What? Why am I Suddenly an Undead Hottie?

Chapter 48: Chat

Woah, so much magic! And so much detail too! No wonder the Goddess wanted to update my system, the information the old one gave on magic was wayyy to limited. Like basically one spell per element? Not even showing me what the spell was or what its place was in the magical hierarchy? This is sooo much better.

I looked over the long list of spell descriptions. Hopefully now that I have this and I'm out in the world I can start to learn some new spells and fill out my roster a bit more. Though really, I already have a lot more than I can feasibly use given my pitiful combat ability. Just remembering all these spells is already a bit of a stretch for me…

Thinking about having to study and memorize things again sent a little shiver down my spine, but I quickly recovered. Hey it's magic, though! If I had to choose between all the subjects of my old world and all the subjects of my new one, magic would definitely be at the top of my list. I may not be a combat junkie or anything, but getting stronger and acquiring god-like miracle powers is definitely worth it!

Steeling myself for the future I was about to get up and go check on Rivi and maybe try out a few new spells when I spotted something in the menu bar.

A little red "(1)" floated above the Chat tab. As someone who was nearly obsessive compulsive about notifications in my past life, even though as a social outcast I didn't receive that many of them, this little "(1)" was something I absolutely could not resist. I clicked on the tab without thought, and was a little surprised at what I found.

I'm getting a message from an unknown user? Is this a prank from Noe or is the system of hers actually really insecure? Like who could have latched onto a system like this so fast and already sent a message? Another god? Oh shoot…I remembered the initial creator of the system—Draugner or something. Did he get angry that Melphinoe jailbroke his system on me? Has he already figured out her new system and is now trying to lock onto me? There's no way he could get my information through a message ping is there?

My finger trembled over the button wondering if it would be dangerous to look at the message, but in the end curiosity and my obsessive compulsion won out over caution, and I clicked on the [???] to see the message.

[Chat with ???]

[???: Hello? Is anyone there?]

I looked at the message blankly. The f**k?? What is this, some outdated spam message from a telemarketing bot?? Do they even have that in this world?? Confused, and hungry for answers I replied, though with a little hesitation.

[Silvie: Hello? May I know who I'm speaking to?]

F**k can they see my name? How the hell are they just question marks. I hope I didn't give too much away… I bit on my nails, waiting for a reply, though it didn't take long.

[???: I-I don't know. Um…I've been in a void for a long time, kinda sleeping? I guess? Sorry, this is the first time I've used words in a long time.]

I blinked. This seems a little elaborate for spam, but…could it be a prank?

I quickly opened the [Developer] tab in the chat screen.

[Chat with Developer]

[Silvie: Hey do you have any idea what this [???] is in my chat tab? Who are they? This isn't you, right??]

I sent off the message then looked back at my chat with [???]. Should I…respond? And if so…how? But before I could decide another message came in.

[???: Y-you're still there, right?]

Adding stutters into your text, who do you think you are? I frowned. Normally I try not to judge people too much before I know more about them, but with all the suspicion I had towards this mysterious chat person, I was finding it harder and harder to restrain my impulses.

[Silvie: Yeah, I'm still here]

I sent. If it really is someone who's been stuck in a void for a long time, it'd have to have been pretty lonely…I thought suddenly sympathizing with the strange sender before suspicion gripped me again. But then again, that might just be what they want me to feel…maybe some kind of world-ending demon who's been sealed for millenia, but knows just how to suck it up to get some sucker to let him out.

[???: O-oh, that's good then…]

A pause.

[???: Are you…in a void too? How come we can communicate?]

Buddy, I'm asking myself the same question…I look over at the other chat tab. Finally…

[Developer: Hey Silvie! o/ Hope you're having fun with the new system. Let me know if anything could use improving, I'm already at work on the next version. Coding is so fun! Anyways, to answer your question, my jailbreaking of Draugner's system had the inadvertent effect of breaking the binding spells he had placed on the sentience fueling it.

This is kind of a big secret, so be sure not to tell anyone, but Draugner's system actually works on a fragment of his divinity! You should know just how big a deal that is from the visions I showed you. While my domain is one of the more consolidated with only 7 known soul fragments, many of the other gods domains are split up into considerably more pieces.

For whatever reason Draugner decided to use some of his own divine fragments to fuel the systems he gave to the various heroes, but naturally he bound them to himself in order not to lose them in the future. When you entered my dungeon his control over the fragment was sealed due to protections I have in place, and when I jailbroke the system, I recovered control over the fragment.

Long story short, it's a cute little piece of you just waking up, be kind! Congratulations Miss Demigod ;)
