I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 66: First Step To Godhood

Kling!

Kling!

Swords, knives, and rods clashed against each other several times in an attempt to delay the inevitable.

However, by the time the fifth person was killed, it had become apparent to the thugs that Yi Chen was far superior in strength compared to them.

Some tried to beg for mercy, while a few tried to run away. However, Yi Chen swung his sword towards them decisively.

Soon, all their lifeless bodies were lying on the blood-soaked floor as Yi Chen sheathed his sword.

Initially, when these men had started to beg for mercy, he naturally hesitated a little.

Unlike the crazy bandits, they really wanted to escape.

Therefore, a large part of him even wanted to let them go. However, reality soon slapped him in the face and woke him up.

This wasn't Earth but the world of cultivation.

Leaving even one of them alive would only create more problems for him in the future.

What was worse than an enemy was an enemy that was out of one's sight.

Knowing this, he kept on slashing, striking, dodging and blocking until all ten thugs were neutralised.

Seeing the bloody scene, he muttered to himself, "It's only right since I would be the one lying on the floor now in their place if I were any weaker."

With that said, he called up his mission screen.

======= Mission ========

Task: Earn 500 EXP

Time Period: 42 days

Reward: Know-how on unlocking God Qi Points

Failure Penalty: Path to Godhood forever blocked.

Current Progress: 100 / 500 EXP

======== End ==========

'400 EXP more to go…' Yi Chen thought while exhaling a short breath and started searching their bodies for any useful items or money.

A while later, he exited his now unlivable room with a total of 1200 bronze notes in his pouch.

Turning to one side in the hallway, he kicked open the first room that entered his sight.

It was still four in the morning, and since his body was covered in blood, he decided to freshen up first.

A while later, he had changed into a new set of robes and exited the room with his belongings.

"It's a pity I need to leave today…" Yi Chen said to himself as he glanced towards the room where ten bodies were lying.

Apparently, if he were to report this incident to the City's guards, then after an investigation, he would be rewarded with several silver coins for taking care of these criminals.

With a regretful heart, he got down the stairs.

At this moment, his eyes were upon the writing paper on the reception table.

Picking the quill, he scribbled a few things on it and, after folding the paper, shoved it in his robe's pocket.

It was around half past five in the morning, and the sun had started to rise.

When Yi Chen exited the Inn, he could see a few beggars roaming here and there.

Seeing a child about the age of twelve years roaming near him, he called him out.

"Hey, you! Come here,"

The boy hesitated a little, but his growling stomach gave him hope that Yi Chen might just give him some food to eat.

"Do you know where the City's Guard Station is?" Yi Chen asked with a serious expression.

The boy didn't say anything and only nodded hesitantly. The hopeful light in his eyes was fading.

"Then…"

Yi Chen took out a hundred bronze notes and gave them to the boy, who stared at Yi Chen with an incredulous expression.

This much money was enough to feed him for the whole week!

"I'm not giving it to you for free. Before noon, deliver this letter to the Guard Station, you understand?" he asked while handing the letter to the child.

"Yes, big brother, I understand," the boy finally answered. Enthusiasm and gratefulness were apparent in his voice.

"Alright," Yi Chen nodded and left towards the market area.

In the letter, he had written about the ten criminals he had dealt with and for the guards to confirm it themselves.

As for the rewards, since it would take a few weeks to get it, he just stated that they could do whatever they wished with the reward money.

By the time he reached the market area, morning food stalls were up, and he sat outside one of them and had his breakfast.

"One tea, please," he asked the owner and was soon served with a warm cup of tea.

'Smells delicious,' he said while sniffing in the fragrant smell of tea leaves and took a sip.

It was his first time trying street tea in this world, and it really suited his taste buds.

'Hits just like home,' he thought while snacking his lips nostalgically.

Since he had time to kill, he decided to slowly pass his time here while sipping on this delicious tea.

Like this, it was only on his 11th cup that Yi Chen stood up from his seat and paid the stall owner.

"Thank you for your patronage, sir," the middle-aged man thanked him and busied himself with the orders of other customers.

Yi Chen smiled subtly and turned around to glance at the sun that had started to increase its intensity.

"It's time to leave the city," he said to himself and started walking towards the city's wagon depot before boarding a wagon.

The band of wagons soon left the city, and the next leg of Yi Chen's journey began.

Just a few days after he had left the Ming City, he reached the Ninth Level of [Elementary Transformation Stage].

All three hundred and sixty of his regular Qi points were opened, and if he wanted, he could directly enter the next stage: [Meridian Refinement Stage].

However, he didn't. Instead, he stopped devoting time to cultivation and decided to focus entirely on completing the system's mission from then on.

Time passed gradually, and a month had elapsed.

During this period, Yi Chen followed his plan of dealing with both bandits and criminals to complete his mission as he crossed several cities.

At times, there were no findings, but he was persistent and kept trying.

As a result of his persistent efforts, when he dealt with a small 5-man group of bandits this evening, he finally received the message he had been waiting for.

Ding! Mission Completed!

Host has completed the mission in only 33 days…

Converting the remaining 12 days into experience…

Ding! 620 EXP has been deposited…

The Mission Reward will be processed now…!

The very next moment, a flood of information was shoved inside Yi Chen's mind, making him almost feel like puking.

"Brother Chen! Are you alright?" The mercenary leader of the group asked with concern.

"Yes, I'm fine. I'll go and rest first," Yi Chen muttered while tightly clutching his mouth and went back to his tent.

In the tent, it was only after another ten minutes that he finally started to feel alright.

Gasping for breath, he first calmed his breathing before finally thinking back to what he had just obtained.

"No wonder no one was able to discover these Godly Qi Points…"

Yi Chen muttered to himself.

These 160 Qi points were concentrated in four zones in the body.

They were the two palms and the two feet.

However, it wasn't the location that was difficult to find, but the way to open it.

With such complex breathing patterns, it was almost impossible for one to discover this method without being instructed on how to do it by someone.

"Thankfully, I still have 16 days of buff left," he thought to himself.

In two days time, he would be arriving in Tang City.

Until then, he had decided to fully devote himself to understanding and remembering this complex breathing sequence.

Therefore, by the time he reached Tang City, Yi Chen was fully confident in his ability to unlock all 160 Godly points.

With the money he had collected so far, he chose to book a room in an expensive Inn for the next fifteen days.

When he entered his room, he immediately freshened up to clear his mind and sat on his bed to cultivate.

However, before closing his eyes, he glanced at the progress he had made in the following month.

=== Elementary Transformation Stage ===

Level: Ninth

Qi Points: 360/ 360

Godly Qi Points: 0 / 160

Progress: 360 / 520

==================================

Seeing just how close he was to achieving something which almost no one in this realm or even in the higher realm had possibly accomplished, a sense of exhilaration took over Yi Chen.

The next moment, he firmly closed his eyes and began following the breathing sequence as per his memories.

It was a sequence consisting of 1050 different variations, and every breath that Yi Chen took in and exhaled from that point on mirrored that sequence.

Time once again started flowing at a much slower pace for Yi Chen, who was completely absorbed in his goal.

During this period, he barely slept for more than two hours per night and only left his room to eat his meals.

He was fully focused on cultivating so as to reap the maximum benefit from his 10x Cultivation Buff.

On some nights, late at night, if one focused on Yi Chen's room from outside, they would see subtle golden lights flickering at certain intervals.

Every time he unblocked one Godly Qi point, this phenomenon was seen. However, Yi Chen had no idea about it since his eyes were closed throughout.

On the morning of the fifteenth day, Yi Chen opened his eyes with a bright expression on his face.

"I've finally done it!" he cheered to himself while pumping his fists in the air.

Even though he had unlocked all 160 Godly Qi Points, it didn't seem like there were any changes in his body.

At least that's what it looked like from the outside.

However, that was not the case.

Feeling the overwhelming power surging within his body, Yi Chen called up his status panel to check the new changes.

A/N: Merry Christmas :)
