I Have a Dice Left by a God

Chapter 147: Mother Goddess School

The second family was a merchant family, whose child went missing during the Grace Class, and the hired coachman also died, causing the family to collapse.

During their return visit, the merchant couple calmly entertained Li Xin and Travis.

"Captain Travis, thank you. We will fully cooperate with whatever is needed, as long as it helps catch the culprit," said Lance. The couple was dressed very neatly and tidily.

"Mr. Lance, are you going out?" Travis asked.

"Yes, you're here just in time, we were about to leave. We're going to volunteer at the Mother Goddess School. Captain Travis, you and your people should come if you have the time. It can help those in need," Lance sincerely invited.

Beside him, Mrs. Lance also smiled gently, "Captain Travis, you're a significant figure. If you could come, you would definitely help more people."

"I'll come if I have time," Travis nodded. "I remember you two frequently came to us at the Funeral Attendant earlier, demanding the culprit be caught. Why haven't you come recently? Have you given up?"

"Captain, we haven't given up. Of course, we want the culprit caught, but we've reflected on our behavior. Screaming and causing a ruckus at City Hall and the Funeral Attendant only disrupts the investigation. We believe the Funeral Attendant will catch the culprit, just like they caught Anthony, that demon. We look forward to the day when the truth comes out," Lance said sincerely. "If you need me for anything, just let me know."

"How's your business going lately, Mr. Lance?" Travis suddenly asked.

"My wife and I don't plan on wasting the rest of our lives making money. We realized ignoring the truly important people led to this situation. We want to spend our remaining time doing more meaningful things, helping the poor and the injured. The Mother Goddess brought us to this world not for harm, but for redemption. Actually, catching the culprit was never about harming them. We just want to tell them in person that we forgive them. What the world needs isn't harm but more love," Lance said, clasping his hands over his chest. "Thank the Mother Goddess."

Beside him, Mrs. Lance also clasped her hands devoutly, "Thank the Mother Goddess."

"Thank the Mother Goddess, and thank you for your cooperation. If there's anything you need, you can find me at the Funeral Attendant in the Holy Grace District," Travis said.

"Thank you, Captain Travis."

The couple saw Travis and Li Xin off to the carriage, continuing to wave as it departed, while Li Xin and Travis sat in silence on the carriage.

"Did you sense any strange power?" Travis asked.

"No," Li Xin shook his head. "They seem more normal than normal people, and their physical and mental states are quite good."

"Yes, can you believe these two previously stormed into the Funeral Attendant with knives? Mrs. Lance even ran naked at the entrance," Travis said.

Li Xin was taken aback; this change was too drastic. Apart from brainwashing, he couldn't think of anything else that could achieve this. "What kind of place is the Mother Goddess School?"

"It's a charity organization established by Marquis William in the name of the Earth Mother Goddess. They collect donations from nobles and wealthy merchants, then donate to the Canon Law School, set up scholarships for the Grace Class, build orphanages, and offer temporary shelter to the homeless every Sunday, with free meals and lodging. They must be volunteering there. They also organize spiritual classes, inviting priests and even bishops to console the wounded and help them overcome their pain. The William family is a highly esteemed family in Hedan. If it weren't for the rule of not promoting without major achievements, he would've been Duke William by now," Travis explained.

Li Xin nodded, but his first instinct was that there was something wrong with this charity organization, a reflex from his previous life.

All perfection is to cover up greater evil, without exception.

Considering the situation with the previous two families, it seemed even more suspect, but such matters shouldn't be spoken rashly. He felt that Travis probably also had some suspicions, but even if it were him, even the second prince couldn't investigate without evidence.

He and Travis visited several more families, immersed in work without even stopping to eat, finishing the last family by evening.

"Join me at the Funeral Attendant for a bite?" Travis passed a cigarette to Li Xin.

Li Xin nodded, pocketing the cigarette but not lighting it.

The food at the Funeral Attendant was indeed better than the Night Patrol's; in Celestial Capital, were it not for the Little Rich Lady, with Old Luo's character he would probably have had a tough time.

"Did all these people change their mindset because they went to the Mother Goddess School?" Li Xin asked while eating, feeling that Travis intentionally took him there today.

Travis nodded, both of them eating quickly and vigorously, chewing in large bites. "Marquis William's Mother Goddess School has always been doing this kind of work, helping many people. It all seems very normal, and helping these victims' families makes sense. From the result, they indeed no longer suffer."

"But from the motive, he's inadvertently helping the culprit?" Li Xin said.

"To achieve this without using spells requires faith. I'm surprised the Mother Goddess School does what even the church cannot," Travis said.

"Didn't you say priests and bishops go to help these people?"

"Yes, but only at the Mother Goddess School can it be done. Don't you find that strange?"

"The church probably isn't as specialized. The Mother Goddess School focuses more on helping the victims. I noticed they tidied themselves well. Attention to appearance indicates a stable mood," Li Xin pointed out. "Perhaps only faith can achieve this."

All these people held a strong belief in the Earth Mother Goddess. Only a cult or deep personal faith could have this effect. In Hedan, it would be far-fetched to think any cult could operate so openly. But if it's the Earth Mother Goddess, any outcome is deemed correct.

Travis sighed, "I know I shouldn't doubt, but years of experience make me think there's an issue here. But as Funeral Attendants, we can't investigate the nobility, nor can we probe Church Court-affiliated organizations. So, I would like to enlist the Night Patrol's help."

Li Xin understood Travis's suspicions, as he also harbored doubts. Travis probably knew his thoughts too, "I'll report this to my superiors, but I can't guarantee what decision they'll make."

"I know. I'll figure something out my side as well," Travis said. "But at present, the main focus of the Funeral Attendant is on waiting for the culprit to strike again. If the Night Patrol could follow this lead, it would greatly relieve our burden."

"Do you think they will make a move soon?"

"Exactly. Dark Cuisine is addictive; it must involve a certain group. Once it's gone, situations like Anthony's are bound to happen, so they'll definitely act," Travis said.

"Can't they operate from other cities?" Li Xin asked.

"Probably not. First, not everyone has the skill to prepare Dark Cuisine. Secondly, the ingredients likely have specific demands. The culprit hiding in Hedan probably has special intentions. Also, the Funeral Attendant's monitoring in surrounding cities has found no issues," Travis explained.

Li Xin knew the Funeral Attendant had certainly undertaken a lot of work, and he admired their dedication.
