Dragon of Catastrophe

Chapter 91: The End

"The fireballs are coming! Everyone, prepare to intercept!"

At that moment, a gentle breeze blew by, and messages echoed into their ears. Everyone snapped to attention, seasoned and alert, ready to face the onslaught.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

The fireballs constantly burst in the sky, turning into a rain of fire falling down.

One, two... five... until a total of forty-three...

A large number of houses were burned down, and many civilians and soldiers were scorched and killed. A rescue operation continued until the afternoon before it was finally over.

It seemed as if nothing had ever changed.

The dark clouds in the sky never receded.

They were like little insects on a sandbox, trapped here, unable to escape, unable to resist their fate, and at the mercy of an invisible, terrifying hand!

The sky remained blue with white clouds, but to everyone, the sun was entirely unseen...

In the basement, the sounds of arguments grew more intense.

On the surface, all soldiers issued the latest orders from the Lord of Ireland City.

All civilians, if they wished to survive, should dig a tunnel and temporarily reside underground!

Many civilians began to do so.

Yet some remained stubborn, staying on the surface, or constantly thinking of escaping this cage.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

It seemed that having discovered the insects on the surface were all hiding underground, the attackers from the sky increased their assaults, bombarding the surface almost daily.

Some Casters found their Magic Power couldn't keep up with the consumption and were forced to hide underground together.

The entire surface was nearly devoid of living people.

Except for a few Guarding the city gates...

The surface was frantically bombarded, and the entire city turned into a sea of fire, with thick smoke billowing towards the heavens.

This time, no one came out to extinguish the fire.

It burned until nightfall, leaving the city in ruins.

But was that the end?

The answer was no!

The bombing continued.

The ground trembled continuously, causing those hiding underground to be terrified, losing sleep every night.

In their dreams, hordes of people would awaken with a start, their spirits deteriorating day by day.

Some became so weakened as a result.

Batch after batch of people couldn't take it anymore, some even began to commit suicide!

Of course, some ran out to the surface, taking the opportunity to flee the cage.

Days quickly passed, and a month went by.

Ten days ago.

No more rumblings came from the surface; everything seemed to have truly passed.

A large number of people returned to the surface.

Presented before them was a city where not a single intact building could be found. All that remained were broken walls and ruins, the ground charred without a patch of green grass.

It looked like a wasteland ravaged by centuries, so unfamiliar that it frightened people.

A gentle breeze swept through, lifting a skyful of dust.

Like a black wind from Hell.

Everyone who saw this couldn't help but burst into tears,

wandering like soulless puppets.

Days passed, and some people regained a bit of sanity, while others remained the same, becoming emaciated with hunger, and some even died.

And the Viscount and others hiding in the basement finally confirmed that the attackers had left.

They showed smiles of relief, with a trace of apprehension, as they returned to the surface.

As they walked toward the city's center, looking at the mess everywhere, the expressionless crowd, their hearts grew colder.

Viscount Ireland knew that his Ireland City was utterly destroyed!

Even though there were still other towns in the Ireland Territory, he no longer had the strength to compare with other Viscounts.

He had become a complete failure, a useless person who exhausted the ancestors' legacy!

He would be eternally nailed to the pillar of shame of his family!

Viscount Ireland seemed to feel the strange gazes of those around him.

With a thud, he collapsed to the ground.

His subordinates did not offer comfort at this time, their mood equally depressed and complex.

In the surrounding hundreds of meters, there were at least fifty or sixty people, yet it was eerily silent.

Only the sound of breathing could be heard.

A gentle breeze blew through, lifting a skyful of dust.

Suddenly.

Bam!

An unusual sound rang out.

Pulling the lost souls back to reality.

It was a piece of iron falling from the sky, crashing to the ground.

This iron piece was so familiar!

So much so that everyone involuntarily shuddered, with some even wetting their pants.

Could it be that the punishment from the heavens isn't over yet?

Their breathing quickened, eyes filled with despair, tension, and a hint of relief.

A few people silently approached the iron slab.

Then, looking at the slab, they recited woodenly:

"Everything began because of the Viscountess."

A plain sentence.

Yet it made everyone's body tremble again, and they unanimously turned their heads, dozens of eyes fixed intensely on the Viscountess.

"Wha…What are you doing? What do your filthy eyes mean? Do you really think it's all my fault? Do you believe what's written on that slab?"

The Viscountess trembled, her scalp tingling.

Feeling as if she were being watched by ghosts.

But still, she forced herself to shout loudly, glaring viciously at everyone.

"Damn Haili Shan! It's all your fault! You've doomed us all!"

"That vile woman! She would often order her men to slaughter young women! Do you think we didn't know? Just because the Viscount glanced a few times!"

"Wicked woman! Give me back my son's life!"

"Kill her! Kill her!"

The mob went insane, roaring as they surged at the Viscountess!

"Mad! Mad! This damn mob is insane! Quick! Quick, stop them!"

The Viscountess screamed.

But she suddenly realized her husband had unknowingly distanced himself by over ten meters! He continued retreating silently, his once gentle eyes now staring at her with a cold, indifferent gaze!

Even her children were like this.

Did they also think everything was her fault?

But what did she do wrong? She didn't know!

Her mind went blank, feeling as though the world was against her, and suddenly, the line named 'reason' in her mind snapped!

She descended into complete madness.

"Wayne! Wayne! Quickly, kill these filthy peasants! Kill them! These damn bastards must die!"

She screamed.

Beside her all along, Grand Mage Wayne swung his staff lightly, a barrage of Magic Missiles shot out, blood splattered everywhere as the villagers screamed tragically. Some even died instantly!

Yet the villagers weren't afraid; they were like soulless zombies.

Still relentlessly surging forward! To grab hold of the Viscountess faster, everyone reached out, constantly clawing.

The madness was hair-raising just to witness!

The commotion quickly attracted other nearby villagers, who rushed at the Viscountess after roughly grasping the situation.

It was like a horde of zombies!

Seeing more people gathering, Grand Mage Wayne, after killing dozens, was somewhat overwhelmed, realizing he couldn't protect the Viscountess, he hurriedly attempted to use an Earth Element spell to bury the Viscountess underground temporarily.

But then, something astonishing happened.

The ground, under his magic power, remained stubbornly hard.

He turned his head indifferently, seeing Nan Jia and the cold face of Viscount Ireland.

And at that moment, the Viscountess was completely submerged by the crowd.

Grand Mage Wayne swiftly cast a Defense Skill onto the two, to resist the crowd's charge.

Bang, bang, bang.

But the crowd's impact was frantic.

Feeling his shaky shield, Grand Mage Wayne erupted in a wave of air, pushing some away, then without a second thought, flew directly into the sky.

Though he was a Great Mage, he couldn't withstand the endless assault from the crowd.

At that moment, the Viscountess's screams constantly emanated from the mob, chilling to the bone.

Grand Mage Wayne landed beside the Viscount, his face ashen, looked at Grand Mage Nan Jia and said solemnly:

"You aren't afraid of the Count holding you accountable for this?"

"Accountable? We haven't done anything, but you, Grand Mage Wayne!

Guardian sent by Haili Shan's father, watching idly as his ward gets killed.

Wonder how our Count will feel when he hears about it?"

Viscount Ireland's expression was icy.

"You! Such a ruthless heart!" Grand Mage Wayne's face was ashen.

"Haili Shan was never bright and always caused trouble from early on. Considering her father's influence, I've always been lenient.

Yet I never imagined this foolish woman would provoke such a force.

She doomed everyone! She's cost me everything!"

Grand Mage Wayne listened, his face twitching, knowing everyone here was nearly insane, and communicating with them was impossible!

He took a deep breath and said no more.

He made up his mind to wait a few days until nightfall, return to his estate, take everything of value, then leave this trouble-ridden land far behind…

No matter the conflict between Viscount Ireland and the Count thereafter, it wouldn't concern him.

Two hours later.

The furious mob finally calmed down.

The former Viscountess Haili Shan had turned into a pile of mangled flesh and bone...
