Transmigrated as the Devil of the Meaningless

Chapter 54: Seeking the Coven's Help

There was a scent of supernatural pollution in the air!

Seth froze the moment he recognized it.

Having just been in a demonic den filled with filth and madness, Seth recognized it immediately.

This was the scent of supernatural corruption, similar to what had permeated the underground warehouse.

It was a lot weaker here, but it felt like the same kind of pollution.

He immediately activated [Null Presence], his body dimming into a quiet, unnoticed state as he moved down the hallway.

Step by step, he followed the faint pull of corruption until he reached Phoebe's room.

As he pushed the door open slowly, his eyes scanned the room.

The sight inside confirmed his fears.

Remielyn, Phoebe's mother, lay on the bed, her face pale and waxy, her breathing shallow.

In the corner, Phoebe's younger sister, Fate, was curled into a tight ball under a pile of four blankets, shivering violently despite the layers.

'Their sickness isn't ordinary... and it's worsening quite fast.'

Before he could take another step, a notification suddenly flickered in front of him.

[Sin of Filth, Third Circle Ability.]

[Puppet of Disease: Transform a person's spirit into a puppet of disease, capable of spreading supernatural illnesses without their knowledge. If the puppet dies, all diseases they have inflicted will be withdrawn.]

Seeing this, Seth frowned.

He immediately linked this matter to Fredero Tangen and his family.

He glanced at Phoebe, who was sleeping soundly on the other side of the mattress, and quickly woke her up.

Phoebe groggily woke up.

"Why are you..."

She said, about to question him.

Seth spoke up before she could finish.

"Your mother and sister are inflicted with something supernatural... their sickness does not seem to be ordinary."

As she heard this, the grogginess in Phoebe's mind immediately subsided.

"What's the matter? Did you notice something?"

"Perhaps due to the experience of the demonic den below Fredero Tangen's warehouse, I'm a bit familiar with the energy of the Sin of Filth," Seth said.

"Your mother and sister are definitely inflicted with its power."

He continued immediately.

"We have to take them to a local coven..."

Phoebe hesitated.

She was quite scared of being caught as a stray witch.

She truly did not know if the covens had some peculiar way of identifying if a person was a witch or not.

However, she knew there was not much she could do...

She trusted Seth's judgement, as she also felt that their sickness was peculiar.

At first, she had dismissed it as a viral fever, but as it gradually got worse over a short time span, she had suggested heading to the hospital.

Her mother rejected the idea because hospital expenses were high, but Phoebe had managed to convince her that if they did not feel slightly better by morning, they would have to go.

Now, hearing Seth inform her in the middle of the night that their sickness was not ordinary, Phoebe was immediately alarmed.

At this point, she did not care if a coven truly got involved!

Seeing Phoebe's reluctant agreement, Seth spoke up.

"Can you carry your sister outside? I'll carry your mother, and then we'll find a pedicab that can help."

The two immediately rushed into action.

Seth found two pedicab drivers waiting on the nearby street.

He quickly explained the situation— that they had two very sick people who needed to get to the Covenant of Solace, not the hospital, implying it was a matter of a supernatural curse.

The moment the drivers heard "curse" and "coven," their faces filled with superstitious fear.

Both men shook their heads, made excuses, and pedaled away rapidly, wanting no part of anything involving witchcraft.

Luckily, there was another pedicab driver who lived near their area and was familiar with Phoebe's family.

He was just returning home for the night.

This time, Seth did not explain the details, and the driver, seeing the genuine distress on Phoebe's face and the state of her family, did not ask.

His expression held deep worry as a neighbor.

Though skeptical of the matter involving the covens, he did not voice his thoughts.

He simply helped them carefully settle Remielyn and Fate into his cab and began to pedal toward the part of the city where the coven resided.

...

Arriving at the Coven of Solace's building, the familiar, unnatural chill seeped into Seth's body.

The atmosphere itself felt odd and cold, a stark contrast to the warmth of the pedicab.

Without wasting a second, Phoebe and Seth rushed to the heavy door and began knocking urgently.

"Please! We need help!"

Phoebe called out, her voice trembling with fear and exhaustion.

The door swung open much quicker than they expected.

A young man with unruly black hair and a sharp, cold glint in his eyes stood in the doorway, his posture radiating impatience.

"What is it?"

He asked, his voice flat, already looking past them as if assessing a minor nuisance.

Phoebe and Seth immediately bowed their heads in a gesture of deep respect.

"Esteemed witch, sir..."

Seth said, taking the lead.

He did not want Phoebe to be the one speaking up as he knew of how clumsy the woman could be.

He formulated a story in his head, one that sounded desperate but believable.

"We plead for your help. They have been afflicted... cursed, we think. By something malicious like an evil spirit! We don't know how to cure them!"

"Cursed by evil spirits?"

The young man repeated, his frown deepening.

He mentally labelled them as another pair of superstitious country bumpkins.

He had dealt with this countless times—terrified commoners dragging a sick relative to their door, claiming it was witchcraft, when in reality they just had a bad flu and wanted to avoid the expensive hospital fees.

It was a waste of the coven's resources.

He was about to dismiss them.

But then his gaze shifted past them to the two figures in the pedicab.

He saw the woman's unnatural pallor and the child shivering violently under a heap of blankets.

His senses noted the symptoms were severe and progressed too quickly for a normal fever.

A faint, foul scent reached him as his nose twitched.

His cold expression shifted from annoyance to contemplation.

"Bring them inside."

He paused.

"After that, wait outside."
