The waiter arrived with drinks, David placed a tip on the tray, cheerfully pouring for everyone.
"Come, let's welcome David's return," Mr. Kan said.
Cheers~~~
With the strong liquor downed, a hint of awkwardness disappeared instantly, the atmosphere came to life, and everyone was happy. David began recounting to everyone his thrilling experiences at sea. Their destination this time was a mysterious island on the ocean, and those selected were adventurers and mercenaries ranked very high in the Adventurer Association with unique skills, of which he was one.
"Treasure?" Old Fang asked, "How much did you share?"
"Not treasure. I thought it was treasure at first, but in the end, I realized it was a map," David said.
"A treasure map?" Dalivin was curious, no man can resist the allure of a treasure map.
"More formidable than a treasure map. It's said that once completed, the map can resurrect the dead. I guess it involves divine power or a divine artifact. Damn it, we ended up empty-handed, but the boss still rewarded us handsomely. Rich people are hard to understand, and I still have a chance for the next adventure." David munched on the popping beans, a specialty snack with drinks in Hedan.
"David, be cautious with such secretive missions, the stakes are high, and danger is equally great," Dalivin advised, "Being a mercenary requires continuous patience."
"Haha, it has nothing to do with the mission; I just love the adrenaline rush of adventures. The unknown makes me feel my heart beat, making it irresistible like a beautiful woman; money doesn't matter," David said boldly.
Dalivin and others admired him but couldn't agree, not sharing the same mindset at all. Li Xin felt that David's lifestyle was rather thrilling, reminiscent of people from his past life who were very fond of a certain red bull.
A bunch of men drinking without boasting definitely have some issues. After David bragged, Dalivin boasted, claiming a noblewoman fancied him, enticing him multiple times, and he couldn't resist. Then, Old Fang asked how much he earned; he said it was free, which led to mockery from everyone, questioning who truly benefited.
Dalivin's face turned red with embarrassment, Li Xin's face also blushed slightly.
While the commotion was ongoing, screams came from outside the bar. Amidst the bustling bar with occasional music performances, these screams abruptly interrupted the scene, initially thought to be an accident, but the screaming continued, leading many to head outside, Li Xin and his companions followed suit.
Outside, a row of luxurious carriages stopped at some point, a man surrounded in the center, a meticulously dressed sexy woman shivered on the ground, while the man was being stabbed by several surrounding nobles with swords.
The surrounding guests, having drunk, were outraged by such incidents but dared not really step forward to intervene; it wasn't the first time this had happened. The Blue Bird Bar's patrons mainly consisted of merchants or small nobles, or former nobles. The carriages bore family crests visible to those present; even if unknown, the discussions around identified them.
The couple had come out for fun, ready to leave after drinking when they ran into four nobles arriving. One noble began pestering and teasing, the man instinctively resisted a few words, leading to trouble. The four then surrounded the man for reasoning; as long as the man couldn't promptly respond, a noble from behind would stab him with a sword, not target crucial spots, but just playfully stab.
This is probably the game Miss Aries mentioned of the Hunting Enjoyment Club; the four derived immense joy from the man's pleas and the woman's shivering, intending not only to play the man but also the woman, first playing the man before her eyes, then the woman before the man's eyes.
These people don't lack women; they lack moods and excitement; the expressions of the men and women are the focal point.
The night's game was just beginning.
The Hunting Enjoyment Club isn't foolish; they wouldn't go to truly top-tier places, where attendees often have backgrounds, potentially causing trouble. Poor areas aren't interesting, too low-end; the middle-class and affluent sectors are the most fun targets, providing moderate standards, a bit of rebellious spirit, but lacking real combat ability, making them ideal targets. Of course, if the man were like David, they likely wouldn't choose him as a target.
The unbearable harassment and abuse resonated deeply with the crowd, yet these guys were cunning, continually mentioning the man's offense and insult, leading the man to bleed soon after.
Suddenly a series of explosions occurred, all the lights in the Blue Bird Bar shattered, enveloping the entire establishment in darkness. The red moon in the sky seemed obscured by something, someone yelled to beat these heartless entities, igniting suppressed bloodlust. With a leader, a group instantly rushed forward, catching the four nobles off guard. One had decent skills, but the opponents were better trained. The four were quickly overwhelmed, their abused emotions erupting at that moment, quickly rendering the nobles incapable of resisting, and an order to scatter sent the attackers scrambling.
A few minutes later, the sky cleared, the red moon brightened again; although the lights were out, the moonlight improved visibility greatly. The four, beaten beyond recognition, barely breathing, remained while the harassed couple vanished, leaving behind the empty bar with stunned waiters.
David and his group quickly fled; the drinks were invigorating, enjoyed freely and accompanied by a heroic deed. David had yelled, but amid many attackers, specifics were forgotten. When it seemed sufficient, David called to run, though he disguised his voice during the call. Mercenaries walking the world master various life-saving tricks, departing with the assaulted couple; the man's injuries were mostly superficial and not life-threatening.
Reaching safety, the group breathed out contentedly, only then realizing one person was missing.
"Oh no, where's Old Fang? We forgot him," David slapped his forehead, too caught up in the thrill, considering Old Fang's limited mobility not allowing him far.
"What should we do, go back and check?" Dalivin asked; though not brave, artists are known for their loyalty.
"Forget it, sending a dumpling to the dog, I'll go check," David said, since Old Fang once saved half his life.
Li Xin chuckled, pointing ahead, "Perhaps no need."
At the corner, Old Fang emerged with his cane, "You young ones are impulsive, let's move quickly; the city guard might search."
"Whoa, Old Fang, you've got skills; you foresaw this?" David chuckled.
"Haha, I guessed... nonsense, saw your clenched fist and knew trouble would follow, so took a step ahead, waiting here for you, left no trace?" Old Fang inquired.
"Relax, no idea who did it, lights went out, pitch black, barely visible outlines, besides dozens participated, seems even bartenders took a kick, these beasts don't deserve respect," David replied.
"Did the saved couple see you clearly?" Old Fang, experienced in wandering the world, knew many ungrateful people; some were forced, but results were rarely ideal.
"Haha, I covered my face with a napkin, maintaining a sense of caution when mingling," David stated proudly. "Alright, we're all here, let's go."
"Good... good... satisfying!" Ma Liu expressed, clenching his thin fists, having joined in kicking.
The group laughed while leaving, the beaten nobles didn't remain long as their coachmen, caught off guard, were usually kept at a distance during these escapades. Realizing the dire condition, hurried away in chaos.
At Li Long Inn, David already yawned and snored sleeping flat out, regretting it wasn't complete without a sexy voluptuous lady to embrace.
With David and Old Fang, seasoned wanderers, the group handled things according to instructions, even aligned their testimonies, just in case.
Li Xin continued carving his wooden fish, considering the process, believing no obvious trace was left.
Seemingly, their time in Hedan was too short, significant issues surfaced within the vast kingdom, substantial and bloated parasites, deeply attached to the noble class and the Kingdom, making removal difficult, likely leaving the King largely sidelined. Taking so long to deal with Anthony, how shall the just Ola the Eighteenth maintain fairness?
