Jimmy was confused when he heard this stranger calling his name. He was especially frustrated, and amped up for revenge when he saw Anna laying flat on the ground. She seemed lifeless, dead, so for a moment, his heart skipped a beat!
He plotted to punch this man straight across the face, and rip his throat out, but Zik stopped him. Suspecting the worst, he held Jimmy off, just for a moment, and kept yelling a name that started to ring a bell after he yelled it for the third time.
"Jimmy! That's Gaark!" He shouted. "It's your brother, Jimmy!"
Zik then saw the two cannibals that were rushing towards them. He saw the spears in their hands, and sprung into action without thinking about it twice.
He didn't have a spear to toss, and in this case, a spear wouldn't even be enough. Instead, he grabbed on what cavemen had relied on in ancient-er times; Rocks.
Bearing Dinosaur Strength, he grabbed a heavy rock, and tossed it against the cannibals. He hit one of them, flattened them down to the ground quite easily, but the second one dodged it.
The second cannibal was about to throw his spear, and Zik didn't have time to grab another rock, so he felt like a live target at this point. He was defenseless, and fully expected that he was gonna get a spear to the chest!
To his surprise, the cannibal froze in place, and then dropped dead a second later. He never got the chance to toss that spear.
Jimmy then called for Zik's attention, and said. "Stand on the lookout. More might be coming."
"Well, darn kind." Zik said. "Whatever you say."
Jimmy was on his knees, an inch away from Anna, and he had tapped into her heartbeat already. He killed that cannibal by blowing his heart up, and that was when he realized it took little effort to explode human hearts. Either his magic evolved today more than he anticipated, or blowing up hearts had been an easy thing to do a long time ago. He just never resulted to it, on account that he was usually far away from his enemies, or his targets.
Anyway, Jimmy scanned Anna's heart, and found great relief when he realized that she was alive! Her heart was beating, and she was mostly healthy.
"She pushed a rock, and fell asleep, Jimmy." Gaark said.
Jimmy wasn't in the headspace to talk to his brother right now. For one thing, he thought that his brother was dead up until this point, so he couldn't quite process seeing him, and hearing his voice. He was mainly focused on Anna too, so he ignored his brother, and put in some quick efforts to heal her.
After figuring out where she was hurt, he started pouring great amounts of mana into her, and healed her in seconds! She woke up, and she woke up just on time, because Bonita was going crazy.
Bonita was walking around the group like an angered general, and waved her large beak around to keep an eye on Anna. At first, she didn't know if her master was alive or dead, and if Jimmy had kept her waiting any longer, Bonita might have taken matters into her own claws, and started rampaging. It wouldn't have helped, but she didn't know what else to do.
"Jimmy…" Anna sighed, after she woke up. "You made it."
"I had no choice," He sighed in relief, and tried to make her feel better. "Bonita almost swallowed me whole to bring me here."
"Hehe," She chuckled, "If it makes you feel any better, I taught her how to find you by pointing at a yellow plant. I'm surprised she understood what I meant."
"No, the both of you did a good job," He said, and he would agree with anything she said at this point, "My head does look bushy in the morning. You were spot on."
Jimmy then helped Anna stand up, and then he hugged her tight. The amount of relief he was feeling right now was nearly incomprehensible! He was over the moon!
Afterwards, they looked at his brother. The silence between the group was strong, and nearly deafening.
Gaark could feel that something was wrong, and in his finite wisdom, he chuckled, and exclaimed, "Haha! Plant Head!"
Jimmy chuckled along, but then he turned to Anna, and asked, "What's wrong with him?"
"Oh, he has lived with cannibals for five years, so…" She added. "Brain damage, I'm guessing."
There was a lot to comprehend right now. Jimmy flew down to this scene cold, so of course he barely understood what was going on. He needed to be briefed later on, but for now, there were other matters to attend to.
First, he said, "It's nice to see you, brother. We're gonna take you home, and I promise you, I'm gonna fix your head."
"Thank you…" Gaark grabbed Jimmy by the shoulder, weighing him down. "I've been going insane down here. These weirdos eat people, did you know that!"
"Yes," He nodded, "But Anna killed them all. We're okay now."
Jimmy tried to help his brother calm down, because other than that, he couldn't help him right now. Gaark may seem dumb, or borderline insane, but still, the human mind was very complicated in any era, far more complicated than the brains of the average dinosaurs that he was used to tampering with. He would need a lot of time to fix his brother's brain, and so he couldn't afford to rush the process.
One mistake, and he might just kill his brother. He couldn't risk that.
Seconds later, Zik called for their attention, "Are you sure that you killed all of them? I can see some people running around down there, near all those embers."
Anna walked over, and after she had a better look, she said, "Oh, those are children. I doubt they're gonna try to fight us, so let's just leave them be."
"You want to leave kids to fend for themselves?" Zik raised his eyebrows, concerned. "That's cruel. They won't live long enough to see tomorrow!"
"They're cannibals," Anna reminded him, "What do you wanna do? Bring them home? They're messed up."
Anna made sense, or perhaps, she was still blind sided by her rage. Every time she heard Bonita chirping happily, she was reminded of her desperate yelps of pain less than two hours ago. With that said, she did not care about the children of her enemies, she didn't care to save them, and thankfully, she didn't care enough to go down there and kill them either. She just wanted to get out of here.
Zik, however, was hard headed, so he insisted, "Jimmy, if you can fix Gaark's head, you can fix those kids too. I can tell you for sure that there are a lot of widowed mothers back home who would love to take them in. Please, we shouldn't punish kids for what their fathers did!"
"Alright, I'll have a look." He agreed. "But I gotta try and fix their brains now, because otherwise they might be too violent to take home. The thing is, fixing human brains is a tough job, so if I accidentally kill them today, that's on you."
"I'm willing to take that risk," Zik nodded. "I trust you, you can heal them, but please, we can't leave them here by themselves."
