I Have a Dice Left by a God

Chapter 43: Eau de Ancient Dragon

At noon, Li Xin was summoned back to the Night Patrol and met Luo Jin, who had a serious expression, "You know about the situation; yesterday morning, a kid from the Divine Grace Class went missing. A witness saw some strange fog. The perpetrator has gone mad. We've been given the final ultimatum. Any ideas you have, just speak up!"

Kathy briefly introduced the recent developments in the case again. Li Xin listened intently and, after thinking for a while, said, "The Inhaler's previous identity should have been an expert and is familiar with the situation in both the city and the Underground City. Not only that, they have anti-investigation methods, and they might even be very familiar with the patrol habits inside the city."

From the incident to the discovery, the suspect perfectly avoided the city patrol guard, which was too coincidental. Recently, due to the pursuit of the murderer, there have been some changes in the patrol arrangements of the city guard.

"Are you saying the Inhaler is an insider?" Luo Jin frowned.

"It's possible. Of course, it's also possible that the person scouted the area beforehand. But judging by the prolonged actions, the possibility of being a professional is higher," Li Xin said, "Can we go to the crime scene and take a look?"

It had already been a day; Luo Jin didn't expect to find anything, but there were no other options. Luo Jin took Li Xin and Kathy to set off. Kurt from the nearby Fifth Squad was also investigating, but the witness only saw the fog and nothing else, leaving no traces.

Li Xin and Luo Jin arrived at the location, walked around the street where the mist appeared, and found nothing of use with the Magic Eye, "Any suspicious people appeared, like bystanders?"

Fan Jia scratched his head, "There were a lot of bystanders yesterday, nothing special."

"Do you think the culprit would return to the scene?" Luo Jin asked.

"Yes, the person we're dealing with is very smart, and since they feel they succeeded in toying with us, a person with such a character is highly likely to return to the scene, partly to satisfy their twisted mind and partly to see if they left any clues," Li Xin said.

Fan Jia's face changed, "Damn, what should we do, with so many people, how do we judge?"

"It's too late to say this now," Kathy said, "Ah Xin, is there any other way?"

"Was there anything left at the crime scene?" Li Xin asked, "Surely every crime cannot disappear without a trace?"

"Yes, the missing child's backpack," Fan Jia said, "But we've checked it, there are no traces."

"The backpack?"

Not long after, a sealed bag was brought over, which relieved Li Xin; the Night Patrol paid great attention to the evidence.

Li Xin, wearing gloves, opened it. It was a common backpack from the Divine Grace Class. The contents inside were normal, and the outside of the backpack was a bit dirty but had no bloodstains.

This place didn't really do fingerprint testing, and even if they did, it wouldn't necessarily be of use. Another clue had broken...

Just as Li Xin was about to speak, a strong premonition surged up in his heart, and the dice were shaking. What did it mean?

"Uncle Luo, I need to use the restroom."

Fan Jia was amused and exasperated; this kid was probably nervous, then pointed Li Xin in the direction, "It's out of sight there, just make do."

Li Xin jogged to a secluded corner of the street, extended his hand, and the dice appeared.

Judgment: There is a clue from the perpetrator on the backpack.

The dice rolled and quickly settled. Li Xin's gaze turned sharp; it was a 7, a valid judgment!

This meant there was indeed a clue present. From his experience, such clues couldn't directly solve the case but could provide significant assistance.

Li Xin immediately returned to the scene and learned that Luo Jin had arrived and Kurt was back, reporting the latest investigation results to Luo Jin.

"We've asked everyone around and didn't see anyone suspicious. The Divine Grace Class usually has excellent security nearby, and recently there has been enhanced patrol. The Pale Eye noticed nothing, and no one lied."

When Spiritual Ability reaches a certain level of cultivation, a new power awakens, the Magic Eye, with common types including Red Eye, Pale Eye, Netherworld Eye, and Dark Gold Eye. The Pale Eye's ability is insight and tracking, capturing extremely subtle spiritual ability clues. It's a specialty of the Night Patrol. That there's no clue even in the city, let alone in the Underground City, is indeed rare.

Li Xin searched the backpack again, and Kurt saw Li Xin, his temporary team member, wondering why the kid was there too, "Hey, hey, kid, didn't you go to Canon Law School for a few days and become a great detective, be careful not to damage the evidence."

The clue is there, it must be, it's not spiritual ability, but visible to the eye. Then what could it be?

Li Xin's nose twitched slightly, as if there was a faint scent, "Did any of you use perfume?"

Everyone was stunned. A bunch of rough guys wouldn't wear perfume.

"Who uses that stuff?" Then they all looked at Kathy.

Kathy waved her hand, "I used to like it a lot, but the captain didn't, so I stopped. Why?"

"It seems to be on this backpack," Li Xin said.

Luo Jin and the others' expressions changed and crowded around. Their noses twitched, but they couldn't smell anything, while Kathy moved them aside and sniffed with her little nose, "Ranca Eternal No. 6, special lavender blend, an obsession of an old noble's, elegant and lasting."

The scene fell silent for a moment. Kathy nodded, "There's no mistake. This kind of Eau de Cologne is slightly faint but long-lasting and has a calming effect, expensive too."

This reached Little Rich Lady's area of expertise, "Who had contact with this backpack?" Luo Jin asked.

"Only a few from the Night Patrol, but our people definitely wouldn't use this," Kurt's eyes lit up, "The perpetrator's?"

"Highly possible," Li Xin said, "The suspect's status is not low. In the recent investigation at the scene, were there any people of high status appearing?"

Luo Jin and Kurt fell into thought; suddenly, they looked at each other, their expressions turning grave, having been seen by Li Xin and Kathy.

"Montreal!" they said in unison, "Impossible!"

"Who is Montreal?" Li Xin asked, seeing the two's enormous reaction.

"One of the three squad captains of the City Guard, Viscount Montreal," Kathy was surprised, covering her small mouth. If the Licker was him, the matter would indeed be serious, but it all made sense suddenly. As a member of the City Guard, Mundra had the city defense map, and he himself was also a Spiritual Ability expert, meaning nothing in or out of the city was a secret to him.

Luo Jin also recollected, "Did he have contact after the incident?"

"To my memory, no, he just appeared at the scene to ask about the situation and then left," Kurt said, "The City Guard just collaborated on this case. Now that you mentioned it, he really did have a fragrance."

"Kurt, immediately send someone... No, you go yourself to keep an eye on him. Don't alert him; he's an expert, mind that. He's now the prime suspect!"

There was no time for hesitation. Although lacking hard evidence, Luo Jin already had ninety percent certainty. Verification was needed afterward. The suspect is not just any noble, but one wielding real power, which isn't someone you can apprehend easily.

"Understood, boss, I'll go right away!" Kurt was excited. Damn, a big fish, this bastard stirred up the Celestial Capital like crazy.

"Li Xin, return to the Canon Law School and act as if nothing happened. Kathy, go back to the Night Patrol and stand by; we may need your help later," Luo Jin said, finally relaxing his stern face, "Also, don't tell anyone about Li Xin's discovery."

Kurt and Kathy had faces full of surprise. If successful, this would be a great accomplishment, so why let him leave now? Everyone knew Luo Jin's special regard for this kid was quite unusual.

"Alright, Uncle Luo, I'll head back then. Call me if there's anything," Li Xin didn't think much of it.

"I'll escort Li Xin back," Kathy said. Luo Jin and Kurt quickly left, with Kurt going for surveillance, while Luo Jin headed to the Great Cathedral to discuss with the Chief Bishop, as dealing with such a figure isn't something the Night Patrol can handle alone.
