I Have a Dice Left by a God

Chapter 62: The Enemy of My Enemy Is My Friend

Back at the Lirong, Li Xin sneezed as he passed Old Moulton's stall. Old Moulton was busy, while Little Moulton was studying inside the tent. He placed the packed food to the side and made a shushing gesture, "Dinner from the Saint Grace Canon Law School, give it a try."

Upon hearing the name of Saint Grace Canon Law School, Little Moulton's face lit up with surprise and excitement. For a low-class civilian, the Canon Law School was the ultimate dream. Its greatest function was not to give opportunities to the noble and wealthy—they never lacked chances and were always in the first echelon in any form—but to provide a bit of possibility for commoners to transcend class.

And this slim possibility brought immense hope to many people.

Little Moulton mouthed "thank you," and Li Xin waved his hand, gesturing for more meat. The two shared a knowing smile.

The longer Li Xin stayed in Dao Yuan, the more he realized that Luthor's two major feats—Hex-Tech and the Canon Law School—were genuinely changing this continent, truly transforming people's lives.

When Li Xin returned to the Lirong Inn, Estella arrived at the gates of Withered Wood Monastery. Once outside the city, Keli's speed was swift. The rugged and complex mountain paths seemed smooth, and even the usually deserted and somewhat dangerous dense forests became harmonious more than ever.

As Estella arrived, the enormous door of Withered Wood Monastery automatically opened. Holding Keli and carrying a basket, she slipped inside in a flash. The gigantic door closed slowly, seemingly isolating her from the world.

Inside the monastery, there were no servants, only nuns—both old and young. Even the Princess had to be self-sufficient here, though Estella didn't mind. She relished the freedom of not being watched.

Arriving at her room, she first activated her spiritual ability to remove the mask, following her master's method, and placed it in a wooden box. She repeatedly looked at her reflection in the mirror. Hmm, no change. To say she wasn't worried would be false; girls care about their looks. Moreover, it was a secret item, so she remembered the taboos her master mentioned. Many changes when using secret items are irreversible, and even if reversible, would come at a huge cost. This was not something to be taken lightly.

These thoughts were quickly pushed aside as Estella hummed a tune and began fetching water for a bath. Her mood was great. The mountain water was refreshing and smooth.

Meeting Mr. Gemini could only be described as half intentional and half accidental. Although she wanted to meet him, she had no intention of prying into his privacy. When Celestia invited her to the Lirong, she agreed, hoping for a chance encounter.

During their casual chat in the carriage, Estella learned that Li Xin came from the Celestial Capital and had arrived recently.

A chef who could create unique dishes from his hometown, a writer capable of penning excellent novels, better than Simmons George even, and someone who could provide guidance, also from Celestial Capital, skilled in unique instruments—it all made sense. In Li Xin's simple and sincere descriptions with Chris, they seemed similar. The word "unremarkable" was a bit too much.

Estella did not intend to expose this; it was fine as it was. Celestia was her real-world friend, and Mr. Gemini was her secret world friend. She didn't want identity to change anything.

Everyone at the Round Table Conference was unique, and Mr. Gemini must have been an adventurer traveling across Dao Yuan Continent to know so much. It was quite an admirable feat.

Keli lay on the table, squinting. Estella tested the water temperature—it was a bit cold. The monastery was much cooler than outside, but the chill was still comfortable. Slowly taking off her nun's clothes, revealing her flawless body, it was a blessing from the Earth Mother Goddess to the Ola lineage, full of allure. She touched her full chest; perhaps it was an illusion, but it seemed slightly larger again, which made Estella a bit troubled. She muttered to herself, "Please don't grow anymore, it's easy to sweat when it's hot."

A simple worry of a young girl made the modest room feel rather romantic.

The sound of water splashing and her singing brought a touch of vitality to the otherwise dull monastery. Estella was thinking about how to sneak out again. The monastery... occasional visits were fine, but visiting often would surely raise her mother's suspicion. It seemed her mother didn't particularly like the Withered Wood Monastery. Luckily, this excuse allowed her to skip church prayers.

Most of the royal family didn't like it here, but she felt its existence was unique—a life should involve seeing different scenery.

Diligent worker Li Xin sat in front of the typewriter, having sat there for a while. Somehow, he felt sleepy again. After yawning, he decided to take a short nap. Resting well was important to maintain good memory and not miss exciting parts, especially since today must have drained him at the Holy Land.

Zzzzz...

...

Outside, birds chirped crisply. The warm sunlight was comfortably cozy, making one want to snuggle up in this warmth.

Knock knock knock knock...

Li Xin was startled awake by the noisy sounds. Upon opening his eyes, he saw that pesky owl. Apparently, the owl didn't like him either. Struggling, he got up and opened the window. The owl looked at him sideways, dropped a letter, and flapped away.

This was definitely intentional.

"One day, I'll make you into a skewer!" Li Xin picked up the letter... another meeting...

It's said the more a company likes meetings, the quicker it goes under. What is it the Hex Bird Report wants to do? When he first arrived, there weren't this many things.

Could it be they are going to issue royalties?

Thinking of this, Li Xin smiled, pleased. It should be the case. After all, he had been with the company for quite some time. He worked hard. Surely, he deserved some reward, even if a little.

Excitedly, Li Xin skipped breakfast and immediately took a convertible to No. 85, 309 Mahler Street. Watching the bustling workers of the Bird Society, Li Xin knew it wouldn't collapse anytime soon, which was good.

Upon arriving at the editor's office, Old Wu pointed inside and smiled, "Go on in, the president is in a good mood today."

"Thanks, Brother Wu, let's have a drink sometime." Li Xin knew the other was giving him a hint.

"You always say it but never do it. Find a free day, and I'll treat you," Wusu laughed. He found Li Xin quite likable and knew that since he had just arrived, he was probably tight on cash and hadn't received his salary yet, so he didn't take advantage of him.

When Li Xin got to the office, Ma Zhe was savoring coffee and murmuring contentedly. Judging by his expression, something good must have happened. Could it be Utopia Mountain's Tale of Revenge was selling well?

"Li Xin, you're here! Looking sharp, young man, it seems Hedan agrees with you!" Ma Zhe laughed.

"President, ever since I returned to the embrace of the organization, I feel like I'm growing rapidly every day, full of energy and enthusiasm, all thanks to your excellent leadership," Li Xin said.

Ma Zhe, who had been overwhelmed with Bird Society matters lately, almost forgot about Li Xin. If all employees were as understanding as Li Xin, he'd be much less worried. "It's all for the Moon God. I heard you met Travis through Simmons' connection. Any findings?"

"Yes, President, I looked at some firsthand files. Our data is too limited; it was Miss Christie's hint that led Simmons to take me there."

"Very good. As expected from an excellent Bird Society reporter. Keep consolidating ties with Simmons, but also watch Travis carefully. Our two families are close; he might be monitoring us from within the Funeral Attendant as well. Tell me about your findings," Ma Zhe inquired.

Li Xin recounted his experiences upon entering the Funeral Attendant Base in great detail, focusing on painting a vivid picture while leaving certain elements deliberately unspoken for his boss to judge.

"Isaac is indeed dead. The Church wouldn't let such a heretic survive; no one can bear that responsibility. However, his experiment notes might have leaked. Such things are typically not destroyed by the Church; anything related to resurrection and creation is surely sealed away as a forbidden item. You'll find out upon checking," Ma Zhe said, sipping his coffee with a vibrant expression. The new beans had a delightful sun-kissed taste.

"Are you saying the Earth Church hid the truth... wanting to create humans?" Li Xin felt confused. His dice speculated someone was experimenting with artificial humans, and they hadn't been wrong yet, unless he misunderstood. And the notes were inside the Earth Mother Goddess Court. What kind of madness is this? Fanatical followers undermining their deities?

"Mind your words. Such authority doesn't belong to the gods but the Creator God, and it doesn't align with the supreme will's rules. There must be hidden motives here. Travis wouldn't reveal everything either. Burning a few culprits appeased the populace and bought time for further investigations," Ma Zhe said.

"The president seems happy; is something good happening?" Li Xin asked.

"Haha, no wonder Christie praises your sharpness. Starting this week, we at the Hex Bird Report have reporting rights equal to the Hedan Daily!" He said, pulling a cigar from a drawer and giving Li Xin a look, "Want one?"

"Thanks, Boss," Li Xin didn't hesitate; such opportunities were rare.

Ma Zhe was in high spirits; he had resolved the Hex Bird Report's biggest crisis. Organ harvests were only the beginning, but they had directly halved the Hex Bird Report's sales. Given another month, the report would have to shut down. Back then, Hedan Daily was nothing, merely imitators. Now, they even dream of acquiring them; let them dream on.

Ma Zhe personally lit the cigar and handed it to Li Xin, "You contributed to this success as well."

"Ah?" Li Xin was momentarily stunned.

"Simmons must genuinely value you—a member of the Black Rose with quite the presence in Hedan. But no matter what benefits they offer, remember you are one of the Night Patrol," Ma Zhe stated, realizing Li Xin's importance.

"The George Family decided to invest in our Hex Bird Report. The terms are good. During negotiations, Count George mentioned you; they're keen on partnering with us. Oh, and Hedan Daily is backed by the Zheng Family, making them enemies of our enemies, essentially friends."

Simmons sure is impressive. Of course, the George Family's investment wasn't just because of him. The president must have been strategizing for a while, looking for a powerful ally. His time with Simmons, especially that meal at Ivory Bay, hinted at complexity within.

"All thanks to the president's wise decisions. I'm just a nail for the Night Patrol, driven where needed."

"Good. With Old Luo's endorsement, I trust you unconditionally," Ma Zhe nodded approvingly.

This kid has commendable self-awareness; multiple tests and investigations proved stable.

For a minor player, it wouldn't matter much, but Li Xin's growing importance demands close attention to loyalty. As for Luo Jin, although deceased, his influence on the Night Patrol is immense. Zhao Family and the Archbishop issues are merely brushed over externally, but internally, it cannot be hidden. Luo Jin was the real hero, sacrificing with resilience to safeguard the Night Patrol's essence.

Under the moonlit night, Justice endures.

What the higher-ups disregard might be the last dignity for those below.
