Jimmy didn't answer when he was spoken to. He healed the dinosaur's foot in mere seconds, and after that point, he was in a deep trance.
The trance shouldn't be confused with meditation, where the unconscious mind was given freedom to unravel, because in this case, it was the opposite. He was in a deep trance, but he was conscious, he was focused, but all of his attention poured towards the Allosaurus Fragilis.
Its heartbeat sung in his ears. It was rapid, truly the heart of a predator, but he comprehended every single beat, as if he had heard it his entire life.
Jimmy could not understand why he was suddenly connected with this dinosaur. He didn't know how he healed it, he just knew that he did.
Yesterday, when he healed Anna, he needed to rely on her sexual intent, even if faint, in order to connect with her, and heal her. This was not the case with the Allosaurus Fragilis in front of him. He did not feel sexual desires when he looked at it. He just connected with its heartbeat, after the same heartbeat almost blew his eardrums out.
"Talk to me, big boy…" He mumbled, as Anna kept pulling him away.
Anna could keep him in check. She used her strength to keep him away from the dinosaur, and this was the best thing that she could do right now.
Regardless of this interference, the dinosaur did in fact talk to him. It communicated with its mouth closed, inflating the tissue in its throat to create sound.
The sounds it made sounded like the croaking of a frog, except it was explosive. It was a booming sound, fitting the beast who produced it.
These booming sounds were almost like chirps. That is, they had the same duration as a chirp, and perhaps a fraction of the same melody, except the chirp was deep, intentive, and demanding respect.
Jimmy understood every chirp while he was in this deep trance. Somehow, he knew.
The Allosaurus Fragilis then unravelled a series of these deep chirps, to the point where they sounded like a heavy, automatic weapon being fired! Its mood changed, and then it started heading towards the group, albeit slowly.
This put the girls at high alert. Nechi was even getting ready to attack, but the huge dinosaur noticed their reactions, it was aware that its size was intimidating them, and so it stopped walking. Quite consciously, it took a step back, which was very uncommon, and uncomfortable for its body.
Afterwards, the dinosaur started crouching, and eventually sat, as comfortably as a dinosaur with five-meter long legs could sit. This shocked the girls.
Nechi even stopped herself from attacking. She had some experience in hunting, and she had never seen an Allosaurus Fragilis, or any dinosaur for the matter, behave like this. She was stunned.
"What the heck did you do to it, Jimmy?" She called out. "It's showing me its belly."
Anna, being just as shocked when she saw the perfectly healthy dinosaur drop down, temporarily lost her focus. This was when Jimmy managed to slip from her grip.
"Good boy…" He exclaimed, as he ran towards the dinosaur. "I'm coming, boy!"
The Allosaurus Fragilis' heartbeat continued to ring in his ear, but now, it was a soft melody, despite its average, rapid beat. He had stopped analyzing its beats, and just pushed the melody into the background.
This was when he started snapping back to reality. He wasn't distracted anymore, and every chirp from the dinosaur started to sound less and less comprehensive.
Nevertheless, Jimmy ran past Nechi, right towards the dinosaur, and started rubbing its belly. The Allosaurus Fragilis lightly kicked its leg in the air, much like an overwhelmed dog, who experienced the love of a human for the first time. Gentle booms sounded out of its mouth, hinting that it was having a good time.
Nechi and Anna watched him, but they were too scared to approach. They didn't exactly understand what was happening here.
Come to think of it, Jimmy didn't know either. As he slowly became more present in the world around him, he realized that he was petting a huge, apex predator, and at this point, he couldn't understand its chirps and groans anymore.
"What the fuck am I doing?" He whispered. "I thought that was a dream or some shit?"
The Allosaurus Fragilis wasn't attacking him, however, so he had a bit of time to figure out what was going on, as he desperately rubbed its reptilian belly. He was freaking out.
He thought, 'I remember hearing his heartbeat, his voice too, but, is he supposed to be this… cooperative?'
Desperately looking for clues, he tried to retrace his steps, and started listening to the Allosaurus Fragilis' heart more attentively. He wanted to figure out if he was going to die or not, because he guessed that the beast in front of him could switch its mood at random, and then eat him whole.
"One… thirteen, twenty… beats?" He mumbled, as he studied its heart. "Even his blood sounds violent, yet, he isn't?"
Jimmy didn't know how he connected with the dinosaur. He was clueless about that matter even when he snapped into that trance-like state earlier, and he was especially clueless now.
"Talk to me, boy…" He prompted the beast for an answer, quite nervously. "What's making you show me your soft belly?"
"Rrrggreeegrrr…" The Allosaurus Fragilis chirped.
It tried to communicate, this was obvious, but they couldn't understand each other anymore. Much like a romance novel, excluding the romance, they communicated through heartbeats, but it wasn't enough.
"Up, boy. Get up." He spoke to it, hoping that the beast would understand, but this didn't work. "Come on…"
Afterwards, he stopped rubbing its belly, slapped it gently a couple of times, and said, "Come on, get up."
The dinosaur didn't respond immediately, but when it noticed that Jimmy wasn't rubbing its belly anymore, it then slowly stood up. Despite the misconceptions of dinosaurs being stupid, or having pea-sized brains, this beautiful brown beast was as considerate as it was dangerous.
It managed its large mass carefully, as to not crush Jimmy, or scare his friends away. It did its best to cooperate, which not only was enough to pass the 'sentient' benchmark at this point, but it was also up-to-par with limited consciousness! Coming from an apex predator, its behaviour was all the more impressive.
Once the beast stood up, it lowered its head closer towards the ground, towards Jimmy. It then tilted its head to the right a little bit, trying to make the best use out of its binocular vision, in order to stare at Jimmy.
Its large head would make most humans shit themselves at such a close distance. The beast's face was like a narrow wedge of scaled muscle. Above its cold, reptilian eyes sat a sharp, bony crest, like a pair of short, mean horns that gave it a permanently scowling look, fit for a predator. A thin ridge of bone ran right down the center of its snout, and he could hear a low volume growl sounding out of its snout. It was subtle, but it was there.
Then, it chirped, softly. It continued to try and communicate.
