I Have a Dice Left by a God

Chapter 81: Academics Come First

Luo Xue furrowed her brow; because she appreciated the help received in the past and coupled with the identity of the Secret Castle, she had been indulgent with Li Xin, feeling that he lacked discipline and a sense of responsibility.

But considering his experiences, why demand responsibility and discipline? It's already commendable not to be cynical about the world. Luo Xue had been reconciling with herself these past few days. If it weren't for the pressure of the four-nation competition, she wouldn't even have thought about it. The main issue was the overwhelming pressure.

It was difficult for her and Zhao Qing. Li Xin was an unexpected asset, but how extraordinary he could be, she wasn't very sure. Their last encounter suggested Li Xin's skills weren't bad, more mature than Nan Kai and others. After all, the foundation of the Secret Castle—with the Secret Peeping Eye—is enough for one position. She shouldn't ask for too much; it was her responsibility, not Li Xin's.

Thinking of this, Luo Xue smiled, tucking a playful strand of silver hair behind her ear, "There's some good news, want to hear it?"

Li Xin looked at Luo Xue, filled with anticipation. Could it be about money?

"Karesi, do you remember?" Luo Xue asked.

"Ah?" Li Xin was a bit disappointed. Not about money? What kind of good news is this? He shook his head.

Luo Xue paused, puzzled. What's going on? Karesi said...

"Let's find a time to spar again before the other teams arrive, just to evaluate," Luo Xue said.

When she assigned tasks earlier, she wasn't joking. Li Xin had the potential of the Secret Peeping Eye; however, there were significant differences between Secret Peeping Eye users. How much combat capability was left, and where the main advantages lay—that needed to be clear to her as the president and the captain of this battle, to make targeted arrangements.

"Alright," Li Xin said, "Why is he acting like a different person all of a sudden?"

"Although this four-nation competition is initiated by the Zhao Family, recent developments have caught everyone's attention. Hundred Martial Hall has always wanted to expand its grounds; if not for the Archbishops' promotion, they would have already joined. So, the outcome is crucial for all parties—we can't give others an excuse. Other grievances must be set aside temporarily. It also concerns Governor Luthor's reputation; I cannot lose!" Luo Xue spoke seriously.

"You admire Luthor greatly?"

"Yes, sincerely. He changed this country and gave many ordinary people the opportunity to showcase their abilities. Don't you think it ought to be defended?"

Watching Luo Xue's radiant face, Li Xin sheepishly rubbed his nose... Honestly, he didn't feel the same.

The world was unfriendly to him; refraining from cynicism already seemed like the limit of the compulsory nine-year education.

Everyone must fight, and this assessment is harsher than before. Zhao Qing's tone was increasingly high-pitched, occasionally lashing out, but Li Xin sensed it wasn't just venting—he was probing issues. This matter was significant for the Zhao Family, the Archbishop, and indeed for Old Luo. As the Grand Wind Discipline Officer, achieving such results was partly due to him since he recommended Li Xin.

...Reflecting on this, Li Xin felt somewhat involved.

Since the rest was all about training, Li Xin took leave from Luo Xue and went to the library to read.

Though he agreed verbally, Luo Xue really didn't see Li Xin as the kind of person who loved to read. Yet, he truly spent most of his time in the library. Could there be something wrong with her thinking?

Why would someone from the Secret Castle like reading?

There was quite a crowd in the library. The Hex-Tech atmosphere within the Celestial Capital Canon Law School was indeed much denser compared to others. Various blueprints and some documents were available for public borrowing here, giving Li Xin a slight sense of nostalgia for his original world. He grabbed a big pile of newspapers and a few books seemingly related to Luthor. Most were useless, but even a single useful piece of information was invaluable to him.

As he read, Li Xin yawned continuously. Most newspapers were filled with flattery. It seemed the same everywhere. As he continued reading, he started to get drowsy, and when he opened his eyes again, the sky had turned dark.

Oops, did I miss dinner?

Luckily, no.

Li Xin, having eaten to his fill, returned to his dorm only to find it empty, so he casually strolled back home, feeling like he was a home-loving child.

Seeing Li Xin return, Lin Fei was very pleased and suddenly asked, "You didn't skip class, did you?"

"How could I? Our Black Rose activities are over. I was the first to finish, so the president gave me some time off!" Li Xin replied.

Lin Fei nodded with satisfaction, "I'll cut you some fruit. I remember the Canon Law School sends grades home every semester. As long as you perform well, there'll be a surprise awaiting you!"

A surprise?

Li Xin patted his forehead, what was she on about?

???

Grades sent home?

What nonsense, whose dumb idea was such a rule? Still messing with this when you're in Canon Law School?

Using the name of Black Rose, he had skipped many classes, taking leave left and right. Busy with Night Patrol matters, he hadn't been showing up recently—wouldn't that be reflected?

In the past, Xueyin would have already dashed out like a little bunny at this hour, but now she was engrossed in online classes—a poor kid.

The house was tidied up and well-arranged by Lin Fei. Although the conditions were poor when they lived in the Underground City, once life became stable, Lin Fei would organize the place tidily and decorated. Now, with better conditions, her love for beauty had blossomed. Though not everything purchased was expensive, the layout carried aesthetic appeal, something Li Xin had an eye for.

Of course, the most beautiful was still the lady of the house. Even a simple silk-stitched nightgown looked amazing on her; beauty really had nothing to do with clothes. Aunt Fei's allure was becoming harder to resist.

"Eat up, what're you daydreaming about?"

"Oh," Li Xin dutifully started on the fruit, "Aunt Fei, have we struck it rich, affording all this now?"

There were some fruits Li Xin had seen in the market—ridiculously expensive.

"It's thanks to Kathy. Because she's been visiting frequently, the shopping service business has picked up," Lin Fei explained.

Originally, she just made up a mystery shopper, but what secrets exist in the community? Initially earning a little, jealousy and rumors followed quickly, with gossip about how she might have used her body. But with Kathy's frequent visits, such talk extinguished instantly, turning into praise instead.

Lin Fei lived in the Night Patrol family quarters, while Kathy was a Night Patrol member from a prominent Celestial Capital family. People were eager to curry favor, no longer doing her favors out of charity but genuine help. Often, women cared more about the spectacle and face than money itself.

With business soaring, Lin Fei controlled it—she didn't take assignments for anyone, though nuisances increased. Still, she managed to handle minor issues well. Given her current status and connections, stepping out of line seemed highly unlikely.

"Look at you, eating." Lin Fei reached out to wipe the corner of Li Xin's mouth, "Kathy brought some books and newspapers for you; they're in your room. She says they're your favorites."

Li Xin nodded, noticing Lin Fei's once coarse hands becoming glossy and smooth again. Being young and having a good foundation indeed made the recovery swift with some care. "What am I staring at? Do you find it coarse!"

"Not at all, Aunt Fei is so pretty I don't dare stare!" Li Xin joked while devouring the fruit.

"If only you used your silver tongue on girls, you wouldn't be single now!"

Li Xin was speechless, what's the rush? "I... focus on my studies!"

"Oh, really? Then don't mess around at night..."

"I don't!"

"All right, you don't." Lin Fei's face blossomed with joy, amused seeing Li Xin's speechless expression, suppressing laughter as she saw Li Xin almost erupt, but ended up laughing anyway—her voluptuous, fair body shaking.

"Ahem, Aunt Fei, I'm done. I'll go read!" Li Xin knew he couldn't stay any longer.

Returning to his room, he noticed the Hex-Tech periodicals and a couple of Luthor books Kathy had sent over, determinedly focusing on uncovering the core clues of this world.

After five minutes, Li Xin had already fallen asleep, the newspaper falling to the side.
