"The Extra's Progression"

Chapter 67: Modus Operandi [1]

As soon as Jeanne dismissed them, both of them headed straight back to their rooms. It was already afternoon, and the academy hallways were quieter as the classes were still ongoing.

Raviel was in his room, half bending into his messy wardrobe, searching for some wearable clothes.

"Would they give us clothes to wear? Or should I bring them myself." He muttered as he set aside a pile of clothes.

"Fuck, she didn't even say how long would this mission last."

With a sigh, he moved towards his minibar and shoved five cans of energy drinks and three chocolate bars into his storage ring.

"Haa! Finally all done..."

Just as he was going to head out, he spotted his console lying casually on the couch. He picked it up and weighed it in his hand, then shrugged and dropped it into the storage ring.

"She did say travel light, right?".

Raviel measured the weight of the storage ring on his index finger — it felt light.

"Yep, all good!"

Seeing the tiny storage ring, he finally noticed something and grew surprised.

"Seriously," he muttered, "this ring can fit way more than it should."

Satisfied enough, Raviel stepped out of his room and into the corridor.

Near the elevator, he spotted Ezio standing there, head slightly lowered, eyes fixed on his phone.

Raviel walked up beside him and spoke casually, "Chatting with Isabelle, huh? While she's still in class?"

Ezio barely reacted at first, then shook his head lightly. "You could say that."

When he finally looked up, he caught Raviel smirking, he nearly fumbled — almost dropping the phone.

'The hell', Ezio thought, 'was he always this talkative, and why does everyone think we are a couple?'

Raviel stepped into the lift without waiting. After a brief pause, Ezio followed him inside, the doors sliding shut behind them as the elevator began to descend.

As they walked towards Jeanne's office, both of them stayed quiet.

After meeting with Jeanne, she led both of them to the academy's southern side.

Reaching the open ground, both Ezio and Raviel were bewildered by the scenery. The place looked almost unreal. Sphere shaped research buildings were scattered around like bubbles on water, the thick forest wrapped the entire area. The sky seemed even more vivid.

Raviel slowed a little and glanced around.

'…This place really doesn't feel like part of the academy.'

Before both of them could ask any questions.

Whiirr—!!

A helicopter descended from the sky, the wind from its blades flattening the grass and shaking the nearby trees. Dust and leaves flew everywhere as it landed neatly on the open ground.

Raviel looked at Jeanne, then gave a small nod, like he was approving the transport choice.

'She really is loaded', Raviel thought.

Jeanne crossed her arms and spoke sharply,

"Do whatever you want once you're out there. I don't care how you do it — just get the mission completed."

Then she tilted her head toward the helicopter.

"Well then? What are you waiting for? Get inside."

The helicopter doors slid open with a heavy sound. Raviel stepped in first, Ezio following right after him. The doors closed behind them, sealing them inside as the engine began to hum louder, ready to lift off.

Swooosh—!!!

Seeing the helicopter rising up in the air, Jeanne smiled faintly. "One of my troubles should be gone by now."

....

Inside the helicopter, Raviel and Ezio sat opposite to each other, seprated by a small divider — like a first class seat on a luxury plane. The seats were wide and padded with soft leather, the walls had a rich finish.

Raviel leaned back in his seat. "Comfy..."

While...

Ezio searched the small cabinet near his seat and popped open a can of sparkling water.

Raviel just stared at him as he drank, neither of them had raised the divider, so now both of them could see clearly what they were doing.

About ten minutes later, they were well above the clouds.

The turbulence was mild as the helicopter was one of the most highest caliber of mode of transport.

Raviel turned his head toward the window. White clouds stretched endlessly below them, glowing softly under the sunlight. The view was almost magical.

Ding—!!

Then both of their Arctics vibrated at the same time.

Raviel glanced down and saw a message notification from Jeanne.

[ Mission Details Received. ]

Seeing the clouds from the window for the last time, Raviel clicked on the file.

Reading all the information, Raviel frowned. "Still it doesn't answer about how will we even get close to him."

"So we are basically going to sin in a holy place." Raviel muttered while rubbing his forehead. "Haaa...."

He tilted his head and saw Ezio reading on his Arctic with focused expression.

"Hey! Ezio, I am going along with Rafael. What about you?"

"...."

"Aah!.." Ezio's eyes widened as he understood what he meant by that.

"Cool, I'll be going with Eiður, then."

Before he could move his head, Ezio questioned.

"What do you think about this? Is this mission going to be hard?"

Raviel thought for a while, after thinking for some time he spoke. "I guess it will depend on how quickly we become closer with our target."

"I see.."

Both of them didn't speak for a while, as each one of them started thinking of different ways in which they could finish the mission.
