slightly behind it to maintain its balance.

"The plan is simple." I began, gripping the hilt of my katana tightly. "Kill. Kill as many as you can. Until my ravens give the signal to retreat."

The others nodded.

Evelyn looked the most excited; she couldn't even hide the large grin on her face. Drops of blood began to pool down from her chained Kamas. The blood pooled to the ground before bubbling up and transforming into goblins made of blood. Each of them held a weapon also made of blood.

[The character Evelyn Marcus has activated the exclusive skill: Eternal Covenant.]

In the next second, the goblins lunged towards the creature with Evelyn trailing right behind them like a shadow.

The Saurian looked up when it heard the splattering of the blood summons, then its rumbling engine-like growl suddenly changed into a piercing screech.

It lunged towards our direction and suddenly, many other Saurians emerged from the tall grass with their feathers bristling as they joined the charge.

At the same time, Audrey lunged higher, then aimed three arrows at the creatures. As she shut an eye, a round magic circle with three runes appeared in front of her open eye, glowing with a faint hum.

[The character Audrey Seres Platini has activated the exclusive skill: Talon.]

Suddenly, all three arrows shimmered and turned invisible. Then Audrey whispered, "Hearts."

She released the string, and in the next instant, three of the Saurians suddenly stumbled and collapsed as their chests erupted in blood.

But Audrey was not done. One of the runes on the magic circle still hovering in front of her eye disappeared, then she whispered again. "Hearts."

Another three Saurians were thrown backward, their shrieks cut short as invisible shafts pierced through their chests.

By now, some of the Saurians who were not engaging Evelyn and her blood goblins had broken off from the main pack and had almost reached where we stood.

The next rune on the magic circle disappeared. Then Audrey whispered again, "Heads."

Three of the lead Saurians' skulls shattered instantly, dropping their heavy bodies into the dirt before they could even reach us.

At the same time, Celeste leapt from where she stood beside us with such explosive force that the earth beneath her cracked and caved in.

Then, she descended, smashing the head of one of the creatures into the ground. She then grabbed the dead creature's large tail and, with a terrifying battle roar, she swung the creature like a weapon, smashing it into two more creatures that had suddenly lunged at her.

Meanwhile, Leon looked at both Dion and I while tossing and catching the shaft of the halberd in his hand. "Come on boys, we can't let the girls have all the fun now, can we?"

He turned toward the horde of beasts that were upon us and caught his halberd. Then his muscles tensed and coiled as he wound his arm back, and with a deafening crack of air, he sent the halberd whistling through the center of the pack.

The halberd struck a heart and the beast suddenly stumbled and collapsed to ground dead.

"One."

A wide grin spread across his face as he suddenly lunged towards the horde with reckless speed. One of the creatures lunged forward and slammed its massive jaws shut to bite off Leon's head, but he suddenly ducked under the snapping teeth and ran past the creature to the one he had killed.

He gripped the handle, took out his halberd, and leapt. In the air, he spun the halberd then brought it down on one of the nearby Saurians, splitting its skull open with the weight of the axe blade.

Then he yelled with the same grin. "Two!"

It was at that moment that a grin also formed on my face because I was now also very excited.

Dion, who also stood beside me, let out a short, dry laugh as he adjusted his grip on his spear. "Don't get too ahead of yourself, Leon. Come on, Ino. Let's give this guy a number he won't be able to beat."

Before he even finished the sentence, he was gone with his spear held low. Three Saurian veered towards him with their jaws gaping wide, but just before they could snap shut, Dion yelled, "Lock!"

All three Saurians suddenly froze and with a lot of effort, Dion drove his spear into the chest of one of the creatures in front of him.

It seemed that his ability to lock a thing in place only lasted a few seconds. So, before the hold on the other two could break, he wrenched his spear free and pivoted toward the next target with gritted teeth.

He spun the spear and thrust the tip deep into the eye of the one beside him.

But at that moment, the hold on the last creature snapped. The Saurian let out a choked hiss as its muscles regained their movement, and it immediately lunged forward with its claws outstretched.

However, before it could dig its talons into his spine, Dion yelled, "Push!"

Suddenly, the creature and four more that had closed in to overwhelm him were sent hurtling backward, crashing into other Saurians in a tangled mess of limbs. It was like an invisible force spread out from him in a circle.

Breathing heavily and excitedly, Dion turned to attack the one nearest to him.

Meanwhile, I ran two fingers across the flat of my black katana and black flames engulfed the blade.

"What do you say Aika, let's win this."

'Roger boss.'~~
