Silas exhaled slowly. It all finally started to make some sense to him; it felt simple, it felt real to him.
A new system panel appeared in front of his eyes.
[Movement Reading – Early Perception (Basic) Acquired]
• [Sense of Sound — Hearing Beyond Noise]
Chiron picked up a stone that was lying in front of his eyes, tapped it lightly against the other stone.
The echo of it spread across the air softly.
"Most warriors only hear the sound," Chiron said, putting the stone back from where he had picked it. "A true warrior hears the information behind that sound."
He tapped the rock again. "Sound tells you distance, direction, weight and the fear."
He closed his eyes, listening to the echo as if it spoke back to him. "Even a heartbeat of an animal can lie to you," Chiron said. "But the breath of it never does."
Silas felt a small shiver run down his spine. Another notification appeared in front of his eyes.
[Honed Hearing – Combat Listening (Basic) Acquired]
Chiron lowered his hand slowly, voice came softly. "For today," he said. "This is enough, the six senses cannot be learned by just watching me. They must be sharpened in real danger."
Silas nodded slowly; his eyes were locked onto the screen. "Yes, I understand."
"That's a good sign," Chiron replied.
The screen in front of him, which was showing the reflection of Chiron, suddenly vanished into the thin air, dissolving into the particles of blue light.
Silas was left in his messy apartment room once again.
Right after the session today ended, a new notification floated in the air.
[No assignments for Chiron's class.]
Silas blinked a few times, confused. "Huh? No assignments for today? You for real?" A small bright smile curled up on Silas's lips as he fell on the floor. "Let's goooo, I can finally rest."
[Host, let me recall you. You still have to complete the assignment which Archangel Michael gave you."]
[And Yes, Host. There'll be no assignments for the sessions of Chiron.]
[You will improve your Six Senses inside real dungeons. By fighting stronger opponents. That is how this art grows.]
Silas just gave a small nod in agreement.
"Alright, I understand what you mean. The thing you're saying definitely makes sense. How can I even learn the senses from doing regular tasks?" Silas pushed himself up, sitting.
He scratched his chin, looked around his messy room and let out a sigh.
"Well… let's fix this dump before I trip and die."
He pushed himself back on his two feet, leaning forward slightly as he picked up a pile of clothes.
He looked at the wardrobe. "Hmm, this thing should not be here. Let's adjust it to the side."
Silas made his way towards the wardrobe, and when he grabbed it, his legs were naturally lowered into a squat as he grabbed the wardrobe to shift it to his desired spot.
[DING!]
[Sit-Ups: 0 → 3]
Silas suddenly froze, stared at the screen which was hovering in front of his eyes. Then looked down at his legs.
A small smirk curled up on his face, as if a menacing idea had just crossed his mind. "So the weighted squats count more than the normal ones, huh?"
He let the wardrobe go; it made an impact with the ground with a loud thud. Silas cracked his knuckles once.
"Alright, let's get this assignment done." He didn't waste any other second after that.
He tied the heavy items next to his hands and ankles. Then he began to squat, and he lifted the wardrobe.
He braced himself against the walls and moved. He didn't think twice about what he was doing; he didn't care even if he was looking like a clown doing all of this.
The notifications about the assignment started to come at a rapid speed.
[Sit-Ups: 200 → 800 → 1000 → Complete]
Silas then wiped the bead of sweat from his forehead with the help of the back of his hand, and a small groan escaped his mouth.
"Two more of the tasks to go, ugh." He dropped down on the ground, took the position of push-ups.
His arms burned with pain, limbs trembled. Chest felt tight, and even breathing was hurting him now. Sweat slowly dropped onto the floor with every movement he made.
But he still kept going for more.
[Push-Ups: 300 → 700 → 1000 → Complete]
"Holy shit…" he muttered under his breath, wiping the sweat off his face, a small menacing smile curled up on his lips. "That fucking hurt, but I want more. I want strength."
He stood, wobbling slightly. The air inside his apartment had started to feel thick with the heat of his sweat.
He tied some extra weight around his wrist, then finally picked up his sword and began the rest of the training.
He didn't need to show it off to anyone; he just took ragged breaths and moved.
He didn't need to show off.
His arms were cutting through the air again and again. After a little while, the system chimed in his ears.
[Sword Strikes: 1000 → Complete]
[Sword Swings: 1000 → Complete]
[Sword Slashes: 1000 → Complete]
[Sword Thrusts: 1000 → Complete]
By the end of it, Silas was completely drenched with sweat, T-shirt was sticking to his back. His hair was stuck to his forehead, chest was rising and falling as he had just finished running a marathon.
He sat down in the bed, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees to give support.
"System," he said, his voice felt a bit tiring. "Let's just do the rest tomorrow. I'm done for today."
[Understood, Host.]
[You have trained enough. It has been a tiring day. You deserve rest.]
A small tiring chuckle left from Silas's mouth. "Wow… you're being awfully nice today, blue screen."
He then lay back on the bed, head resting on top of a pillow, eyes half-closed, breathing was still a bit ragged.
It didn't take even a minute for the sleep to catch up to him.
