Chapter - 38

"Wake up, you Sleeping Beauty," Leo whispered.

For a second, nothing happened.

"Umm…" But then Seraphine moved slightly, and her eyelashes twitched as she let out a soft sleepy breath.

She slowly pushed herself into a sitting position, stretching her body.

Then she finally opened her eyes, looking a bit foggy and lost.

In confusion she looked at the blanket in front of him, and then raised her gaze to look up, and looked at the smiling face of Leo, staring at her.

And the fogginess in her eyes instantly cleared. The expression on her face changed instantly from Confusion to surprise to concern.

"Leo!"

She snapped upright so fast the chair nearly flipped. Her hands flew toward him but stopped halfway, trembling, unsure where to touch, terrified to hurt him.

"You are awake! Thank dear gods! You are actually awake!" Her voice was full of relief.

"How do you feel? What about the wound in your palm? Are you in pain? Is the poison acting up? Do you feel nauseated? Tell me!"

And then she suddenly went on rambling, frantically, completely opposite to her cool, calm and noble behaviour.

Leo felt amused at her reaction. He was exhausted, hungry, sore, tired and horny. But the worried look on her face filled him with that indescribable feeling of love.

So he reached out with his right hand and caught her wrist.

"Leo!?"

Before she could understand anything, he pulled her towards himself. His grip wasn't rough, but it was just too sudden.

This made Lady Seraphine lose her balance instantly.

She fell forward, her body landing against his chest. Her hand caught the mattress, while her other hand was on his chest, caging him in without meaning to. Her hair brushed his face.

Leo smirked, "I am fine, my Lady!"

"And the poison has been neutralised."

Leo said, leaning closer to Lady Seraphine's ear, "I am still breathing, thanks to you."

"Hmm…" Lady Seraphine barely managed to nod. The closeness caught up with her, and her cheeks flushed pink. She could feel his breath on her neck.

"This… This is good…" She tried to pull away from Leo. She was a noble woman. She shouldn't get close to any man. Right now she was practically in bed with Leo.

"I… I apologize for my unladylike behaviour, Mr Leo," she murmured, "I was just… I was only worried. The High Priest said the poison was lethal. He did not know what the poison was."

"He said you wouldn't make it through the night." She spoke, avoiding his gaze.

"That old fart is a fraud," Leo muttered, "I knew it when I saw that child predating face."

"Hehe…" Seraphine let out a soft chuckle. It was of relief, "You did," she whispered, "You really did."

But then her expression changed further. The smile was replaced by serious gratitude.

"You saved me last night, My Leo," she said, voice low and filled with gratitude.

"You stood between me and those assassins. You took a sword through your arm that was supposed to kill me."

"And…" Her face twisted, as she clutched the sheet tightly in her fists.

"And my husband… that pathetic coward…" Her voice trembled with rage. "He ran away. I saw him run away, being dragged away by his guards like a screaming child while you…"

"A complete stranger… Someone I have known for only a few days fought seven armed killers all alone, on your own."

"You bled for me!"

Leo didn't interrupt her. He let her speak. He could feel her words were from her heart.

"I curse the day I married into this house," she hissed. "I curse his coward's blood. His name."

Her grip tightened.

But while Lady Seraphine was venting her out in front of Leo, his brain was fading. Her sweet smell was stirring up the Draconic Bloodline in him. The hunger to hold her, pull her into his embrace, pin her down and claim her was growing with every breath he took.

Lady Seraphine would have noticed it if she had looked down.

"First you saved my daughter," Lady Seraphine broke his chain of thoughts, "I still haven't repaid you for that."

"And now I owe my life to you as well," She said.

"No amount of gold, promises and gratitude could ever repay that."

Leo watched her for a second, then let a lazy smirk creep across his face.

"Actually," he murmured, thumb brushing the back of her hand, "Your math's a bit off, my Lady."

She blinked, "What?"

"You only owe me for saving your life, my Lady." His tone was casual, somewhat cocky, "You have already paid me back for saving that bitc… I mean your daughter's life."

"Already repaid? How?" she demanded, confused.

Leo smirked, lifting his free hand, tapping his bottom lip with one finger.

"Did you already forget?" he asked, "Pretty sure you shoved your tongue halfway down my throat."

'This rogue,' she thought as her cheeks flushed instantly with embarrassment

In the hall, she had been desperate to save him.

Leo stared, his voice dropping low, teasing, "Not gonna lie," he murmured, leaning slightly forward, "For a dying guy, that was one hell of a way to kick the bucket."

"Oh God!" Seraphine covered her mouth, "I… I wasn't thinking… I just… There was no water… And I didn't want you to die… It was…"

Leo grinned, absolutely enjoying this.

"It was very heroic," he said, deliberately slow, savouring every word. "And in front of a big audience. I am already hearing the gossips spreading like wildfire."

"Don't tell me you are hiding in here, not wanting to be confronted by the other nobles?"

She shook her head.

"I could not face them," she sighed, "Not after… behaving like that in front of everyone. I had the guards bar the door. No one comes in but the maids. I don't want to hear the whispers right now."

Leo showed a sheepish grin, looking all cocky, "Well. I am not complaining."

And he meant it.

Back on Earth? The closest he ever got to a moment like this was pausing a porn while the girl rode the cock scene and imagining the girl actually noticing him. He never had a real woman, definitely not a real noble woman kiss him and act flustered after that.

"But tell me something, my Lady," he said quietly, "When you were saving my life, when your lips were on mine…"

Leo's smirk widened.

Seraphine slowly lowered her hand. Her breathing wasn't steady anymore. Her eyes flicked to his mouth, then back up. It was like she was fighting her own damn instincts.

"I… I was terrified," she whispered, "I thought I was losing you. I just acted on my instincts."

Leo raised one eyebrow, "So you really felt nothing."

Leo raised his hand, wanting to hold her cheeks in her palms. But when Seraphine saw it, he stood up with a jolt, pulling her hand from his grip.

His touch. There was something about his touch that made her feel strange.

"I… I should go now, Mr Leo," she breathed. "You need rest. And the Lord, my husband. He will be waiting for me."

She turned to leave, but Leo was quick to lunge, ignoring the pain in his ribs and grabbed her by her hand, and pulled her back.

"Eehhh!" She gasped in surprise as her heel caught the floor.

Lady Seraphine lost her balance and fell straight onto him.

Her body hit his chest, knocking a sharp breath out of both of them. But the warmth of her body, the soft fabric of her gown, the faint smell of lavender and the softness of her big breasts against his chest. Leo felt every bit of it.

For a moment, no one moved.

Her hands rested against his chest, her face inches from his. Her breath was shaky, and Leo could feel her heartbeat against his chest.

Leo tightened his grip on her wrist, just enough to make it clear she wouldn't walk away.

"You are not going to him," he muttered in a low and rough voice, "Not yet."

Her lips parted like she wanted to argue, but nothing came out.

Leo's fingers slid from her wrist to her lower back, holding her in place. His other hand came up slowly and gently. He caressed his thumb along her jaw, making her look at him.

Lady Seraphine breathing became ragged, like she had just ran a mile.

Leo leaned in just enough that his lips brushed against her ear, "Tell me you didn't think about it," he whispered.

"Last night. After you kissed me in front of everyone." He asked, "Did you not think about it again?"

"That was… medical," she hesitated, "It was to save your life."

"That's not what I asked." Leo asked, pulling her closer into him.

Leo's hand slid up her spine just a little, fingers tracing a path from her perfectly round ass and moving up over the thin fabric of her dress.

"You kissed me again in your head, didn't you?" he said quietly, leaning close enough his breath hit her ear. "You replayed it."

Her eyes flicked up to his lips.

Leo didn't wait.

He pulled back, tilted his head and finally closed the distance.

Lady Seraphine's body stiffened for a second. She did not expect Leo to be so straightforward. But when her thoughts got clear,s he tried to pull away. She pressed his hands against his chest, but his grip around her tightened and he pulled her into him even more.

Leo's lips moved against hers, tasting her, claiming her lips as his.

"Uhmmm," A soft moan escaped, between the kiss. Her lips parted.

And Leo used the opportunity to push his tongue between her lips. He teased her first, but then pushed in deeper.

Finally Lady Seraphine responded. She was hesitant at first. Her fingers curled into his shirt, gripping it tight as if holding onto control she was already losing.

Their tongues moved slowly and exploring each other, like they were learning each other's pace.

A soft chime echoed in the back of his mind.
