What? Why am I Suddenly an Undead Hottie?

Chapter 51: Screw gods demon kings and heroes

[Rivi has joined the chat]

[???: And who is this?]

[Developer: Rivi!!! Please don't be mad at me ( •̯́ ₃ •̯̀)]

Rivi looked up from her system window. "Uh…Silvie? What is this? Who are these people?"

"Ah, I didn't explain anything did I? I looked up from typing my next message. "Well the Developer is Noe, and the three question marks is the soul fragment in me that's recently gained sentience.

"The WHAT!??" Rivi froze.

"ahem," my eyes shifted to the ground. "The soul fragment…"

The chat pinged.

[???: Silvieeee, who's the new friend? You have to explain!!!]

"Yours?" Rivi pointed at the chat. "Your...soul fragment?"

"Well…I mean, not originally…"

Rivi grabbed my shoulders. "AND WHEN WERE YOU GOING TO TELL ME ABOUT THIS??"

"Rivi," I put a hand on hers, a little baffled by her over-the-top reaction. "I like just found out about this. After I woke up, with the new system?" I phrased it as a question hoping she would remember what I told her about just getting a new one from Noe. "The new system apparently freed the fragment which Draugner installed in me, allowing it to gain sentience."

"Oh," She relaxed her grip on me a little as she looked thoughtful. "Wait, DRAUGNER DID WHAT TO YOU???"

I facepalmed, feeling suddenly very weary. "How did Noe not tell you about this…I guess the system runs on divine fragments from Daugner's domain? Honestly Noe didn't explain it all that thoroughly, and I haven't had time to really think about it yet."

"Noe," Rivi ground her teeth, then suddenly spun and turned to her system window.

[Rivi: NO! I COULD NEVER FORGIVE YOU!!!!!]

I looked at the message a little embarrassed, but tried to hide it when Rivi looked up at me, still flushed with anger.

[Developer: .·°՞(っ-ᯅ-ς)՞°·.]

[???: Awww, Rivi how could you bully poor Ms. Developer?]

[Rivi: Shut up! You don't know what I've been through!!! Centuries!! Centuries locked up like a prisoner and then you don't even tell me basic pieces of information about my new friend <( ⸝⸝•̀ - •́⸝⸝)>]

[???: Ms. Developer is this true!??]

[Developer:...]

[Developer: Well it's not, not true…]

Haha, I picked up the remainder of my steak as I enjoyed the show.

[Developer: But listen, little bean, I had good reasons ok?]

[???: Well? What were they? And who exactly is she that you could lock her up for centuries!?]

I leaned forwards eager to spice up the argument.

[Silvie: Rivi is one of Developer's parallel minds]

[???: !????]

[???: Weren't you the one talking about how you needed to give your parallel minds freedom!??]

[Developer:....]

[Developer: I did say that…]

[Developer: But listen! I have an organization to run here. Rivi spilled vital secrets to our enemies and led us to a huge strategic loss. Naturally I had to dole out a little punishment. And…Well she's always been a bit silly, I hoped a little time out would help clear her head.]

[???: A few centuries is a little timeout!?]

[Rivi: A bit silly!? a BIT SILLY!??? YOU'VE ALWAYS TREATED ME LIKE A CHILD WHY CAN'T YOU TRUST ME FOR ONCE!?????]

[???: Indeed this punishment does seem excessive…]

[Developer: Ok, who are you guys to judge me? I'll have you know I'm a top-tier divinity worshipped by a whole continent. My decisions are above reproach!]

[Rivi: Like hell they are]

[???: Like hell they are]

[Silvie:... ah]

[Developer: Don't you do it too!!!]

[Silvie: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯]

[Developer: Well, whatever, I'm closing the chat now. I've got important God things to do, unlike you chumps]

[Administrator has terminated the group chat]

"Woah!" I was a little taken aback that she actually deleted the whole channel.

"She even terminated my access point!" Rivi looked up furious. "I can't even get back in to torment her more!" She clenched her fist tightly.

"Ah, Rivi, calm down. We don't want an out of control Spider Dragon in here." I put a hand on her shoulder where two black wings were starting to burst out of her back.

She took a deep breath. "Fine, whatever." She kicked a nearby ice crystal, sending it spinning into a distant stalagmite. "I guess it's all kinda in the past now. But still! Why does she have to be so irritating about it?"

"Well," I rubbed her back trying to play the peacemaker now. "It's not like we made things easy for her." In my mind what just happened was more a joke argument than a real one. After all how was the divine Melphinoe supposed to explain her actions to us? Normally her dignity made her reproachable in everything, but the character she played in our little system chat was far more approachable, and hence far more vulnerable to criticism. Probably she'd never really been criticized like that except for the easy-to-look-down-on Rivi.

After all, if only one person ever criticized you and she's also an adorable silly little bean who makes lots of mistakes, surely it's her who's wrong, right? In truth, I saw both sides of the argument: The stern and dignified godhead punishing her subordinate for a slip up and trying to reform her into a more dependable agent. The silly, over-eager girl who may have slipped up, but wants nothing more than the freedom to make her own mistakes.

In truth, Rivi didn't seem to truly belong to the Goddess' organization, but she really had nowhere else to go, and her actions couldn't help but influence the politics of the Goddess she was still technically a part of. Outside the dungeon she seemed to cause nothing but trouble for them. Inside the dungeon, she was safe, albeit confined.

Well, it wasn't really my problem, and for now Rivi had her freedom, so why not just enjoy it?

"So?" I picked up Rufi and began to pet her. "What now? Got anything you want to do now that we know your sisters are off our back?"

Rivi crossed her arms, still frowning at the memory of the argument with Noe. "I don't know, it'd be nice to travel a bit. Show you some of my favorite parts of the Lost Continent. Now that we don't have to go undercover we can hit some of the big tourist destinations."

"Oh? They have those here? Well, it sounds great. Screw gods, demon kings, and heroes. Let's just enjoy ourselves a while."

Rivi smirked and summoned a glass full of what looked like water. "Cheers to that." She raised her glass.
