The Gamer’s POV

Chapter 159: Decay and Divinity

After Leon spoke, the lead Saurian approaching them suddenly collapsed to the ground dead as a golden beam of light descended from above like a massive spear, piercing through the heart of the beast.

Patches of golden light appeared high in the air, and a second later, more beams followed. They slammed into nine more Saurians in the same manner, pinning them to the earth.

Leon then quickly planted his halberd on the ground beside him, and it shimmered and shifted into Uriel, who held a large bow made of gold. She had no blindfold on and was wearing a golden armor similar to that of her bearer, except hers was more elegant and form-fitting.

Hanging across her back was a large golden quiver filled with golden arrows. Using one hand, she tucked a stray strand of her silver hair behind her ear, then reached out and nocked an arrow onto the golden string, pulling it back in one fluid motion to aim.

Then she released the shot, and the arrow streaked through the air, straight into the heart of an approaching Saurian. The beast reeled back before collapsing, causing those behind it to trip and stumble.

At the same time, the shimmering manifestation of the large golden woman who towered behind Leon and Uriel released the golden sword she held in her right hand. The weapon slowly descended, and as it did, it shrank until it settled into Leon's grip.

Leon tightened his hold, and in an explosive motion, he lunged toward the Saurians.

…Meanwhile, Cedric reached to his side, took out a mana elixir from his inventory, and began gulping it down.

It was important to note that by now, the sun had already begun to set, which meant that Cedric and the group had been fighting for almost half a day.

When he was done drinking the elixir, he threw the empty vial to the ground, then called out, "Aika."

From his shadow, Aika emerged wearing just her short blue kimono that swayed lightly in the wind. She had the same black eyes as Cedric, and her usual stoic expression was firmly etched on her face.

The flames of decay enveloped her bare legs and her hands like wicked gauntlets of shadow. She reached one hand toward the sky, and a dozen black magic circles began to slowly form in the air.

While she was doing this, Cedric lunged toward the horde with his flaming katana held low. When he was almost upon them, Aika brought down her hand, and black projectiles like obsidian spears of dark energy descended on the Saurians.

The moment the projectiles struck, the Saurians stumbled and began to shriek, struggling to put out the flames that had completely engulfed their bodies. Many crashed into their own kin, only for the decay to spread from one beast to the next.

Cedric skillfully weaved through the chaos, catching the ones that were not caught by the flames with his blade. Like before, all he needed to do was leave enough damage for the decay to spread before leaping to the next target.

Far behind him, Aika raised her hand and prepared for her next barrage of black flames. This time, ten large compressed orbs of flames appeared, hovering in a circle above her like a halo of black moons.

Then, one by one, the orbs of flames shot out, tearing through the air and causing violent explosions upon impact. The green and black flames incinerated the Saurians who were caught by them, withering their flesh until they were nothing but green and black smoke.

Aika did not prepare another barrage after that to conserve Cedric's mana and instead, lunged forward to join him in the fray.

The intense minutes went by, turning into hours…

But no matter how many Saurians the party killed, more seemed to be approaching from the far distance. The dominants could hear more and more sharp shrieks, and the earth kept vibrating as more Saurians appeared in view with rage in their red eyes.

It was now deep into the night, and the only source of light was the large moon above, which cast a cold, silvery glow over the blood-soaked hunting ground.

Cedric looked at the now approaching sea of Saurians, then through the vision of the ravens hovering in the sky, he surveyed his party members scattered across the field. They all seemed completely exhausted.

Evelyn was fighting alone as she no longer had the mana to keep her blood creatures active. Her entire body was drenched with the blood and guts of the Saurians due to her visceral fighting style. She looked exhausted, but that did not stop the hungry look on her face.

The raven Cedric was controlling turned its head to another part of the field. In the air at a distance, Audrey was now doing more eating than shooting with her bow, and a very tired expression was on her pale face. She kept stuffing lots of meat into her mouth and chewing frantically to regain her strength.

Cedric's vision shifted to a different raven and zoomed in on the center of the fray. In a small crater, Celeste had just finished slamming a Saurian into the ground. She stood up and wobbled slightly, breathing heavily. She was out of mana, and even some of the wounds on her body were no longer healing.

…Cedric then turned to Dion.

Although he looked really exhausted, he seemed to be burning all his energy as if he was trying to keep up with Leon, even though that was impossible.

Leon, on the other hand, seemed fine enough to keep going. While he slew the Saurians with a long golden sword, his bond, who was now using a spear, was decimating the remaining beasts at his side.

'I think it's time we retreated,' Cedric concluded as he looked away from Leon and his bond.

'Ravens!'

Instantly, the two ravens hovering in the sky began to caw loudly as they descended toward the party. Whenever they passed a party member, they screeched, "Camp! Camp!"
