Adam's dive was a masterpiece of silent, lethal precision. The Abyssal Glide ability turned him into a living missile, the air whispering over his scales rather than roaring. The Cavern Wyrm, preoccupied with rooting out a nest of giant grubs, had no inkling of the death descending from above.
At the last possible second, Adam flared his wings, arresting his descent just enough to position himself perfectly. He didn't use Mantis Slash. This required raw, physical dominance.
He coiled the front half of his body like a spring and unleashed a Constrict of terrifying power, amplified by his evolved Strength. He wrapped around the Wyrm's thick neck, his muscles bulging, squeezing with the force of industrial hydraulics.
The Wyrm's startled bellow was cut off into a choked gurgle. It thrashed wildly, its powerful body whipping and smashing against the giant fungi. But Adam held on, his Scale Fortification deflecting the worst of the impacts. He sank his fangs into the base of its skull, his enhanced venom flooding its nervous system.
The commotion was immense. As Adam had predicted, the Shadow-Leopard, which had been stalking a glowing deer-like creature, froze. Its golden eyes widened, not with fear, but with calculated opportunity. It saw the Wyrm, a much larger predator, in its death throes. A potential feast. It took a cautious step forward, then another, its body low to the ground.
That was the moment Noodle had been waiting for.
A flicker of violet light. Noodle materialized not on the Leopard, but directly in its path, between it and the struggling Wyrm. The Leopard skidded to a halt, hissing in surprise at the sudden apparition. It was a split-second distraction, but it was all Adam needed.
With a final, sickening crunch of vertebrae, the Wyrm went limp.

The rush of energy and the significant jump in the fragment were immensely satisfying. But Adam didn't pause to celebrate. He released the carcass and his head snapped towards the Leopard.
The feline, realizing the dynamic had shifted from opportunity to threat, turned to flee. It was impossibly fast, a blur of shadow melting into the glowing forest.
"Oh no, you don't."
Adam beat his wings once, launching himself into the air. From his aerial vantage point, the Leopard's camouflage was less effective. He could see the disturbance it caused in the undergrowth, the way the glowing flora swayed in its wake. Noodle kept pace on the ground, teleporting ahead in short bursts to keep visual contact.
This was a different kind of hunt. Not an ambush, but a pursuit. Adam dove, using Abyssal Glide to pick up incredible speed. The Leopard, sensing him, zigzagged with breathtaking agility. Adam unleashed a Crystal Shard Shot, but the shard embedded itself in a tree trunk mere inches behind the feline's tail.
He was faster in a straight line, but the Leopard was more agile in the dense terrain. It was a stalemate.
"We need to corner it!" Adam thought, projecting the plan to Noodle. He climbed again, then dove not at the Leopard, but past it, towards a rocky outcrop that created a natural choke point ahead. He landed with a heavy thud, blocking the path.
The Leopard skidded to a halt, trapped. It turned, only to see Noodle materialize behind it, cutting off its retreat. It was cornered. Its golden eyes blazed with feral defiance, a low, menacing growl rumbling in its chest.
It didn't cower. It gathered itself, muscles coiling, preparing to spring straight at Adam, the larger threat.
In that moment, Adam didn't see a monster. He saw a fellow hunter, proud and fierce until the very end. He respected it. But in the dungeon, respect didn't mean mercy.
As the Shadow-Leopard launched itself at his throat, Adam met its charge. He didn't dodge. He used Shadow Pounce, meeting its momentum with his own. He moved with such explosive speed that he seemed to teleport. His head snaked forward, and his jaws closed around the Leopard's neck in mid-air. There was a sharp crack.
The fight was over.

"Feline Agility... perfect." This fragment would synergize beautifully with his Weasel's Sprint and high Agility stat, potentially unlocking a new tier of reflexive speed.
He took a moment to check his updated status, a wave of satisfaction washing over him.

Emboldened by their success, Adam and Noodle pushed deeper into the ethereal, glowing forest. Adam's Seismic Sense was now a finely tuned instrument, and it didn't take long for it to pick up the familiar, deep, grinding vibrations of another Cavern Wyrm. This one was larger, a Level 20 beast, likely the dominant predator of this section of the fungal woods.
The hunt was a brutal repetition of the last, perfected through experience. Adam descended from the canopy like a bolt of black lightning, his Abyssal Glide making his approach utterly silent. His powerful constriction and neurotoxic venom made short work of the great beast, its thrashing futile against his evolved strength.

A wave of raw, primal power surged through Adam. He felt denser, stronger, more substantial. The passive boost was subtle but pervasive, enhancing everything he was. The notification for his accumulated Evolution Points also flashed, a separate and grander tally of his progress.
[ Evolution Points: 102 -> 142/2500 ]
"Now, for the Leopards," he thought, turning his attention to the Feline Agility fragment. With Noodle's expert tracking, they found a small pride of three Shadow-Leopards hunting near a bioluminescent river.
The leopards were smarter and more coordinated than the lone one they had faced before. They tried to flank and separate Adam, using the dense flora for cover. But Adam was no longer a ground-bound hunter.
He took to the air, becoming an untouchable specter of death. He used Crystal Shard Shot from above, his aim true now that he was undisturbed. One leopard fell, then another. The fragment ticked up: 0.7... 0.9... The EP and EXP rolled in.

He landed to deliver the final blow to the third, cornering it against the riverbank. Just as he was about to strike, the ground shook with a different, heavier vibration. It wasn't the rhythmic grind of a Wyrm. It was the thunderous, bipedal stomp of something massive.
From behind a grove of giant, glowing mushrooms, the creature emerged. It was a Ursa Abyssal, a bear-like monstrosity the size of a small house. Its fur was a matted, stone-grey, and its eyes burned with a dull, malevolent red. Moss and fungi grew on its back, and its claws were like polished obsidian scythes. It was a Level 22 brute, drawn by the scent of blood and battle.
The remaining Shadow-Leopard, seeing the new, greater threat, tried to bolt. But the Ursa was deceptively fast. It swiped a paw the size of a boulder, and the leopard was smashed into a pulp against a tree trunk.
The Ursa didn't even pause to consume it. Its burning red eyes locked onto Adam. It let out a roar that was less a sound and more a physical pressure wave, causing the glowing fungi to dim and the river to ripple.
"You have got to be kidding me," Adam thought, a fresh wave of exasperation cutting through his focus. "Can I not have one clean, uninterrupted hunt?!"
The Ursa lowered its head and charged, its footsteps cracking the very ground. It was a force of pure, mindless destruction.
Adam had a choice. He could flee, abandoning the nearly complete fragment. Or he could stand and fight this walking avalanche.
He beat his wings, lifting off the ground as the Ursa slammed into the space he had just occupied, shattering the riverbank. He still had his four saved Skill Points. It was time to spend one.
As he soared above the roaring behemoth, he allocated a single point, upgrading Mantis Slash to Level 3. The energy required for the skill felt more efficient, the potential for damage greater. He then dove, aiming for the Ursa's back, his claws and fangs seeking purchase.
The fight was a whirlwind of fury and precision. Adam used his flight to stay mobile, striking with Mantis Slash and venomous bites whenever an opening appeared.
The Ursa's hide was incredibly tough, but Adam's newly acquired Chitin Fracture and upgraded slashes slowly wore it down. He took a glancing blow from a paw that sent him spinning through the air, but his Scale Fortification and Draconic Affinity absorbed the worst of it.
Finally, after a grueling battle, Adam saw his chance. The Ursa, enraged and tired, stood on its hind legs for a massive slam. Adam used Weasel's Sprint in mid-air, darting forward to deliver a point-blank Mantis Slash directly to its exposed throat. The Ursa gurgled, collapsed, and fell still.

The dual streams of power—the immediate rush of the level-ups and the steady accumulation of Evolution Points was intoxicating.
He was now Level 21, his next milestone set at 110 EXP. He had a total of 6 Skill Points saved. And his journey to his next evolution was well underway, nearly 300 points claimed.
He looked at the massive carcass of the Ursa, then at Noodle, who was cautiously approaching.
"This forest gives as much as it takes," Adam mused, the thrill of victory mingling with a healthy respect for the dungeon's endless surprises.
